Devil's Nest | Monday Night

Another weekend, another subsequent Monday where Annie was at work with her hood up.

She was keeping her head down, practicing making martinis (with the added benefit of being able to drink them, duh, she really needed that after this weekend) and avoiding Tiny.

Which worked for awhile until Tiny started whistling. And since he'd never done that before, Annie couldn't help but feel that it was obviously pointed, and that he had somehow heard about the weekend.

So, she'd be over here, hiding on a barstool, nursing a not-half-bad martini and avoiding her fellow bartender, who was just being mean.

"Was this like an interdimensional Britney in Vegas kind of thing?" Annie guessed, still trying to reconcile the idea of Summer being married like, even for a second. "That's wild; I didn't know I was friends with a divorcee."

"Maybe a little less Britney in Vegas," Summer said, after a moment of thinking about it, "and more it was the Apocalypse and I was definitely going through some shit...

"...and god. Hearing someone else say divorcee makes me feel like I need to start chain smoking, wearing robes all day, and get at least three more cats..."

"The apocalypse, huh?" Annie asked, lifting a brow. Well, that was useful, and she'd just be filing you away as someone who knew shit about the apocalypse, Summer, but for right now your marriage was way more pressing. "It is a very Cathy comic kind of term, divorcee is. There's got to be something better. But that's - huh. I would not have figured you for the marrying type, even! Like, I know a couple of girls my age who are married, but they're...."

Annie rolled her eyes a little self-consciously, trying to decide how to describe what she meant. "Religious," she finally landed on.

Yeaaah, that was exactly the sort of word Summer figured Annie was going to land on, more or less, and her nose wrinkled a little.

"It was very heat-of-the-moment impulsive," she offered, since, you know, that? Definitely tracked with her, she felt. "And, besides, I mean, it was the Apocalypse, it was pretty slim-pickings, and when you find a good top quality piece of meat, you really had to snatch that shit up before someone else did..."

Did she just compare her ex to a piece of meat?

Yes, yes she did.

She did not think he would object to that comparrison, either.

"You don't have, like, apocalypse children?" Annie checked, only half-teasing. Because you know, phrasing it like that did make it sound like, you know, survival-based.

"I did have one show up for one of those alternate universe kid weekends," Summer offered. "That was my first one, actually, so that was...interesting. But, yeah, no, the world ended in a giant irradiated mess, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't enough for me to get pregnant and pop out kids in the month we were together. Hem came from a dimension where I actually stayed..."
