With Three Minute Dates coming up, Kitty was trying out some recipes she'd found, thinking maybe she could have them after event this time around.

Which also had her googling whether there was a drink name of something like "Let's just be friends," because she knew how 3MD usually went.

Rosa came in that evening looking a little worn down, especially in the way she slumped into her usual seat, but she was definitely not so tired that she couldn't give the specials board a discerning glower entirely with her creased brow.

"Are either of those drinks I can drink without wanting to punch myself for it?" she wondered.

"One's vodka in a milkshake cocktail, the other is fruit juices and liquer with chocolate sprinkles." So, maybe? The chocolate might help?

Rosa, at least, considered those options before making a face. "I think I'll stick with whiskey," she decided.

"I can do that," Kitty said, getting a glass. "So how're you?"

What with the worn down look.

And the withering look that joined it in response to the question really complete the set, too. "This new case I picked up is a real ball-buster," she murmured, shaking her head, almost even sighing. "I thought it would be just a real quick open-and-shut and now I'm wondering I'll be treading water on it until spring break..."

"Can you say what the case is?" Kitty wondered, pouring and sliding the drink over.

Rosa caught the drink with a nod, lifting it in a toast if appreciation and having a sip before she answered.

"Officially," she said, "it's Missing Person, but all signs point to cold hard murder. No body, just a room full of blood and unanswered questions. Local authorities seem to have their hands tied, so that lead them to me. You know what they say. There's more than one way to pluck a chicken."

And with that statement, Rosa took another sip of that whiskey.

"Wow. That's definitely different than what Fandom sees," Kitty said, frowning.

And Rosa was quiet, ruminating for a moment into the glass of whiskey before finishing it off and setting it down for another.

"This may be a long shot in the dark," she said, "but tell me something, Kitty. Does the word 'toototabon' ring any bells for you?"

"Absolutely nothing," Kitty answered. "Why?"

"That's my biggest question mark," Rosa explained. "The unfounded key to unlock it all. Is it a name? A place? Some eldridch horror awaiting to be summoned from the water deep?"

It was a chicken. Toototabon was a chicken. Rosa was going to be pissed when she found out.

But for now? She just shrugged coolly.

"I don't know. But I'd better find out before next Saturday."

"What's next Saturday?"

Please let it not be eldritch horror-related.

"The last day before spring break," Rosa said. "I haven't missed a school trip yet; I'm definitely not going to start now."

She could always foist it onto Jones if she had to. What was the point I'm having an Ass. if you didn't foist stuff onto them? But, at this point, solving it by a deadline was now just a matter of pride.

"Oh. I thought that's when the killer was going to strike again or something," Kitty admitted.

Blame true crime culture for why it was almost a letdown.

"Oh, no," Rosa assured her. "This definitely has one-time crime of passion written all over it, not serial killer."

She hoped. Serial killers took up soooo much time.

"Okay when you put it that way it definitely makes me feel better," Kitty admitted. "I'm sure you can solve a murder by spring break."

Hearing it like that just made Rosa shake her head. "God. I'm getting rusty...

"Anyway, enough about murder, how have you been?"

[throughaphase]

"Completely boring in comparison. Getting ready for Three Minute Dates and spring break," Kitty shrugged.

"I might actually have to skip it this time around," Rosa realized, and she even sounded a little disappointed about that. "Which means you'll just have to fill me in if anything really good happens. Someone storms off, a drink thrown in a face, maybe a table turned over..."

Because all of those definitely happened all the time.

A girl could dream, okay?

"I really wouldn't mind that kind of show," Kitty admitted. "I haven't seen anyone end up in the lake for a while."

"I'd offer to help with that," Rosa informed her, "but, you know. It's February."

"I know. But."

She wanted to see it happen sometime! Maybe when it wouldn't be actively dangerous!
