There was a low, droning sound coming from somewhere in the shop that day. It started out inconspicuous enough, barely noticeable, until it would slowly crescendo in volume until it couldn't be ignored. At first, Tisarwat thought maybe it was some sort of weird electronical feedback happening with her dormant implant--it wouldn't be the first time it had happened, and that seemed to fit with the way it seemed to just surge and piece into her brain, but then it would subside and there was no lingering pain or effect. That also ruled out it being the spot where her Anaander implant had been, too. And that meant that it was likely something in the store causing this weird rising and falling, almost pulsing sort of sound.

However, needless to say and probably surprising no one, try as she may, Tisarwat could not actually locate where it might be coming from. Whenever she felt she might be getting close, it suddenly seemed to be coming from somewhere else entirely. Her biggest theory was that it had something to do with the cords in the basement, but even that turned out to be a dead end.

So, whatever it was, all she could do was wish it would just stop already, because not even tea was helping to make it any better. She almost even wished Annoying Vinyl Hipster would come in that day, if only for the distraction and so she could ask him if he heard it, too, because a part of her worried that it really was all in her head.
