Caritas- Tuesday

This was the first year maybe since she'd gotten to Fandom that Kitty hadn't had a kid show up, and it was kind of messing with her a little. She was also resolutely trying to think about it- especially since she had that kid that kept showing up- and was spending her shift trying to adapt classic recipes, like what if you tried a mai tai with midori?

Okay, maybe skip that one.

"Kitty," Faye greeted her evenly, taking a seat gingerly on a barstool. "Vodka cranberry, if you can."

Look, she was recovering from multiple things, here. Both parts of that drink were necessary.

"Coming right up," Kitty said, immediately starting on the drink. "How're you doing, Faye?"

[flourish_or_perish]

Faye made a face as an answer. "Long weekend," she replied. "Got my phone stolen by my never-going-to-happen daughter. This place, I swear."

Plus other things.

[throughaphase]

"Oh, you got a delinquent kid?" Kitty smiled, passing over the drink.

[flourish_or_perish]

"I mean, I shouldn't be surprised," Faye acknowledged, raising the drink in a little salute. "But I'm not a kid person anyway so it wasn't my favorite, anyway."

Last week, on the other hand. Even if she was now paying for it.

"The important thing is you survived it," Kitty told her. "Even if your phone did not."

[flourish_or_perish]

"I hear it's annual," Faye noted gloomily.

Which just seemed unfair, honestly. It didn't need to be a recurring lesson about consequences, if that's what it was.

[throughaphase]

"Annual. But not always the same time of year, so you can't always prepare," Kitty nodded.

Prepare or run, whatever.

[flourish_or_perish]

Prepare by running....

"Well, that's terrible," Faye decided. "Did you even get one, having a real kid and all?"

Oh, god, was Lexi one of these that just didn't go away after a weekend? Could they do that?

[throughaphase]

"Not this year," Kitty said, frowning. "Usually a Lexi shows up, but last year she was not amused at having to take pictures with her baby self so maybe she skipped the portal this time."

[flourish_or_perish]

"That seems like the kind of thing where you can create a time travel problem," Faye said, rubbing lightly at one temple. "Like, what if she had been holding her baby self and dropped her?"

[throughaphase]

"Kids get dropped sometimes," said Kitty, who was used to this after two and a half years of parenting. "But if anything were to happen it'd just create another alternate timeline."

She knew these things!

[flourish_or_perish]

"And there's infinity of those," Faye supplied, at least understanding that much. "Which at least explains my kid this weekend. Because her dad -- no. Not in a million years. Not if he was the last guy in the solar system."

You know, Faye, protesting that much just makes it obvious how much you really do like the guy.

[throughaphase]

Sure, Faye.

"What's so bad about him?"

[flourish_or_perish]

"What's not so bad about him?" Faye countered with a snort. "He's a guy I used to work with." And, like, whose ship she'd just lived on for awhile because he was nice enough to let her, but whatever. "Just, like, the most arrogant, obnoxious, stuck-up...."

She huffed out a breath. "And he's not even cute." Okay well that one was an actual lie, but it did make her feel better to say. "So obviously our daughter this weekend was the island deciding to be cute, or whatever."

[throughaphase]

"...Uh huh."

Kitty knew how this went!

[flourish_or_perish]

"I also haven't even seen him in months," Faye pointed out, like that had any bearing on the situation at all.

[throughaphase]

"Sure, you've been here," Kitty nodded.

[flourish_or_perish]

"See? Thank you." Way to get it, Kitty, exactly. "And it's also weird that I didn't get kids with anyone I hung out with last week, instead."

It was polite of Faye to actually euphemize, there. Thank you, Faye.

[throughaphase]

"Who were you hanging out with?" Kitty wondered.

[flourish_or_perish]

"I made several friends last week. Or at least got to know a bunch of existing ones better," Faye said with a coy little smile, taking a sip of her drink. And revisited a couple of old favorites, while she was at it! "I heard that's annual, too."

[throughaphase]

"More or less." There'd been done wonky timing a couple times. "Also hard to prepare for."

[flourish_or_perish]

"But easier to look forward to," Faye declared with a bright smile.

She was always prepared for sex pollen. Mostly. Except for how she really needed to drink more water during it next year.

[throughaphase]

"True!" Unless you had a two-year-old! Then there were challenges! "Last time it hit right at Valentine's Day too."

[flourish_or_perish]

"Making a note," Faye replied, already pulling out her new phone to do just that. "So it was late this year."

Though prom seemed pretty appropriate, too.

[throughaphase]

"Yes. But I also think it was in September once."

So, you know. Keeping everybody on their toes.

[flourish_or_perish]

"So does that mean it came twice in one year?" Faye asked, and you better believe she arched her brows with full knowledge of how innuendo-y that came out, yes.

[throughaphase]

"It may have been the opposite."

Kitty didn't remember which way it went, but she kind of wanted to see the reaction.

[flourish_or_perish]

"Then I hope everyone made up for lost time," Faye decided, sipping her drink with a smile.

[throughaphase]

"It was at Parents Weekend."

So while it might be Faye's dream, for some other people...

[flourish_or_perish]

"Oh, that sounds horrible." Like, Faye would happily hook up with someone's dad or sibling, but that was also the only possible way for the circumstances surrounding Lucia to arise.

[throughaphase]

"Living in this town if kind of a gamble," Kitty said.
