The Park, Monday morning before sunrise

For a change Allie was still on the island and not doing her usual vaccine supply run back home. Instead she spent the night patrolling the island before finally settling in a bench in the park and sending some texts to some old friends. Maybe they'd understand that bad feeling she had.

Strangely enough, Kitty's text made Allie feel a little better. So you're feeling it to?

I don't know. Not having a great morning. Lexi is in a MOOD.

So as far as Kitty had figured, that had set the tone for her day, especially when nothing she did made anything better.

What are you feeling?

Allie didn't have much experience with kids, but she had an imagination. Two minutes on her phone and an order of coffee, OJ, and assorted breakfast pastries were on their way from JGoB to Kitty & Clint's.

That usual low-grade worry I always have that someday Rabids or other vampires from my world are going to come find the island? At high alert today. Don't know why.

Huh, that's weird. And now Kitty was going to worry about it too. They can't get here, right?

I suppose they can cross the causeway if the island lets them. Most of the time I think the island is too smart for that. Today? I don't know.

I'm sure it's fine.

There was still a really long pause before Kitty sent that, though.

And Allie counted every second of that pause.

I keep telling myself that. But...

A minute later.

I'm sure it'll be fine.

Really we're more in danger of way more local things.

And a moment later, WHICH WILL NOT HAPPEN.

Except they probably already were.

Allie glanced around the park, half expecting to see something creeping out of the pond.
