Trooper Station | Saturday
Diego was in a much better mood this week, between spending time with Annie and getting avoid the mess that had happened here. He had one earbud in, listening to past radio broadcasts to hear about what he missed while he pretended to do paperwork.
The one benefit about being home was that he was back in his own clothes and didn't look like some Seven-loving douche.

The consensus was leaning towards rose-gold eyeshadow. (Like it was 2016 all over again, yes.)
how's work? I miss you so much already. ♥️
Like, Diego, you had no idea how much she missed you right now.
no subject
I miss you too. Just catching up on the shitshow that happened last week while I was away. How's it going over there?

I have a whole good news/bad news situation here.
There was a pause before Annie sent the follow-up: the good news is I actually saved someone!!!!! found this girl getting attacked by a couple of frat boy assholes last night & kicked their asses.
The good news really was quite good. Annie was really happy she'd saved that girl, even if it had all resulted in...this.
no subject
What's the bad news?
no subject
That was all fairly neutral news, really.
they're rebranding me to capitalize on it. new uniform.
Which was the cue for one of these Vought lackeys to approach her with a wig, a bunch of bobby pins, and a hopeful smile.
no subject
The new uniform thing was intriguing. What's the new uniform look like?
Please say it was easier to take off.
no subject
I hate it.
She would not be sending pictures, no. Especially not since Annie had tried to zip herself up to her collar and Ashley had just strode over to yank it down.
it's kind of comfortable, I guess.
no subject
Because he would totally understand hating it if it did.
no subject
She had to think for a moment of how she wanted to describe what was wrong with it. Because while she knew Diego would support her in hating this thing...you know, he'd also probably kind of like it himself.
it's not very me. It's kind of...revealing.
Just kind of.
no subject
I get it. Is there no talking Vought into letting you wear your old uniform?
no subject
A brief pause, and then:
team*
it has gloves. still kind of figuring out texting with them.
They were apparently compatible with using a touch screen, or so Seth and Evan had assured her, but Annie was already anticipating just pulling off her gloves to text, as she had just now.
no subject
I'm sorry. It really seemed like Vought was determined to take everything away from Annie. Do you want me to come over there?
He didn't think he'd be able to actually do anything about the uniform, but he could keep her company, at least.
no subject
think I'm booked up for the weekend. You'd end up sitting around a lot. ☹️
And he had done a lot of that last week, already.
ugh Diego it has HIGH HEELS.
Like, heels so high that she was pretty sure she was taller than him in them. These things were like fucking stilts.
no subject
Again, if he saw them in person he'd probably have a different reaction, but right now it was easier to focus on being supportive.
no subject
Though she was zippered in and taped up in a few places so that if she did move there would be no wardrobe malfunctions.
and no cape. ☹️
He knew how much she loves her cape, damn it.
no subject
Diego was not a big fan of the cape. It was too hard to take off!
no subject
And honestly, Annie would have appreciated the coverage of her cape in the bodysuit. This thing was cold, not to mention that like, it really showcased some of her usually-fairly-hidden assets.
the gloves are sort of cool. She was trying to find a positive, and so this message was accompanied by a close-up picture of Annie's open hand, showing that she was wearing a gold glove with a star-shaped cutout over the palm.
no subject
Do you want me to find more pics of my dorky superhero outfit to make you feel better?
She hadn't even seen the matching leather jumpsuits they had to wear.
no subject
That instantly made her feel a lot better. Not just the prospect of embarrassing, dorky pictures of young Diego, but just the offer.
It helped a lot. Especially considering she had been told she could take a break, and was trying to negotiate her way over to a chair in these heels.
(Maeve got to wear flats. This was such bullshit.)
my new uniform is not dorky, at least.
She could think of a lot of other adjectives. But no, not dorky.
no subject
I'm going to have to see this disaster uniform at some point, I hope you know this.
no subject
Like, hell no.
you have to at least pretend you hate it when you see it. please.
Which was probably a really good clue as to all the things Annie did not like about this new outfit.
no subject
no subject
I miss you.
Seriously, she would be kicking herself (figuratively -- it would really hurt to get kicked by these new boots, which she supposed was a benefit of them) for how long it had taken her to just talk to him last week. They'd lost a lot of time to awkwardness.
And hey, at least the uniform gave her something to focus on besides that thing that had happened, though it was a whole new indignity to have to suffer, and she was starting to feel so self-conscious with how people looked at her in this thing.
what if I came to you sometime next week and we had a little date night? Because having something like that to look forward to would help a whole lot, right now.
no subject
I miss you a lot.

Sometimes sending a dozen emoji hearts was the only way to get a point across, you know?
I could come Tues-Wed? I have this dumb A-Train vs. Shockwave race I have to go to but I could come right after.
After stopping to change out of this monstrosity, of course. She definitely would have time, for sure.
no subject
Then, looking behind him to make sure nobody was over his shoulder, added the kissyface emoji that he would swear he never uses.
no subject
the creepy shit's all gone, right?
Because she could bring her more practical uniform to fight and patrol in, if not! (And wasn't it something that the practical uniform was the one with tulle.)
no subject
It said a lot Diego would rather spend time with Annie--even awkward time--than fight something.
no subject
Somehow. Maybe they could take a little excursion to Baltimore sometime soon, since...it seemed like she was still going to have to do the vigilante thing if she wanted to do any real superheroing instead of this...life-size Barbie shit.
and hey, at least you have some cool new clothes to show for it.
no subject
no subject
Not that she expected to ever, ever see him in it, but you know.

no subject
Even if it just made her wish she was actually still sleeping with him regularly these days, since she definitely had better, more restful sleep with Diego.
(Though it also reminded her to try and steal one of his shirts when she visited this week so that she could sleep in it, like a weirdo.)

She followed it up quickly with:
but don't you think he seems like more of a Homelander kind of guy?
Throwing a little angel-faced emoji on there only made it clearer she knew how poorly that would go over, yes.
no subject
Oh yeah, Homelander's vibe totally matches his.
no subject
Frosted A-Trains were kind of hard to beat, though.

So far, the cereal and the toys were her favorite pieces of merchandise, since they were kind of meant for kids. She could take or leave the ridiculous amount of beauty products they were rolling out under her brand.

Hope he was also pumped to get a plush Starlight doll, since Annie had one of those for him, too. (And she had the old uniform, so she was probably a collectible by now.)
