Seivarden had struggled to forget last week using a method that wasn't the same as she had used last week. It had been a struggle, but so far she had managed, and if nothing else she was doing ok, all things considered.

No, she wasn't doing ok, but it could be a lot worse.

There would be no Radchaai arrack special this week, as she had temporarily stowed those boxes away in her closet, and she decided to go with a reliable one:

Tino wasn't that impressed, not that Seivarden cared about his opinion.

"You know," said Amaya, with a faint grin as she leaned on the bar a little and hitched a thumb toward the special'a board, "pretty sure that, by the third time in a row, it ain't really all that special any more."

"There will be something different next week at least," Seivarden said, not taking Amaya's observation too seriously.

"So, beer?"

"Beer," Amaya confirmed with a nod as she settled into a seat. "And I'll hold you to that, too, you know. At the rate you're going, it better be pretty special next week, too."

No pressure or anything!

Seivarden grinned.

"I promise you it will be something you've never tried before."

"Careful not to set the bar too high though," said Amaya, who felt she had a pretty good guess what she could expect next week now. "We might get some new teachers in, and then they'll expect you to bring your A-game every week after, too."

"So are you saying I need to start making an effort?" Seivarden said.

She placed a generic beer in front of Amaya. She was welcome to complain if she wanted something else.

"I'm saying," said Amaya with a grin as she lifted her beer in appreciation because, really, she wasn't all that picky when she wasn't being paranoid about being turned inadvertently into a goblin, hob or otherise, "don't go setting an expectation you don't plan to keep."

"You're assuming I care about don't disappointing the customers," Seivarden said cheerfully.

"Actually, that sounded bad, didn't it."

Amaya's grin broadened.

"I might try to avoid sayin' a thing like that where your boss might here," she noted, "at the very least."

"I will, but only out of politeness," Seivarden said. "I doubt Kitty will fire me, and if she did, I could probably find something else to do that I have just as little experience with."

She grinned. "You might have to take me on as an apprentice."

And, boy, didn't the word 'apprentice' settle a bit like 'movie night's did these days, only, in Amaya's opinion, much, much worse.

There were reasons she didn't actively seek out a new one, even if she did have a two-anvil shop!

So if Amaya's snort sounded a bit...odd...she was generally doing a poor job of ignoring all that.

"Now that's be something! Only I'd actually expect you to learn a thing or two about swords if you did, and then what?"

Oblivious to what went on in Amaya's mind, Seivarden said:

"What is there to learn?"

Yes, that was just teasing.

"Alright, then," said Amaya, folding her arms in front of her and lifting her chin to dole out the challenge, "Future Master Swordsmith, pop quiz! What's the major difference between a rapier and an epee? Which one's got more weight to it, a bastard or a broad? Which'll take more metal, a greave or a cuirass?"

This could all be amusing to her, too, since she could be safe in the fact that there was no way Seivarden would ever be interested in ACTUALLY learning blacksmithing.

She was not going to try to claim the title of apprentice, no.

"I... have no idea," she said. "You make it sound really complicated."

And thank goodness for that, with that answer!

"Because it is complicated!" Amaya informed her. "Also, part of it was a trick question, thosenlast two aren't even swords, they're bits of armor."

When her chin lifted again, it was definitely due to preening.

"I guess I just make it look that easy."

"You do," Seivarden said, adding teasingly: "So you can't blame me for thinking it is."

"Well," said Amaya, before a good swig of her beer, "not everyone's built to be blacksmiths, and thank the stars for that! If they were, then I'd likely be even more hard up for work than I already am!"

"No new projects?" Seivarden asked, trying to think of something she might need for the apartment.

"Sadly, no," said Amaya, allowing a proper sigh for what such a dire state of affairs required. "Sometimes, I sort of hope for a little uptick after a thing like what the island went through last week, but no such luck. There's still Saturday, though, with the new semester. Fingers crossed that we get in some real weapon-heads."

It had been far, far too long!

"Maybe even enough of them to start a sword club," Seivarden said. "I'll let you know if I need anything for the apartment. Ignis seems quite content though after buying the coffee machine."
