Breq took a sip from her glass of today's special.

"Perhaps I should have ordered something really complicated just to give you a challenge."

"You could, I suppose," Seivarden said. "You might prefer the arrack, though. Or if you stay until Wednesday you could try Summer's jello shots, although that won't challenge me, of course."

Jessica eyed the specials board with a good deal of skepticism.

"Sounds like a mixed drink."

"It's not."

Seivarden placed a glass in front of her and opened the bottle.

"And it's better than what you usually serve, which I admit isn't saying a lot."

This was added cheerfully.

"What I serve to myself or to the class?" Jessica asked with a smirk. "Because those are totally different things."

"I knew you were cheating," Seivarden said with a grin as she filled her glass.

The arrack tasted somewhere in between wine and whiskey, not sweet, with spices, and with an alcohol level somewhere in between.

The umbrella that Seivarden added to her glass definitely wasn't customary.

"You're not fond of mixed drinks, then?" Breq said, taking a sip from her own glass of arrack.

"I prefer beverages that punish my liver," Jessica joked. "Anything that tastes like fruit will get rejected."

"You could to better than arrack, then," Breq said. "But also a lot worse."

She raised her glass just a little.

"Are you a regular or just here for exotic spirits?"
