The Devil's Nest, Tuesday Night

One of these days, Amenadiel would grasp that Lucifer preferred to stay a hands-off uncle until Charlie was eighteen years old, but today was not that day, and so Lucifer's long-term plans to avenge the broken water feature had to be put off in favor of yet another phone conversation on the matter.

"Oh, fine," he finally said, exasperated. "I'll come over and wave at your offspring from afar, shall I? Is Doctor Linda's liquor cabinet still as well-stocked as it usually is? Fine. Good. Okay. Yes, I will bring them. For the love of-- Yes."

Apparently seeing him at Lux had made Amenadiel more determined than ever to get this done. And Lucifer, pacing up and down the club, was suffering for it.

Beethoven it was for the rest of the night.

Dwight didnt know why he was at The Devil's Nest that night.... ok that was a lie, a gigantic lie he was telling himself. Deep down he knew EXACTLY why he was there. If there was ever a time to take Lucifer up on that offer for a drink on the house, it was now.

So with a rather large Long Island Ice Tea in his hands he sat down at the bar with a sigh.

"Lucifer" he said with a slight nod and a forced smile.

"Lumberjack," Lucifer greeted, eyeing that drink. "You know you're a few days late for the pub crawl."

"Yeah I know. Sounds like it was quite the night" he said. "Just here for a drink though."

A drink to numb the mind and forget, but still, just a drink right?

"Well, far be it from me to argue with alcohol," Lucifer said. "And I suppose I can even say something pithy and vaguely bartenderish like 'how was your week', even though I barely care."

"Oh you're all heart" Dwight quipped back. "Week's off to a -fantastic- start" he said sarcastically as he took a drink.

"Why, did you go for a stroll in the outdoors and get bitten by a radioactive squirrel?" Lucifer asked.

"Not exactly..." Dwight muttered. "Not sure a celestial being who cant die and, unless I am wrong in my assumption, has never had a child, would understand."

Not totally fair there Dwight but it was done and had been said.

Lucifer parsed that for five seconds and said, "Well, in that case, I count myself lucky."

"You are" Dwight said pausing for a moment. "The man upstairs really needs to get a new game to play other than "the lord gives and the lord takes away. It's getting really old."

Lucifer snorted. "Good luck getting my Father to change his mind," he said. "It's all part of the Divine Plan and whatnot."

"yeah just gonna keep my mouth shut about how I feel about that Divine Plan .... I seem to have already pissed him off enough as it is" Dwight said simply.

"Oh, He doesn't actually care about you," Lucifer offered. That was a consolation, right? "Just moving pawns around, no doubt."

"yeah kinda figured as much. I mean what else can explaine Haven right?"

"Oh, I blame that one more on His sense of humor," Lucifer offered.

Dwight had no response for that and just simply took another drink and shook his head.

"Oh, so you do brood," Lucifer observed. "Fancy that."

"Yeah... imagine that" Dwight said between drinks. "Usually alone. but you know... special occasion," he scoffed.

"No offense, but you seemed to radiate 'affable lunk of wood that accepts whatever axe anyone lobs at it'," Lucifer said. "This is a relief, frankly."

"You live with the Troubles you learn to accept a great deal of things- good or bad is up for debate."

Dwight gave a somewhat dark chuckle and lifted his glass before taking another drink.

"Guess I'm reaching my acceptance limit finally."

"Because of something to do with screaming children," Lucifer said, nodding. "You and my brother would get along."

"I just hope, for your brother's sake, he never has to deal with losing his child" Dwight said simply. "It will bring even the strongest down for the count."

Dwight was going to say something else but instead silently stared into the half empty glass in his hands.

"I'm not even going to bring that up with him," Lucifer said, "He has enough recent parental anxiety as it is."

"Probably for the best" he said simply. "Though trust me, if he's a halfway decent parent, which sounds like he is, he has already had the thought cross his mind. Every parent does at least once."

"Yes, again I'm very glad I've never impregnated anyone," Lucifer said. "It all sounds like a lot of fuss with very little payoff."

Dwight was gonna pretend he didn't hear that comment as he gave Lucifer a look. It would be better for both of them that way in the long run.
