The Junkyard; Sunday Afternoon [07/18].
Yeah, yeah, yeah, so Summer knew her ship was in good hands because of Rey, and, in fact, it was hard not to notice that improved paint job that meant, somehow, it had come out of the hole looking better than it did going in, but she, who had been trying to seem very casual about the potential lost of her own personal intergalactic method of travel despite having literally drawn up designs and plans to foist on Barry immediately if the poor thing wound up RIP-ing in pieces, was going to spend a good chunk of time that Sunday, now that she had it back, looking it over, checking it out, searching for any issues or injuries it might have taken on, and generally giving it as much love, attention, care and tune-ups as her limited but not unsubstantial amount of skill could provide.
Everything...seemed okay, though. Just like a lot of the buildings that got taken would be, too, she realized. So she sucked in a breath, and realized that the reason she was focusing so much on her ship right now (or the reason she had focused so much on her ship in the first place) was because it was much easier to see that it would be fine, even if it hadn't been fine. But it was much more difficult to know if the people involved in all of this would be fine...
Summer frowned a little at her ship as this thought began to percolate into some top choice fodder for her next therapy session.
"Geez," she murmured to it, mostly under her breath, "you couldn't have at least had something wrong with you so that I could just focus on fixing that right now, could you?"
She was definitely considered just throwing her own wrench into things to mess things up just to be able to have that to focus on instead, but, in the meantime, it was back to tinkering and checking things for the umpteenth time as if maybe she'd missed something with the previous passes.
[[ yeah, apparently F all my other characters who might have things to go through right now. Open junkyard is open! With a possible SP-from-me caveat slapped on because that's just my life now ]]

How's the ship?
She had to make sure, considering she'd been blasting rocks with it and flying it out of holes.

I owe you, like, BIG TIME. She looks great. srsly tho say the word and its yours
A moment later, a moment of continued acknowledgement of, you know, actual feelings and shit, another message quickly followed:
How are YOU?
She typed out the whole word, even, so you could tell how heartfelt it was!

And then, I'm doing fine. This wasn't a big thing for me. Other people had it much worse.
For Rey it was just a chance to use scavenging skills.

She...should probably check on Annie soon. Ish. Maybe bring her some sangria. Or jello... And Stark, too. Maybe once she found something truly terrible to bring him.
i bet. i'm glad youre ok. that everyone is.
Okay for Fandom, anyway.
u know?
no subject
Which was its own set of problems, honestly, but it could have been so much worse.

Summer was very proud of her (assumed) ability to get that perfectly sarcastic drawl to transfer exactly via text, btw.
at least u guys had good company, too! things were so quiet up here it was eerie

Which was, it should be noted, markedly different from I'm fine.
And, almost as if Summer suspected that Rey wouldn't have even needed the Force to tell that difference, it was followed up with:
I just wish I could have done more to help
Because in the light of aftermath, even sending a dozen raccoons, including the Trash King himself, to a screaming sun planet just felt kind of...empty, compared to what everyone probably had to go through down there.
no subject
She'd only had five days of that. Three weeks just have been much harder to deal with.
no subject
at least things can probably go back to normal for a bit
#sorryifijustjinxedit

Hopefully. There might be an adjustment period.
no subject
probably for some, yeah
Because she could definitely acknowledge that she was almost a little too quick to snap back to normal after shit like this, at least.
if u need anything, let me know, ok?
She was pretty sure Rey, for the most part, was pretty good at snapping back into place, too, though.
no subject
At the very least she had a birthday to deal with, and also she was going to end up a lot of places she had not intended.
no subject
Everyone's definitely getting drinks on me this week
Well, not everyone, but...you know.

He knew he would likely be getting lots of requests to fix things following all the hole sucking and catapulting nonsense... but he had to stay busy right then or he felt like he would be even more on edge than he already was.
And so it was, he stood in front of the junkyard, watching Summer work on her ship. He figured the junkyard would probably have the scrap and parts he needed, so Dwight waited till he caught her attention and gave a slight wave.
no subject
"Hey, don't mind me if you've got work to do, too," she said, since he seemed to be kind of hovering there at the entrance. "I'm just doing some post-hole maintenence, that's all."
no subject
Are you ok?
This was obviously in no way trying to make sure that Summer hadn't gone somewhere where she couldn't be contacted.
no subject
Which...may not exactly have answered the question that Seivarden asked, but at least it answered the one that she hadn't?
u back? How was the radch?
no subject
Until Breq had told her she was going away somewhere where Seivarden couldn't reach her.
You didn't answer my question.
Because let's focus on that and not how now you were the person Seivarden needed to cling to for a while.
no subject
Which, as far as she was concerned, was absolutely true.
ship got sucked up, though, but rey was down there as well so it's fine. Even got the paint touched up
And while Rey hadn't specified which girl had done it, Summer was pretty sure her owed Astrid a raise now.
no subject
Good to hear both you and the ship are ok.
Then:
I brought more arrack.
no subject
And that meant, even half-conscious, she was fiiiiiine.
oooooh good! Now that things are back to normal, I can get back to planning your party! Sry I kinda haven't been working on it, it's been...u know.....!
no subject
Seivarden fidgeted with her phone, then sent:
Actually, I need to talk.
no subject
Her money was on the latter, but still....
I'm at the junkyard with the ship right now, if you want to come join me? We can even take her into orbit if we need to make sure the squirrels don't get involved.
Or I'm pretty much done here if you want me to come over there?
Ignis and Prompto had definitely left straight for their world pretty much as soon as Ignis got out of that hole, so she knew they'd at least have privacy (Prompto had asked Summer to keep an eye on Issa in the meantime...)
no subject
Shortly after that she did, stopping by the ship. "Summer?"
no subject
no subject
She held up a flask she had brought with her.
"Tea?"
no subject
What with the whole need to talk of it all.
no subject
She added: "Do you have mugs?"
no subject
"Yeah," she said. "I've got some. Hold on."
She disappeared in through the cargo hold for a moment before emerging with two ceramic mugs one that was adorable and pink and covered in cat paws, and the other which was green and simply read Don't talk to me until I've had my caf which she thought was hilarious at the time of purchase.
She held them both forward for Seivarden to fill.
"So you need to talk," she then ventured, "because Breq is doing...you know...her job?"
Yes, she understood it was more nuanced than that, but some of those nuances were dumb.
no subject
"I know, it's just that I won't be able to contact her. And, well, she's Breq. Her plans aren't always... Let's just say she doesn't always care how bad the odds are."
no subject
Not that it seemed entirely unheard of for people to just be given titles and shit (*cough*Tisarwat*cough*), but that didn't seem to be the case with Breq.
no subject
She knew that was a stupid thing to say as soon as it left her mouth, so she continued:
"I would feel better if she at least had a way to let me know if she was ok. She'll have Mercy of Kalr, of course, Medic will be upset if she has another accident, not that Breq will care about that, Ekalu will be First Lieutenant and it's not like she needs me to be there..."
Here she trailed off and took a sip of tea.
no subject
She took a looooong sip of her own tea as she thought about how best to put her thoughts on the matter, reminding herself that, unlike some people (*cough*herself*cough*), not everyone was used to being so...inconsequential.
"So Breq doesn't need you," she said, leaving in a pointed pause to let that statement exist in a vaccuum for a moment, before adding, "for this mission. So what?"
no subject
She looked down into her cup. "Alright, I'll miss her."
To the point where she started sending desperate texts to her Breq replacement.
no subject
"Yeah, I bet," Summer couldn't help a soft, sarcastic, but not necessarily cruel snort. "I bet you spent half your trip staring moodily into your tea, opining, 'ohhh, Breq is all the way in the other room, I miss her so! Whatever shall I do now??'"
Summer's Seivarden impression? Still flawless. Don"t even.
no subject
"I'm not that boring," she objected.
no subject
Summer's expression and the doubtful hum that went with it made it very clear that she didn't quite buy that.
"Also," she added, "I find it interesting that what you found objectionable in that was not how clingy you are, but just how boring."
no subject
She took a sip of tea.
"I know she wants me to be more independent, but I am doing a lot better, and there's nothing wrong with missing people you love. She could have brought me along instead of Ekalu, Ekalu wouldn't have minded that."
