somethingwithturquoise: (little miss fix-it)

The Junkyard; Sunday Afternoon [07/18].

Yeah, yeah, yeah, so Summer knew her ship was in good hands because of Rey, and, in fact, it was hard not to notice that improved paint job that meant, somehow, it had come out of the hole looking better than it did going in, but she, who had been trying to seem very casual about the potential lost of her own personal intergalactic method of travel despite having literally drawn up designs and plans to foist on Barry immediately if the poor thing wound up RIP-ing in pieces, was going to spend a good chunk of time that Sunday, now that she had it back, looking it over, checking it out, searching for any issues or injuries it might have taken on, and generally giving it as much love, attention, care and tune-ups as her limited but not unsubstantial amount of skill could provide.

Everything...seemed okay, though. Just like a lot of the buildings that got taken would be, too, she realized. So she sucked in a breath, and realized that the reason she was focusing so much on her ship right now (or the reason she had focused so much on her ship in the first place) was because it was much easier to see that it would be fine, even if it hadn't been fine. But it was much more difficult to know if the people involved in all of this would be fine...

Summer frowned a little at her ship as this thought began to percolate into some top choice fodder for her next therapy session.

"Geez," she murmured to it, mostly under her breath, "you couldn't have at least had something wrong with you so that I could just focus on fixing that right now, could you?"

She was definitely considered just throwing her own wrench into things to mess things up just to be able to have that to focus on instead, but, in the meantime, it was back to tinkering and checking things for the umpteenth time as if maybe she'd missed something with the previous passes.

[[ yeah, apparently F all my other characters who might have things to go through right now. Open junkyard is open! With a possible SP-from-me caveat slapped on because that's just my life now ]]

Hello to a text from Rey!

How's the ship?

She had to make sure, considering she'd been blasting rocks with it and flying it out of holes.

I can't take credit. One of the girls down below did a touch up.

And then, I'm doing fine. This wasn't a big thing for me. Other people had it much worse.

For Rey it was just a chance to use scavenging skills.

I know. And thanks. Luckily the worst that happened down there was boredom.

Which was its own set of problems, honestly, but it could have been so much worse.

I feel like once Annie got down there we started doing more stuff. We'd get some updates once people fell in. It didn't sound like anyone was having a good time up here.

How are you doing after all of that?

I think the entire island is right there with you. We're not used to feeling helpless, especially for something that simple.

She'd only had five days of that. Three weeks just have been much harder to deal with.

This week was your fault now, Summer.

Hopefully. There might be an adjustment period.
thatwaslucky: (this isn't so bad)

[personal profile] thatwaslucky 2021-07-18 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
I will. I'm sure I'll see you this week to check in in person.

At the very least she had a birthday to deal with, and also she was going to end up a lot of places she had not intended.

Dwight had managed to convince himself to get out of bed and tinker around in the workshop some. Nervous energy was not conducive to just laying in bed. He needed to keep his hands and his mind busy so he had gone downstairs to find something to work on.

He knew he would likely be getting lots of requests to fix things following all the hole sucking and catapulting nonsense... but he had to stay busy right then or he felt like he would be even more on edge than he already was.

And so it was, he stood in front of the junkyard, watching Summer work on her ship. He figured the junkyard would probably have the scrap and parts he needed, so Dwight waited till he caught her attention and gave a slight wave.

Seivarden had just stepped through the portal from Athoek and caught up on recent events when she sent a text to Summer:

Are you ok?

This was obviously in no way trying to make sure that Summer hadn't gone somewhere where she couldn't be contacted.

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-18 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Good.

Until Breq had told her she was going away somewhere where Seivarden couldn't reach her.

You didn't answer my question.

Because let's focus on that and not how now you were the person Seivarden needed to cling to for a while.

I assumed you could text half-unconscious Seivarden texted back in an attempt to be funny.

Good to hear both you and the ship are ok.

Then:

I brought more arrack.

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-18 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I know, it's fine. I'll stop by on Wednesday and we can talk about it.

Seivarden fidgeted with her phone, then sent:

Actually, I need to talk.

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-19 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'll meet you in the junkyard.

Shortly after that she did, stopping by the ship. "Summer?"
1000yearstoolate: (talking)

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-19 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thank you." Seivarden smiled a little. "So the ship is fine?"

She held up a flask she had brought with her.

"Tea?"

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-19 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's...," Seivarden said. "I'm just... Breq is leaving Athoek system for a while to see if she can make some alliances. She told me just before I left."

She added: "Do you have mugs?"
1000yearstoolate: (nice)

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-19 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Seivarden filled both mugs, then reached for the one with cat paws. A little embarrassed now, she said:

"I know, it's just that I won't be able to contact her. And, well, she's Breq. Her plans aren't always... Let's just say she doesn't always care how bad the odds are."

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-19 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Seivarden sighed. "She does know what she's doing, it's just... Her leg has almost grown back, what if she loses it again."

She knew that was a stupid thing to say as soon as it left her mouth, so she continued:

"I would feel better if she at least had a way to let me know if she was ok. She'll have Mercy of Kalr, of course, Medic will be upset if she has another accident, not that Breq will care about that, Ekalu will be First Lieutenant and it's not like she needs me to be there..."

Here she trailed off and took a sip of tea.

"I've just recently been able to go back and visit!" Seivarden exclaimed. "Of course I will anyway, to get to spend some time in civilisation, but it won't be the same."

She looked down into her cup. "Alright, I'll miss her."

To the point where she started sending desperate texts to her Breq replacement.

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-20 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
At least Seivarden was really dependent on her?

"I'm not that boring," she objected.
1000yearstoolate: (arguing)

[personal profile] 1000yearstoolate 2021-07-20 01:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Seivarden frowned. "I'm not clingy," she lied, then realising that Summer would see through that, continued: "Boring is worse."

She took a sip of tea.

"I know she wants me to be more independent, but I am doing a lot better, and there's nothing wrong with missing people you love. She could have brought me along instead of Ekalu, Ekalu wouldn't have minded that."
