This might have happened last year as well, but there was really no preparation for piercing alarms going off before the sun was even up.

At least it wasn't cold out. That was possibly the only thing that kept this from being the worse thing ever. That one thing there.

Because everything else sucked.

"It's happened before?" Irene asked, catching that as she wandered over. "You'd think it might be on a calendar or something, then. Let us plan."

No, Irene, that was exactly the opposite of the point of a fire drill.

"Last summer," Danny said, turning his attention on the new person. Wel, he assumed new person. "You sound familiar with the ridiculous nature of this place."

"I've been away a few years, but I remember well enough the kind of idiocy this island likes to pull," Irene explained with a slight smile. "This is new, though. Really a delightful tradition."

"Greeeat," Danny drawled before offering her a handshake. "Danny Williams. Unwilling landlord."

"Irene Adler," she returned, shaking the offered hand and gesturing over to Dite's with her free one. "Next-door neighbor. So are you the one everyone's going to complain to, then?"

Poor Danny.

Danny's eyebrows went up at the shop, but he nodded. "Oh no, I'll push them at the fire department for that."

"Smart man," Irene praised him with a bright smile. "I didn't realize an island this teeny-tiny needed its own fire department; figured we were doomed until someone sent some sort of little fire-boat over from the mainland or something."

"And the largest police station for almost no crime at all," Danny sighed.

"That I remember from when I was here before," Irene noted. "We've not suddenly seen a crime wave in recent years? I know when I was here before it was all just spooky carnivals and enchanted objects, rather than...you know, armed robbery and the like."

"Lately it's been raccoon based crimes." Yeah. Think about that one, Irene.

Oh, she was. "Like as in committed by raccoons, or committed against raccoons?" she checked.

"The former." Because this was his life now.

It was a good thing Irene had dealt with Fandom before, because while she furrowed her brow a little in confusion, what she ended up asking was, "Were they working with the squirrels?"
