Outside the MCA Building, Way Too Early In The Morning

This might have happened last year as well, but there was really no preparation for piercing alarms going off before the sun was even up.

At least it wasn't cold out. That was possibly the only thing that kept this from being the worse thing ever. That one thing there.

Because everything else sucked.

"Which is why I brought the blanket," he said. "Might as well be comfortable and miserable."

"All right," she said. "You're smarter than me."

"I wouldn't go that far," he said with a tired smile. "I think I just value sleep more than most people."

"See, smarter than me," she said with a little smile back. "Is there room for me?"

"Of course," he said, lifting up the blanket and moving over to make room. "I'm not quite that selfish."

"I know," she said, sitting down so that she could climb under the blanket with him. "We're doing this in a lot of weird places lately."

"Better than not doing it at all, right?" he asked, putting an arm around her shoulders.

"That's an optimistic way of looking at it," she said with a soft laugh, snuggling up next to him.

"I'm capable of it sometimes," he said with a sigh. "This wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the excessive ringing."

"I'm not actually sleeping with that," Rey admitted. "But this is going to keep me from biting someone's head off, probably."

"Oh good," he said. "As much as I'm interested to see you do that, it's not a great start to the day."

"Is this another day we sleep in?" Rey asked. "When it's possible?"

"Well I think every day is a day to sleep in," he said.

"All right, then I guess we'll see if I manage it with you," she said.

Or if she never got back to sleep and was bitchy all day, which was very possible.

"One of these days there's gonna be an actual fire and we are going to blow it off," Silver said, resting his head on her shoulder. "Too many fire alarms will lull us into a false sense of security."

"I have danger sense," Rey told him, shifting her arm into a position where she could play with his hair. "As long as I'm not off island it's fine."

"Guess this means you can't leave the island without me," he murmured.

"I don't like doing that anyway," she admitted.

"Me either," he said. "That's why I keep coming up with reasons to keep it from happening."

"Oh, do you?" Rey asked.

"Well, when I think of them," he said. "I guess I could also just ask to go along with you."

"You could. And I like inviting you, too," she said. "I don't like the whole 'apart' thing."

"Me either," he said, even though it was fairly obvious. "And I think I've proven I'm pretty good at staying out of the way when necessary."

"And hopefully you have enough to do when you don't want to stay out of the way," she said. She did worry about that.

"I don't think that's going to be a problem," he assured her. "Even just observing is interesting to me."

It was kind of fascinating to see how a rebellion worked when he wasn't the one in charge of it.
