The Beach- Monday

It was another early morning for Dwight. But at least this time he had managed to be up AFTER the sun had started to rise, so that was progress at least. With a slow day planned in the shop, he decided to hit the beach as soon as it was light enough and get a quick workout in to start off the day.

So Dwight was at the beach and was actually enjoying him impromptu workout. He started with a swim and then did a nice water run through the nearly knee deep water along the shore, and finished it up with a nice jog along the sandy shore to wind down.

When he was finished, Dwight sank down on the blanket he had laid out on the beach and reached into the cooler for a drink as he enjoyed the view out over the water. And he had to admit, this was not at all a bad way to start off the day!

Rey still did yoga. Not as much as she used to, but for weeks like this it felt like a good idea, and she came up on Dwight while looking for a good spot.

"I see I'm not alone in thinking it's a good beach day," she said.

Dwight gave her a smile as she walked over.

"Wonderful beach day" he agreed. "Good to see you. How have you been doing Rey?"

"I'm doing all right so far," she said, smiling. "What're you up to?"

"Putting off work at the shop right now. Too nice of a day not to do a nice workout. Otherwise, honestly enjoying a relatively slow time on the island. Compared to some of what has bee thrown at me since coming here, a few random dates is low on the weirdness meter" he chuckled.

"I actually don't mind the dates. I never sign up, but I tend to have a good time," she said. "Meet anyone good?"

"Yeah I mysteriously got signed up by someone..." he mused, still trying to figure out who had done it. "And four of the 5 dates were people I already know and the other was someone I know from class and just hadn't talked to much. Also seemed to be heavily pared with the guys that night too. Not that I mind. It was a good chance to talk to people a bit more. And how were yours?"

"Good. I only met two new people-" Though one had spent the night at her place after a certain rager while Rey had not. "-but I got to catch up with friends I don't get to see enough. Which makes starting conversations much easier."

Dwight nodded in agreement. "Was a good chance to talk some more with people. Being one of the new guys in town still, I need all the help I can get!"

"It's an adjustment," Rey agreed. "I was here for a long time before I felt like I knew enough people."

Which in all honesty was her own fault, but she could admit that.

"Takes time to adjust to new things... on both sides" Dwight agreed. "So, how long have you been here on the island?"

"I went to school here for a couple years, then came back for training," she answered. "I've been back... wow, two years now."

She hadn't even realized.

"Yeah time is a funny thing- at times it feels like no time has passed and at the same time it can feel likes been years when barely one has passed." He paused a moment then chuckled. "Then the island has to go and throw you a curve ball like sending you ten years into the future. Let me tell you THAT has taken some getting used to!"

"I imagine that's got to be just enough time for things to still be normal enough that the things that have changed really stand out," she mused.

"Yeah but thankfully for the most part the worst I've had to try and adapt to is all these new fangled tech" Dwight said as he shook his head. "I admittedly was behind the times for my own timeline... so that ten year jump translates to about a 15 year jump with all this smart phones and social media stuff."

"How do you think you're doing on that now?" she asked with a little smile.

"Well.... I've figured out how to text, and take phots... kinda. Photos leave something to be desired. But I'm getting there. Just don't ask me to take a selfie" he said with a fake shudder and a soft groan.

"The photos get easier," she told him. "And the selfies... I let my friends take them and tell me when they want me in them and that solves that problem."

"Will have to keep that in mind- though I doubt there will be much reason to need a photo of myself" he said with a slight chuckle. "I think I will be fine as far as that goes."

"Just wait until Halloween rolls around and people want costume pictures," Rey told him.

Dwight made a face and the chuckled, shaking his head some. "so long as I can find a costume big enough for all of... this" he said guesting towards himself vaguely. "Other than living up to my nicknames of sasquatch or lumberjack, there aren't many options for someone my size. So the whole costume party isn't usually something I end up at."

"I know Summer's store has plenty of sizes, I'm sure you could find something there, at least," Rey told him. "It's the nice thing about having people from all different dimensions and planets. I bet you could even find something that doesn't fit a nickname."

"Good to know. Will keep that in mind" he said with a grin. "Would be good to have a change from the norm."

Even though she was terrified of the water, Jo still liked to walk along the beach so she found herself up early that morning to go for a walk. If the teachers at her old school could see her now, they wouldn’t believe she was the same person.

She was perhaps a bit awkwardly over dressed in a blouse and long skirt for the beach though.

“Good morning,” she said politely to Dwight as she spotted him.

"Good morning" Dwight replied. "I don't think we have met yet. I'm Dwight" he said with a smile.

“I’m Jo, well it’s Josephine but I go by Jo,” she clarified, returning the smile.

"Nice to meet you Jo. Are you enjoying your classes so far this semester?"

“Same here,” she nodded, “they’ve been great so far a lot better than my old school,”

"Good. I myself was a terrible student to be honest" he said with a chuckle.

"It's only been a recent interest," she admitted, even though getting expelled was not the ideal way to encourage that, "I find the classes more engaging here, even though I do struggle with math still," sorry Rosa.

"Glad to hear" Dwight said with an encouraging grin. "And don't worry. A lot of people aren't good at math. I could have gotten into mechanics or engineering when I enlisted... oh so long ago... but I didn't have the math skills for it. I mean, Rangers are nothing to sneeze at of course, but I could have easily traveled the world as a mechanic or engineer for the Army."

“You were in the army?” Jo’s eyes were wide, impressed, “some of my relatives enlisted during the most recent war, to do their part for the war effort,” she paused and added because it was Fandom, “I believe it’s referred to as the Second World War now,”

"I think I had relatives who served back then too, though... it's kind of hard to trace things back very far in my family" Dwight said simply. "But yeah, I served in one of our more recent wars, until got honorably discharged and sent home."

OMG someone save me from work- I already want to scream!
