Jaye's worst nightmare had come true. All of the alcohol at the bar had been replaced by things like juice, and milkshakes. Totally kid-friendly things.

"Maybe no one will actually come in," Jaye said helpfully, "and then I don't have to deal with children without the aid of booze."

Hearing that, Tino made a sign.

By this point Goose had had several cups of coffee and was practically bouncing as he found himself going past Caritas and reading the sign.

“OOOH SUGAR!!!” said the kid who clearly did not need any more.

Sorry Jaye, he also didn’t know what an indoor voice was at this point either.

"Oh good, this is a great sign," Jaye announced to no one.

“HI!” Goose bounced in, he was going to hate everything on Monday, or at least once everything eventually wore out his system, “can I have a freak shake?” he asked, eyes wide as he looked up at Jaye, there was a pause, “please?” he added after a bit.

Jaye looked at Tino. "This is on your," she said.

She then jerked a thumb towards him. "Tell him what you want," she told Goose. "He'll also be cleaning up the sugar puke."

“Oh I won’t throw up,” Goose assured her because he wasn’t the one who had to deal with the after effects of a sugar rush, that was a future Goose’s problem “can I have a chocolate one with lots of sugar please?” he looked at Tino.

"How can you even eat those things?" Jaye wondered. "Don't they make your teeth fall out? Or feel like they're gonna fall out?"

“I’m actually not supposed to,” Goose admitted, Commander Walsh had had a very good reason keeping him from anything sugary related as a child, “my guardian says it’s bad but …I really like sugar,” he said sheepishly.

"It rots your brain, you know."

Oh god Jaye, don't go down this road.

"It does?" Goose's eyes widened, "I thought it was because our bio defences don't process sugar properly and it gives our instructors headaches because they have to deal with us when we're hyper active," he paused, "but that's what Killbane said and he tends to lie a lot so I didn't think he was being serious,"

Actually that was one of the few times Killbane had ever told Goose the truth about anything.

"That's reason," Jaye decided. "Mostly it just turns your brain cells inside out till they stop working."

Miguel walked in, squinting in the dim light. "Hey, what's a freakshake?"

[fates_jaye]

"Ice cream and too many damn ingredients," Jaye said with a sigh.

You see what you did, Tino? Two kids in here tonight.

"What kinds of ingredients?" Miguel asked impatiently.

[fates_jaye]

"I don't know, junk food," Jaye said. "I condone none of this."

[what_the_shock]

"You work here, don't you?" Miguel asked skeptically.

[fates_jaye]

"Barely," Jaye replied.

Miguel rolled his eyes. "So you must be in charge, then."

[fates_jaye]

"If I was we wouldn't be serving freakshakes," she pointed out. "Welcome to capitalism, kid."

[what_the_shock]

"The whole world's capitalism," Miguel pointed out. Well, at least all of his world.

"Okay, so can I get a freakshake, then?"

[fates_jaye]

"Tino!" Jaye called. "Come make this kid a monstrosity!"

She turned to Miguel and said, "You can boss him around."

Miguel eyed Tino dubiously, then asked for a freakshake again. And boggled at it when he got it. "This thing is nuts."

"Yeah, that's my whole point," Jaye said, sending a glare at Tino.

Well, he was still going to eat it. Miguel shrugged and dug in. "It's not bad, just nuts," he clarified.
