Oh look Jaye showed up again.

Granted, she showed up late, and carrying a child's stuffed teddy bear that she had procured from the mainland, but she wasn't explaining it to Tino. She wasn't explaining it to any of you.

Nor was she explaining the bite marks on her hand from the toddler she'd had to steal it from.

"Do I even want to know?" Anakin asked as he came in and gave the teddy bear a look.

[fates_jaye]

"You really don't," Jaye told him. "Ethically."

[sith_happened]

Anakin snorted. "Can I have a whiskey, please? No ice."

[fates_jaye]

"Oh hey, something I'm actually willing to do," Jaye said, getting a glass. "There aren't many of those."

Which is why she usually made Tino do that work.

[sith_happened]

"I'm honored," Anakin teased, smiling. "As it gets colder, I am again reminded how glad I am not to be in a holiday pageant."

[fates_jaye]

You better know that was being met with jazz hands, Anakin.

"Dare you to do one again."

[sith_happened]

Anakin laughed. "We can't possibly compete with that first one."

[fates_jaye]

"Of course not, but I like train wrecks," she reasoned.

[sith_happened]

"Radio says we have a new vampire," Anakin mused. "Think we could get him to yell 'behold' as he plummets to the ground?"

[fates_jaye]

"He won't have the same pizzazz-" DON'T JUDGE YET, JAYE. "-but I bet he could be convinced."

[sith_happened]

"If you convince him," Anakin laughed, taking a sip of his drink, "then I'll put the rest of it together. You have to do the dance again, too."

[fates_jaye]

"Like I remember that dance. It was a tango."

She paused.

"Or we made it one? I don't remember."

[sith_happened]

Anakin laughed. "I don't either. It was before everyone filmed everything."

Will figured it was high time he checked out the bars around here, so here he was. Checking out one of the bars.

And giving the zombies that kind of side-eye that almost certainly betrayed him as a new arrival.

"Just a beer, please," he told Jaye. "Whatever's on tap."

"Thank you for being an easy newbie," Jaye told him, getting that beer.

“You’re welcome?” Will said, a little dubiously. “Are most new people troublesome?” he had to ask.

[fates_jaye]

"No, but they seem to think I'm here to actually make drinks," she said, and set the beer in front of him.

It'd be easy to see why those people could make such an easy mistake.

“I can see how such an assumption would put a damper on your evening plans of being here and standing on that side of the bar,” Will commented.

[fates_jaye]

"Right? I can pour. Anything more than that, you're wasting your time," she said.

"Let's say, hypothetically, I did want some sort of fancy mixed drink; then what?" Will asked.

(He would not, for the record, want a fancy mixed drink.)

[fates_jaye]

"I'd make Tino do it," she said. "I mean, I do like bossing him around."

Tino did not like Jaye bossing him around.

"Well noted," Will said with a nod, taking a swig of his beer. "So, about how long until people stop referring to me as some variation of 'new guy', d'you figure?"

[fates_jaye]

"Till the next new guy shows up," she answered easily. "So you might only have a couple months till new teachers show up!"

Technically the next new guy already had shown up! But nobody had told Will about radio, so it's not like he knew that.

Plus there was probably some technicality about people showing up within the same week or whatever.

"A couple months- oh, right, new semester."

[fates_jaye]

"Yep. We do things nice and weird here," she explained. Sort of. "So who are you, anyway?"
