Furnado Animal Shelter; Monday [11/29].
There was nothing in the world Sakaki wanted to do with her life than take care of animals (although florist was actually pretty high up there, and she could be content with plushie salesman), but sometimes, she had to wonder if she was just a little too sensitive for this kind of work.
Because, over the weekend, someone had brought in an absolutely precious little beagle puppy that had been abandoned out in the cold, and as the vet assigned her a few tasks to give the little guy a check-up, she did so with tears in her eyes the whole time, just thinking about how someone could just leave a little baby like this behind and that it happened all the time, and the world was so cruel!
But that, she reminded herself, was why what she was doing was so important! That was why, no matter how much they bit and scratched her, she would always love cats because they were just defending themseles against a cruel, harsh world. That was why she would make sure every animal in this place would receive all the love and care and attention it deserved!
That was why she spent pretty much her entire day on the brink of busting out into desperate tears at the drop of a hat, but....she felt she was holding it together pretty well. Giving the puppy a cute hat was kind of a mistake, though, after two seconds, she was pretty sure she was going to just lose it entirely...

Furnado is open!

"Good morning Sakaki, I...." Dwight's voice trailed off when he saw her sitting at the counter nearly in tears. "Are you ok?" he asked, as he walked over.

The bow was force of habit, really, and the formality helped her be more professional, besides.
"How can I help you today?"

"I just wanted to stop by. I realized it has been far too long that I mas been on the island and have yet to stop by... despite living just down the block and passing by here on a regular basis. Figured it was high time to remedy that and to pop in an see all the adorable critters. Since I am now looking for a pup of my own" he added with a soft smile to Sakaki. "Do you think you are up to showing me around?"
Yeah, hopefully that would give her something better to focus on. At least Dwight hoped so.

"We keep all the dogs over this way," she said, with a gesture in that direction before moving for him to follow, "over in the puppy pe--"
But she stopped, suddenly, letting out a small, surprised sound and then just staring, paralyzed by the sight of it, as the bEagle puppy she'd taken care of this morning came tottling around the corner.
Still wearing his hat.
And all she could do was stand there, shocked into immobility, nearly trembling over how absolutely, utterly, perfectly, amazingly, divinely and purely adorable it was!

The pup stumbled over, shaking his head in only what could be described as an utterly adorable way. Dwight bent down and held his hand out toward the pup who looked up at him and took a couple steps back away.
"Hey there little fella" Dwight said as he knelt down, keeping his hand out towards the pup. "It's ok... I'm not going to hurt you" he said softly, knowing his size alone could be enough to make even the bravest pup take a step back.
He kept his attention on the admittedly absolutely adorable fluff ball, gently trying to coax him over, giving a smile as the pup took a few tentative steps towards him and sniffed at his hand.
"That's it... good boy..." Dwight said. "What's an adorable little guy like you doing here?" he asked, half to the pup and half to Sakaki.

Then, she slowly came back and realized someone might have said something to her.
"Are?" she asked, blinking down at the two of them. "S-sorrym Did...did you ask something?"
no subject
"Is this little guy boarding here?" he asked, being a bit more specific. He knew Furnado also boarded pets at times and with the holidays it made sense. Though he didn't know how anyone could stand being apart for this cutie for any length of time.

Why Rosa boarded her dog instead of just having Miguel watch her was one of life's great mysteries that no one really knew the answer to, not even Rosa herself.
"This one actually was brought in just this weekend," she added. "I've just finished his paperwork and check up this morning."
A pause.
"He is very healthy, except for a small cold from being outside."

"Wait... someone dropped him off? As in brought him here and left him?" Dwight stared at Sakaki in disbelief. He knew he had a rather gruff exterior, due in part to his size and what not, but Dwight was pretty sure there was an audible cracking sound coming from his chest as what Sakaki said fully dawned on him.
"So... he doesn't belong to anyone?" Dwight asked, barely paying any attention to anything other than the pup who was now jumping at him playfully, trying to bark with an adorable squeak coming out instead.
Sakaki had better say no, he didn't belong to anyone. Because at that exact moment Dwight knew he had officially fallen in love with the fur ball.

It just broke her poor heart thinking of what the puppy went through before coming here, and, for a moment, she wasn't sure she could go on. It was all just too tragic! And she felt her heart bleeding all over again for the pup.
"No tags or anything, though," she said with another shake of her head. "So unless someone shows up looking for him, it seems like this just may be his new home..."
Which wasn't so bad! There were so many other puppies to play with, but still! It was just so terrible, imagining how he could have just been left there, abandoned, uncared for! Such a sweet little puppy, too! Whoever left him must have been just terrible. Or maybe he'd just run away and got lost?

"Probably a breeder" Dwight said as he rubbed and petted the pup. "He was probably abandoned because he's the runt since he's so small and because he doesn't have the usual beagle colors," he reasoned, his tone angry but the expression on his face the complete opposite.
A moment later he stood up, the pup fitting easily in his hands as Dwight held him against his chest. "So, what's the process involved with getting an adoption finalized?"
He gave Sakaki a slight smile as he rubbed the pup's had with his thumb as it curled up against him quite contentedly.

This was a terrible emotional roller coaster Sakaki was going through today; it was going to take a bit longer of a recovery period the more it got off the rails.
And having spent so much of her previous school years being the tallest person in a room...even compared to the boys!...there was just that slightest bit of longing deep inside of her that one day she could make some tiny little kitten appear even more cute by comparrison to her size, as well...
Thankfully, she was able to pull herself back to reality before a wistful sigh threatened to escape her, and she turned her head back toward the counter, with a gesture toward it. "We'll need you to fill out some paperwork," she explained, "if you're interested, and then there's a review process. But it usually isn't too long."

Like he was going to be able to say no to this pup at this point. The little ball of fluffy energy had already wagged its way into his heart, not at all to Dwight's surprise. He had always loved dogs and has always wanted another after moving to Haven. Lizzie had even been begging him for a puppy for several years.
Now that he was settled down and has essentially found his new home for the foreseeable future, he knew this was the right move. And if anyone dared try to say the two were not a pair made for each other, well, he would have some choice words to say about that in any case.
"I think it's safe to say, I am very interested in giving this guy his new home." As if you really couldn't already tell right?

"Just give me a moment!" she said hurriedly, once the pen was relenquished and she could start putting out folders. "I'll find the forms!"
no subject
"So... to think of a name for you..." Dwight muttered to himself as he waited for Sakaki to return with the forms.
