You know who didn't have kids? Jaye!

You know who did? A bunch of other people!

So Jaye's thought process for work was that hopefully she could serve people who really needed it while silently mocking them, and that worked really well till she noticed the creepy weird kid at one end of the bar while Tino pointedly had nothing to do with him.

"Ew, someone procreated with you?" Jaye asked, and now Tino was ignoring her too.

Sing! There might be children's songs!

They had soda? And juice. Jaye would try to serve children coffee.

"Red wine," Yennefer demanded, because obviously she was a wine mom. "And a lager, I suppose."

Zdzislawa clambered up onto the stool beside her mother and sat, looking quite ladylike. "Hello, barkeep!"

"This isn't my fault!" Jaskier claimed, trailing behind them and looking so distressed.

"Mama says that it's always your fault," Zdzislawa said helpfully, like a helper.

"Well, mama is a hateful witch---" He was just asking to get his foot stomped on.

Or for Zdzislawa to gasp dramatically and protest, "Don't talk about my mama like that!"

And to get his foot stomped on. Yennefer's heels were very pointy.

"She is a witch!" Jaskier insisted, hissing in pain.

Well, yes, that was true. "But she's not hateful!" Zdzislawa protested, her lower lip wobbling dramatically, for lo, this was Jaskier's child. "Why would you say that about Mama, Papa, that's really mean! You should apologize."

"Yes, Jaskier," Yennefer agreed, smoothing Zdzislawa's hair down fondly. "You should apologize."

Jaskier looked from Yennefer's hateful face to the child and back with affronted shock. "Oh, I see how much she's your child now," he hissed. "Fine. Your mother is... perfectly nice."

Liiiiiiiesssssss.

Jaye paused and actually looked around to figure out who the kid was talking to.

"Oh. I've never been called a barkeep before," she said. The alcohol was easy enough for her to get though!

"Well, you're not an innkeeper," Yennefer pointed out quite reasonably. "No one would want to stay here overnight."

She took the wine for herself and set the beer in front of Zdzislawa. "Here you are, dear."

...what?

"...Did you just give your kid beer?" Jaye checked.

Yennefer blinked at her, puzzled. "Well, what else am I supposed to give her?"

Look, she was from the fantasy Middle Ages.

"Usually people go for something non-alcoholic," Jaye said. "Unless maybe you're trying to knock the kid out."

Which she understood.

"Vodka," he told Jaye. "Please."

"Should I just get out the bottle?" she checked.

"You would be a godsend," Jaskier agreed.

Jaye set a bottle right in front of him, with a glass if he needed it.

"At least she's cute?"

"...I'll drink to that," Jaskier said, thinking it over.

"It's just a few days. It'll be fine," she told him.

"Yes, but... Yennefer," Jaskier said, gesturing at the witch in question. "She's threatened my balls on numerous occasions!"

"Is she gonna threaten your balls now?" Jaye asked.

"I would not put it past her," he replied, gesturing with his vodka.

"Well," she said, "have you considered codpieces?"

"That's not a terrible idea," Jaskier had to admit.

"Honestly I've never had to talk about codpieces before and I'm pretty proud of myself for coming up with that," she told him.

Billy Walked into the bar, tailed by a rather annoyed looking teenager. Course, that was kinda the default setting for most teenagers wasn't it?

Sinking into one of the seats at the bar Billy sighed.

"Two beers please," he said, trying to keep the tired frustration out of his voice. It hadn't even been one day yet... he was definitely not parental material and this day was already proving that all too clearly.

Ben followed his Dad into the bar and took the seat next to him, looking thoroughly bored and unimpressed with the day's events so far. He raised an eyebrow at Billy and gave a laugh.

"Actually going to let me drink?"

"You are my son. If you are anything like I was at your age, you been drinking beer for at least a year now" Billy said with a hint of a knowing grin directed at his son.

Ben nodded and gave a slight smirk in return. "Just don't tell mom right? Got it."

"Easy enough," Jaye said, setting two beers down. "Thanks for that."

Billy gave an appreciative nod and then slid one of the beers over to Ben.

"Oh, might be needing something strong before the night's over" Billy said with a sigh, eyeing Ben with a slightly accusing gaze.

"Oh look whose talking old timer" Ben said as he grabbed the beer.

"See?" Billy groaned, looking back at Jaye.

"Oh, you can do way worse than 'old timer,'" Jaye said helpfully.

Maybe hide under a table.

Someone please get a kid on a mechanical bull, though Jaye refuses to be named in any lawsuits.

Should up my paid time.
