That had gone much easier for Kitty than it had last time, so she was feeling pretty good today when she got to work. Aside from Tino being himself again, and the fact that there was still a stripper pole in the back room that he insisted he didn't put there and she was pretty sure he was lying.

Rosa came in, took her seat, and eyed the specials board as usual, although that last part came with a contemplative narrowing of her eyes, seemingly weighing out her options.

"You know what?" she decided, her attention now shifting almost challengingly toward Kitty. "I'll gladly pay for my drinks tonight."

"You sure? You don't want any gentle ribbing about Cat and RoboCop?" Kitty checked, like a brat.

"And give you that satisfaction?" asked Rosa. "No way. Beer me up, Kitty, at full price."

"I picked the wrong special," Kitty said, getting her that beer.

"If you's have said 'mercilessly and unrelentingly' instead," Rosa offered helpfully, like the good friend that she was, "I might have taken it."

Because screw that lightly, friendly crap. She deserved merciless and relentless.

Kitty grabbed something to write with and went straight to fix the sign.

Rosa might be worried if she actually felt Kitty could pull off merciless and relentless, but, since it was Kitty, she was just going to quirk an almost nudging brow at her as she swigged her beer.

Kitty added "Half off for mercilessly and relentlessly" because that was how the cookie crumbled, and immediately said, "ROBOCOP."

"Best movie," said Rosa, just as immediately, firmly. "Best name. Technically even romantic, that movie brought me and Tightpants together."

Well, the fact that he didn't hate it.

It was very important at the time.

"Nice try, though."

"We could also talk about the kid you named after me," Kitty suggested.

"Most of those kids were named after other people," Rosa pointed out. "Tightpants is called Spider-Man, my dog was just Arlo 2 at first. Creative names are not our strong suit."

They were honestly lucky they weren't just called Kid A, Kid B, Kid C, and so on.

"Yeah, but it was me."

Awww, Rosa. Awwwwwwww.

"Yeah, well," came Rosa's retort,"that puts you on the same level as RoboCop, then."

Which was honestly incredibly high praise from Rosa, so you're welcome.

"I'm honored," Kitty told her.

"Good," said Rosa. "You should be. If you and Clint decide to pop out any more, I expect you to return the favor."

"Per Fandom weirdness we eventually end up with a Nathaniel," Kitty warned.

"Nope," said Rosa, smirking slightly. "It's Rosa now. Fandom Weirdness doesn't always get it right."

A pause. A sip.

"Actually," she amended, "it usually doesn't get it right hardly at all in my experience."

"It did get Lexi right," Kitty pointed out.

Rosa shrugged, with another sip. "Well. You know what they say about broken clocks."

"What about middle names?" Kitty checked.

"That looks like a challenge," Steph said, looking at the sign and immediately just putting a $20 on the bar.

"I kind of did it with Rosa in mind, to be honest," Kitty said. "What can I get you?"

"Did she take you up on it?" Steph wanted to know. Not that she had any intention of doing it herself, so.

"We've been friends too long that I don't really give her a choice unless I think she's gonna get mad," Kitty admitted.

"The good kind of bar friends," Steph said with a little half-smile. "That was my friend Gabe with like half the clientele at the Black Lantern." Half might be underestimating it.

She eyed the selection of bottles behind the bar and finally decided, "Meh. Just beer tonight, I think. Hit me with whatever's on tap. Did you get out of this latest thing relatively unscathed?"

"Yeah, if leather-clad," Kitty said, getting her the beer. "I was here last time they were here and was still unaffected and still got shallowed. How'd you make it through?"

Steph rolled her eyes. "It caught me at a not great time, let's just say that." Which was an understatement, but there wasn't much she wanted to elaborate on about it because it was all either depressing, weird, or both. "You know, I've been in online fan spaces for most of my life, and being on the other side of it is a fucking trip."

"Yeeeeah. To be fair I also think they maybe take it to some extremes," Kitty said. "So you and I are probably totally normal."

"That is both disappointing and a relief," Steph decided. "Every time I wonder if I'm getting too weird and obsessive about something, I can just remember this, I guess. Though I'm not sure I want to."

Seriously, she never wanted to see Ainsley again.

"I tend to hope I never looked like that, but I don't think I ever..." Kitty paused, really thinking about it. "Maybe I was that bad at like, 13."

"Honestly, I probably was too," Steph admitted, "but I never gained the power to affect actual people's lives, which is more than I can say about -- god, I cannot believe I got fucked with by a kid with magical beanie superpowers. This feels like such a personal betrayal."

Hey, at least she could find something to laugh about in the whole thing!

"I'm sure it wasn't personal..." Kitty tried, but she got ya, Steph.

"You know what I mean," Steph said wryly, "but she definitely had it out for me specifically as a problematic character."

It was only a minor consolation that she wasn't the only one Ainsley had tagged as problematic.

She took a pull from her beer and shrugged. "Hopefully she'll grow out of it. We got better, right?"

I really spent the weekend in the Discord going "bam, great idea, gonna do it" and now I have a stripper pole.

You really did "yes, and" yourself riiiiiiiiight into that one, yes.
