KRAKEN DRILL!, EARLY Wednesday morning

In the middle of the night, the sirens went off.

Everyplace that had a siren ~~unless it was handwavily broken in case a player doesn't want to get involved~~ exploded into a cacophony of sound. It rang shrill, and loud, and it was nearly impossible to escape.

It rang again, louder.

And again.

And then the PA system kicked in."HELLO ISLAND. KRAKEN! KRAKEN! KRAKEN! PLEASE GO TO TOWN CENTER AT THE CROSS OF BLACK SWAN DRIVE AND UNICORN STREET, AWAY FROM THE SHORES, AND TIE YOURSELF TO THE NEAREST AVAILABLE OBJECT."

It repeated itself another handful of times. And then the whole thing started all over again.

At the center of Black Swan Drive and Unicorn Street, a variety of ropes and scarves and some handcuffs had been left for those who didn't bring their own.

Well. That was new.

Rey did not expect her to go there, which was why Summer got a Look for that.

It was also stupid late, which was why she didn't register that she was essentially asking for details.

"Oh, what?" asked Summer, in response to that Look. "You mean you don't get lured somewhere to find scarves and handcuffs waiting and don't just immediately assume--"

She stopped, blinked, as if fully registering who she was talking to.

"....right," she said, trying (and failing) to then look completely innocent, "anyhooooo....Reeeeey, how's it gooooing?"

"I should be in bed," Rey said, and then because she was tired, added, "Minus the handcuffs."

Honestly, it was a good thing Rey added that part, because if she hadn't, there might have been....suggestions.

Actaully, no, you know what? Summer's brain was already there, and it was too tired to bother leaving, apparently.

"More of a scarves girl, huh?" she asked, unable to help herself, unable to keep from smirking, one hundred percent ready to blame it on the fact that it was too early for any of this shit. "Or the ropes?"

"No interest, really," Rey said. "So there."

Summer's nose wrinkled a little, as she had two really good responses to that, but she didn't know which one she liked more and hated that she was too sleepy to want to make a decision.

So she didn't, and just used both.

"Booooooo," she said, succinctly, followed by, "More restraints for me, then."

"This is a weird conversation for this early," Rey said. "Did you just boo me?"

"I did," Summer confirmed, with a nod. "And it is. I should have brought coffee...."

"Perk opens at 6," Rey replied immediately.

"What time is it now?" asked Summer, checking her phone.

And immediately wished she hadn't.

"Fuck."

"I looked it up during a fire drill," Rey sighed. "If there's not really a kraken can I just go where the coffee is?"

"If there's not really a kraken," said Summer, "I'm going to where all the coffee is."

And then making jello shots immediately after this, because might as well use her awakeness for some good in the world.

"I wonder if I can have Apu deliver us some instant stuff from the store..."

Should she maybe be more concerned with her employee being safe and sound rather than delivering her and her besties caffeine?

Yeah, probably, but whatever.

"Shouldn't he be here?" Rey asked, looking around.

"He's probably too busy already changing to decorations to reflect tomorrow's big Kraken Blowout Sale," Summer murmured.

And wished she felt like she was joking more, but she was looking around a little now, too, half-wondering if she she look into that.

Spotting a flash of pink, she realized who actually should be looking into that, but knowing full well that he definitely wasn't going to.

"What would even be in that sale?" Not the point, Rey.

But a very good question, if you asked Summer.

"Handcuffs, ropes, and maybe some sort of seafood entree," she said, way too tired to be properly disturbed by how quickly she came up with a completely serious answer to that question.

"I'll skip that sale," Rey said.

And they were right back to restraints.

"Ropes are still pretty useful," Summer pointed out, like some part of her dirty capitalist pig brain couldn't help itself from at least trying. "For a lot of things that aren't even remotely as fun."

"I already have some of that, it's how I trapped my apartment that time," Rey said.

Summer squinted at Rey.

"Am I too sleepy right now that I can't remember, or do I not know this story?"

"The party at my place. I tripped the bedroom so no one would get to the weapons," Rey said, trying to stifle a yawn.

"Okay, wow," said Summer, eyes going a little wide for a moment before, she, too, had to cover up a yawn, because, dammit, Rey, that shit was contagious! "I am really sleepy because when you said 'trapped,' I totally thought you meant, like....captured it, because, like, it was trying to escape or something, and I wa all, 'okay, yeah, I definitely think I'd remember escaping apartments,' but that makes sooooo much more sense."

"It's okay, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it happens," Rey said, fully yawning because she saw Summer.
