KRAKEN DRILL!, EARLY Wednesday morning

In the middle of the night, the sirens went off.

Everyplace that had a siren unless it was handwavily broken in case a player doesn't want to get involved exploded into a cacophony of sound. It rang shrill, and loud, and it was nearly impossible to escape.

It rang again, louder.

And again.

And then the PA system kicked in."HELLO ISLAND. KRAKEN! KRAKEN! KRAKEN! PLEASE GO TO TOWN CENTER AT THE CROSS OF BLACK SWAN DRIVE AND UNICORN STREET, AWAY FROM THE SHORES, AND TIE YOURSELF TO THE NEAREST AVAILABLE OBJECT."

It repeated itself another handful of times. And then the whole thing started all over again.

At the center of Black Swan Drive and Unicorn Street, a variety of ropes and scarves and some handcuffs had been left for those who didn't bring their own.

Well. That was new.

After a minute or ten, someone has thoughtfully changed 'KRAKEN!' in the recording to 'KRAKEN ...drill!'.

Realizing that alarms and announcements were not just going to stop, Summer, who brought far more weapons than anything else, let's be real, followed the instructions by going to the town center, saw all the various restraining methods, and could not help herself from noting:

"Yeah, okay, but if the island really wanted to get us all in on some kinky shit, it should have just asked."

Seriously, you wake her up in the middle of the night, and you expect her mind to just not go there?

When the alarms started Liz had only been sleeping lightly, trying to catch what little sleep she could and instantly panicked that she had set off the fire alarm but it took her a moment to realise it wasn’t a fire, she also wasn’t leaving Rain behind so she had her in her pet carrier before she headed to the meeting point.

At least Liz did not have that far to go to the town centre, even though she was still feeling very confused about all the restraints and why they were needed.

Goose had still been awake when the alarms had gone off, he had intended on going to bed but that burst of static that he heard and then hearing Ignis and Prompto had him working on his communicator to try and reestablish the connection.

So that meant Goose was shirtless and rather distracted as he made his way to the town centre, still trying to work on that communicator. He blinked a lot when he looked up and saw the restraints, he really had no idea what was going on, he felt like he had missed something.

Stark had leapt out of his bed when the noise started. He managed to grab his gun and shove his feet into a pair of shoes (but did not stop for a shirt) before taking off for the center off town.

When he arrived he stopped, blinking a few times, and stared at the collection of restraints.

Jo was feeling very confused, Malory Towers had not had drills of any kind so she wasn't sure what was happening at first but then the voice had said to meet at the town centre so Jo made her way over in only her nightdress, feeling very self conscious about that.

"Oh my..." Jo blinked, staring at the handcuffs that she had ended up at in confusion, "I have to use these?"

Someone didn't understand what other possible purpose any of this could be used for.

Rey didn't feel like anything was wrong, but since there were alarms and she'd just talked about invasions the other day, she was here and ready with a lightsaber.... for nothing.

And now she was gonna be mad.

Sakaki wasn't sure she knew what the kraken was, but it sounded serious, so she definitely made haste toward the designated area, uncertain of what to make of all of this and suddenly wishing she knew more about kaiju movies than she did.

Well, wasn't the first time Steven had been woken up in a panic and probably wouldn't be the last. Also wasn't the first time he started to fall asleep standing up or by accidentally leaning on the closest available person if they wanted weren't careful.

Of course Octavia brought her own restraints!

She was also, perhaps inexplicably to some, clutching a squirmy porg under one arm. "What the hell is this?" she demanded from no one in particular. (You know, except from being a deeply distressing situation for boat people.)

Irene was disoriented, of course, but she remembered the fire thing from last summer. This was at least...well, more exciting? There hadn't been any fires, but it sounded like there was a sea monster out there!

She turned up at the town center, looking sleepy in La Perla jammies and robe.

And more importantly, hauling a bag from Dite's. "Brought rope and cuffs, if anyone needs extra tie-downs," she called. Look, she didn't know what sort of restraints were already provided. She was helpful.

You know it was an impressive set of alarms when it even managed to get Amaya to wake up. That woman could literally sleep through someone stealing her bed out from underneath her.

And she definitely came with the Crumbler, because that was definitely something that should be operated in the middle of the night when still half-asleep, right?

"Where is it?" she sleepily asked. "Where's the Kraken?" And she started sorting through a handful of her materia. "You think we need fire, ice, or lightning for this thing?"

She was not coming to play, she wanted to go back to sleep, thank you.

A rather sleepy eyed Connor and a far too chipper Rex showed up at the designated location after a very confusing wakes up. It thankfully wasn't too far of a walk and for a moment Connor just stood there looking around at the already assembled crowd.

"Ok what and the what now?" he muttered with a yawn. "A kraken? Like.. an actual kraken? Really?"

It was a very reluctant Shunsui who was sleepily dragging his feet over to the town center, especially because he was pretty sure if anything was happening with a kraken, he could handle it just fine.

But, of course, that would mean making an effort and potentially having to fight or use his powers, none of which he cared to do, and, besides, the announcement had mentioned tying yourself to nearby objects, and if it just so happened that any beautiful ladies were in need of a tall, solid Shinigami of an object, well....he certainly would hate to deprive them of that important safety precaution....

One of the super-not-fun quirks of Sloth was that sometimes, due to sleeping so much of the rest of the time, Gray was wide awake in the middle of the night and thus bored stupid, but unable to go back to sleep until his sin deemed it so. So when the alarm went off, he had actually been more or less sulking in the common room so he wouldn't wake Graham, and he practically bounced to the meeting area, so thrilled was he to have something to do.

"Hi, everyone! Does anyone need help getting tied up? I know all sorts of knots!...not like that. Okay, maybe kind of like that. I used to live on a pirate ship."

You'd think as a firefighter he'd be less cranky about being woken in the middle of the night by sirens.

Belle was not happy about being woken out of a sound sleep. She was less happy about walking here in her slippers which were never meant to see bare ground. She was even less happy about being seen in the little pair of sleep shorts with books printed on them that she was wearing along with a shirt that was hers now but definitely wasn't hers to begin with.

Of course McGarrett was up for the this! He'd brought rope, extra rope, a different kind of extra rope and was showing local NPCs how to tie knots that were strong, secure, and still easy to get yourself out of when your hands were bound.

Some of that he'd learned from multiple kidnappings, but most he'd picked up by being bored while in the Navy.

In about half an hour, the PA system kicked back on.

It was much quieter. And whoever was speaking did so at a much brisker pace. "That was a drill thank you all very much have a nice day the School Board appreciates your dedication to island safety bye."
