KRAKEN DRILL!, EARLY Wednesday morning

In the middle of the night, the sirens went off.

Everyplace that had a siren unless it was handwavily broken in case a player doesn't want to get involved exploded into a cacophony of sound. It rang shrill, and loud, and it was nearly impossible to escape.

It rang again, louder.

And again.

And then the PA system kicked in."HELLO ISLAND. KRAKEN! KRAKEN! KRAKEN! PLEASE GO TO TOWN CENTER AT THE CROSS OF BLACK SWAN DRIVE AND UNICORN STREET, AWAY FROM THE SHORES, AND TIE YOURSELF TO THE NEAREST AVAILABLE OBJECT."

It repeated itself another handful of times. And then the whole thing started all over again.

At the center of Black Swan Drive and Unicorn Street, a variety of ropes and scarves and some handcuffs had been left for those who didn't bring their own.

Well. That was new.

[[ KRAKEN DRILL! Now with some OCD... ]]

"No, no, you've got it in one there," Steven said, genuinely impressed. "Spot on. Especially the part about him being a real bell end. Yeah. Because of the job there's sort of a perk with healing and the like. Could all the way die and still come back. I mean it wouldn't feel nice. Wouldn't do it as a hobby. But it's reassuring at least."

Irene briefly considered sharing that she herself was legally dead twice over, now, but that was much less interesting (and, frankly, a lot more depressing for her, personally) than hearing about Steven's interesting, actual resurrection powers!

"Is it just the healing, then, or can you shoot flames out of your eyebrows or something too?" she asked, interested. "Oh, and does Marc get the kickback as well?"

She was still very much under the impression that Marc was some sort of business partner, or close friend, or maybe a romantic partner -- but there was something odd there, and she could not yet put her finger on it.

Steven was definitely oblivious to how many hints he dropped about his and Marc's situation to someone who was an observant person. And Irene hadn't even run into Marc yet to notice they both smelled like they used the same shampoo and the like since, well, yes.

"Oh no, there's other bits as well," Steven said. "Strength, speed. Flight. I leave that one to Marc though, he's better at it. More practice than I have since he's been at it for years now."

"Oh, I always thought flying would be fun," Irene commented, a note of envy sneaking into her voice unbidden. "But yes, that does seem like an area where practice would be rather crucial."

Though also probably an area where healing would be a useful skill as well.

"Don't know that he's done it for fun," Steven admitted. Though it was a fair bet Marc hadn't since Marc rarely did anything for fun. "More like getting from A to B? But yeah, not something I wanted to try in a pinch as a first time. I think him having a cape helps as well."

"Oh, a cape." Irene was appropriately impressed, and not just because she, herself, favored a cape from time to time. (Not quite as much as some others in town. More as a cozy fall/winter accessory.) "I always wondered if capes for flying folks were for aerodynamics or just style."

Probably a bit of both?

"Bit of both in his case, I think," Steven said. "Especially since his suit is ceremonial armor so there's all sorts of bits that are symbolic."

Granted Steven's suit also had those things but they were more subtle looking. Which was one of many reasons why Steven liked his suit better than something with a pretentious name like ceremonial armor.
