Of course the bar was done up for Pride, and Tino had specials for drinks in rainbow colors (though you'd have to order them as like, "Red" and "Green" while having no idea what was in them), and this was going to be interesting when your bartenders were this truly lazy.

"You have to do the hard work," she told him. "The menu is your fault."

He did this to torture her, she was sure.

Marc had called dibs on having the body that night for the express purpose of checking to see if someone kept their promises. As such it wasn't long after Caritas was opened that Marc showed up, sat down at the bar, and waited.

Expectantly.

"Most people start with hello," she told him.

[hasaknightjob]

"Oh, see I heard the pushy bartender who works here would tell me what I was drinking," Marc replied. "So I was waiting on that."

He nodded towards the empty space in front of him which was, obviously, sans drink.

"Pretty sure I already said," she said, setting a beer in front of him.

[hasaknightjob]

Marc held up the beer and made a show of examining it. "Color's all right. Not too much foam. Suppose it'll do."

Marc gave exactly zero shits about things like a proper pour of beer. Did it have alcohol in it and not taste like raccoons had used it to wash their hands? He was good. And frankly some days the raccoon thing was optional.

"Don't tell me you're one of those," Jaye said with a frown.

[hasaknightjob]

"I'm just saying the bartender came highly recommended," Marc replied. He did take a long swallow of his beer though because he was nowhere near one of those.

"That person was ill-informed," Jaye told him. "In fact I thank you for not ordering a color because I would have just served cough syrup."

[hasaknightjob]

"I was told I didn't have to order," Marc reminded her. "I would take the drink I was given and be glad for it."

[fates_jaye]

"And you're glad, I bet," she said.

[hasaknightjob]

Marc shrugged a shoulder. "I'm not upset about it."

[fates_jaye]

"See? A ringing endorsement."

It worked for her anyway.

"It involved no talking on my part," Marc said, which was a ringing endorsement for him.

Well there'd been some talking but that'd been outside of the drink order.

"I'll take it," Jaye said. "Is this the scintillating conversation you came here for two weeks in a row?"

[hasaknightjob]

"First time I've been in this bar," Marc reminded her. He took a very smug drink from his beer.

[fates_jaye]

"But you showed up to it you said," Jaye said.

[hasaknightjob]

"Doorway doesn't count as inside," Marc said. Obviously.

[fates_jaye]

"Really trying to split hairs on this one, huh?" she asked.

[hasaknightjob]

"Pretty sure that's what it says in the fire code," Marc replied. He had no idea whatsoever about fire codes.

[fates_jaye]

"The fire code?" she repeated.

[hasaknightjob]

"Opening the door and looking in doesn't count as being inside," Marc said. Though he did have to admit, "Not sure the zombies are exactly OSHA standard either so what do I know?"

[fates_jaye]

"We serve minors here. We barely have laws and regulations," Jaye told him.

[hasaknightjob]

"Good thing I'm not a cop," Marc said. He took another long drink of his beer because that reminded him of a whole host of other headaches he didn't want to get into. "So is this the sparkling customer interaction that made you come to work today?"

[fates_jaye]

"While I do need money so I can continue to live indoors, I also like to cut down on how many times I get called a liar in public," Jaye said. "So the reasons are twofold."

[hasaknightjob]

"I don't want to bring up the liar thing again," Marc said, "But I did hear that it's not you I'm supposed to be bribing, but squirrels."

He was still going to bribe her though. Beyond all the tequila he'd bought the other night.

[fates_jaye]

"I drink with them, it's basically the same thing."

Which was honestly pretty true.

[hasaknightjob]

"So it's you, them, and tiny glasses of rum?" Marc asked. Hey, he'd been told about the rum at least.

[fates_jaye]

"They get tiny glasses, sometimes we all get shot glasses," Jaye said. "Sometimes I get a real glass if there's a party on Saturday."

[hasaknightjob]

"Do the raccoons bartend?" Marc asked. Because Steven had passed by that booth at Pride earlier today and Marc had long since abandoned the idea that he was ever going to say things that sounded sane.

[fates_jaye]

"They seem to have a brewery. Not sure what actually goes on in that rabies den," she said.

[hasaknightjob]

"They had beer available at the party in the park," Marc told her.

Pay no attention to how none of the squirrels were going to be reporting having seen Marc at the park today, Jaye.

Obviously he just pinged in and had no threads. Totally normal.

"The raccoons say gay rights, apparently," she said. "Good for them. Still wary of the beer."

"I didn't drink any," Marc said. Which was true. Hell Steven hadn't either. Throw in the lack of blackouts and you had the trifecta Marc didn't even know existed.

[fates_jaye]

"That's smart," said Jaye, a woman who again, just described drinking with squirrels.

"I made a smart decision?" Marc shook his head. "Shit. There goes my reputation again."
