Caritas- Saturday

Jaye had no one here for the weekend, which was a relief and she loved it. (She wouldn't have minded if Eric showed. Not that she'd told him anything about this town.) And she was hoping for some good people watching today, though again, Tino was having to do anything more complicated than pouring because she didn't wanna.

And there were a couple times Jaye found herself looking at the stage and wondering if there was one more zombie than usual. Did zombies get guests? Or was she just unobservant?

And it wasn't very long at all after their arrival that, completely and utterly sober, Libby and Zo took to the stage to treat everyone to a very off-key, very giggly, but undeniably passionate rendition of Ziggy Stardust, because how could they not?

Zo was clearly the more natural performer of the two of them, especially since she knew this song almost better than she knew even her own name, but, for a girl in long skirts and a conservative blouse, Libby really didn't do half bad for herself, either!

"I cannot believe you don't come here more often!" Michelle said, shoving Clare in the shoulder. "Poor excuse for an Irishman."

"Maybe I just am not interested in living up to stereotypes, Michelle," Clare sniffed.

"Maybe you're just a craic killer, Clare," Michelle retorted.

Even though Libby herself didn't spend that much time there, the fact that there was a bar that let teenagers in was another thing on the list of things that Zo insisted on seeing if she was going to believe it, and so they two of them definitely made it over to Caritas and Libby excitedly leaned forward on the bar to catch Tino's attention to order herself an apple juice, and then turned to Zo.

"And what do you want?" she asked. "A Coke or something?"

No, Libby still didn't realize that teenagers could get alcohol at this bar.

She wouldn't have gotten it anyway, even if she did know, although that information would have been useful to Zo.

"Yeah, sure," said Zo, with a grin, her attention snagged from staring at the stage a little by Libby's question. "Coke sounds good. Oh! Or Cherry Coke, can you guys do the thing where you make it cherry by adding the grenadine to it? I'll have that!"

"Do you need a drink?" Marc asked Jaye when he sat down and was able. Some people started with hello but this was Marc.

"No, but I will never turn one down," Jaye said, immediately grabbing herself a beer.

Marc didn't laugh at that. Everyone knew he wasn't capable of laughing. "Any visitors in town?"

"No, thank god. My family's been here before, no one needs that. Mostly me," she said. "You have anyone?"

"My ex," Marc said. Then, in case Jaye started to look for her, he added, "Currently back at the hotel talking to her goddess. Not a euphemism."

"Definitely sounds like a euphemism," Jaye said.

"Actual goddess," Marc said, with a tone of voice that suggested he wished it was a euphemism but this was his life so no luck there. "A hippo. The goddess, not my ex."

"Oh. That totally normal thing," she said, nodding.

"The one I talk to has a dead bird skull for a head," Marc told her. Because clearly Jaye was dying of curiosity about that information. Or Marc had given up all concern about how crazy he looked to Jaye. One of those.

Listen, Jaye talked to animals but they had the decency to be overly cutesy.

"Getting in on the Halloween theme early?"

The hippo was kind of cutesy at least?

"No," Marc replied, with a far too smug smirk. "This is just my face."

"Yeah, just a face that talks to dead bird skulls," she nodded.

"Which is why I look like this," Marc replied. "It is attached to a body, if that matters. The bird skull."

"Is the rest of it a skeleton, or is it just walking around on a human body?" Jaye asked. "Because I might start thinking that's weird."

"Wrapped up like a mummy," Marc said, as though that should have been obvious. Likewise the fact of: "Nine foot tall."

"Bells on one leg?" she asked.

"See that'd actually be useful," Marc said. Since it would decrease the odds of Konshu lurking around before Marc could notice him. "So no."

"Eh," she said. "Maybe make the suggestion."

"I'll take it under advisement," Marc said. He spotted Steven's reflection in the bar making go on motions at him. Marc sighed, and said, "Steven's got this wedding thing he's going to in a few weeks. Which I don't think you care about but I am telling you so he will get off my ass about telling you."

To which Marc then made a gesture towards the bar to indicate he'd done it so Steven could shut up and go away now.

Conversations with Marc had gotten real tricky over the last few weeks.

"Okay... Well, I now know that 'Steven'-" The air quotes strike back. "-is going to a wedding."

Well it wasn't like knowing further information about Marc was going to make him sound any more sane. Frankly Marc was just riding it out at this point to see where it went.

"So I won't be here in a couple weeks," Marc said, so she understood why Steven had been bugging him about it. "You have been told so I will not be accused of not showing up without saying. By him."

Marc stressed the last bit so it was hopefully clear he was under no impression Marc not showing up for one time was going to make Jaye lose any sleep.

"Noted," she said. "You know, you don't have to clear it with me when you're not going to show up."

"That's what I told him," Marc said. "He refused to listen and I have to live with him. You drew the short straw there."

"Well... tell him I say it's weird," she said. Why not.

"She says it's weird," Marc said, apparently to the bar. "I told you."

Even if she doesn't mind there's no harm in saying, is there?

"There's no getting through to him," Marc told Jaye.

"That really just makes it worse," Jaye said.

She'd been stalked, her identity stolen, and had a nun break into her trailer to exorcise her, and this kind of felt like the inverse of that.

"Some days I miss when he was quiet," Marc agreed.

I can still hear you.

"I know you can," Marc told him.

Colin Robinson really couldn't have asked for a better response when he tried this at the other bar last night, so of course he had to try this bar to see how well it would go over.

"Hey," he said, "you guys have any updog?"

"No," Jaye replied easily. She could probably look, buuuuuut...

An energy vampire probably was going to have pretty slim picking around someone like Jaye, it was true.

He'd still gotten pretty good mileage out of that so far this weekend, though, so he didn't seem to bothered that she hadn't taken the bait.

"Oh," Colin Robinson, "that's too bad. I guess I'll just have a beer, then."

"That we have," she said, grabbing the first one she saw for him. "That should do ya."

You know you wanna explain to your mom why you're hanging out in a place with a stripper pole.

Well, Michelle wasn't going to use the stripper pole, her mother had been Quite Clear about that.

But the mechanical bull was another matter, and a few vodka Red Bulls had made her full of good ideas.

"Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehaw!" she yelled out of respect for the great cultural heritage of the United States.

Covid free so I'm gonna be afk for a good chunk of the day!
