Furnado Animal Shelter; Wednesday [09/28].
That Wednesday was all about engaging the pups in the puppy pen with some activity and fun, which was always a delight, since most of those puppies had enough energy to give even Sidon a run for his money, and they were always eager for engagement.
Currently, they continued to go around to their new favorite game, which was incredibly simple, which made it all the better. Basically, it just involved Sidon standing there in the middle of the pen and lifting a basket filled with all assortment of balls and chew toys, lifting it over his head, and dumping them all into a chaotic avalanche, sending the balls and toys bouncing and the dogs scurrying after them. And then, eventually, they'd wear themselves out, have a little break for water and a snack, and then Sidon would gather them all up again and repeat the process.
Things got even more interesting when a few cats decided to join in the fun, too, and, if Sidon was not mistaken, a few of the radio squirrels, too.
Furnado is open!

Furnado is open!

She smiled as she watched him play the game with the dogs for a bit, then quietly cleared her throat. "Excuse me," she said quietly. "Is this an okay time? I don't want to interrupt."

At the sound a cleared through, Sidon turned his head, and flashed an immediate smile. "No need to interrupt if you join right in!" he remarked with a laugh. "But all the same, we're probably well overdue for a good break, besides! What can I help you with, Nell? What brings you in to Furnado today?"

Still if they were due for a break, that was fine. "I was hoping to maybe get a couple of kittens," Nell said. "My house feels a little empty without animals in it."
She loved dogs, but after what had happened so recently to hers, it would break her heart to have new ones. Their cats had lived mainly outside, but she knew they'd adapt well to mostly inside living, especially since they'd have access to the greenhouse on the roof.

She followed Sidon. "Do you have many kittens. I know this isn't the best time for them, but being Fandom thought perhaps there would still be some tiny ones."

And, indeed, as he neared where most of the cats were lazing about, his approach caught the attention of more than a few of them. Some of them instantly dismissed him, knowing by now that even though he seemed like he would be food and sometimes brought food, he was not, and they went back to their naps and grooming. A few intrepid and hopeful ones, though, still trotted forward with curious meows.

She felt silly saying, 'some who might curl up in her lap or sleep with her of a night', but that's what she wanted. Even if John would have said it was frivolous and that even the animals of the house were just for work.
"Can I just sit here with them?" she asked.

Nell carefully spread her skirts out as she sat on the floor to let the kittens explore her.

It didn't take long, though, once he had joined Nell in sitting, for the cats to start climbing all over him and into his lap, with curious sniffs and always the few tentative licks, followed by confused looks, because why was he not food?
"Have you had a bit of a time jump, then? I thought you appeared to have gone through a bit of a growth spurt, but you humans grow so quickly as it is, I just sort of figured it had merely been an eventful couple of weeks for you!"
no subject
"Yes," she said in response to his question. "I was gone for nine years. I came back not even sure if my friends would still be here, or remember me if they were, and found it had only been a wee for them."
no subject
He went a little thoughtfully, scratching the head of a cat standing on his knee with his claw for a moment before the cat started to lick his finger hopefully.
"Are you glad to be back?" he then wondered. "It must have been a certain kind of relief, knowing you hadn't missed much at all. I know it was, for me, when I returned."
no subject
She smiled down at a cluster of cats who were climbing around on her skirts, one of them taking great joy in knocking others off of it. "This time I knew that Fandom was where I wanted to be. I'll be opening my own shop soon even."
no subject
"But your own shop! How fantastic, Nell! What is it you'll be selling? I hope you'll have nice, roomy ceilings in there, too, but, even if not, I'll be sure to visit, and worry about the back pain later!"
no subject
She smiled at him. "I think I'm going to pretend that it's the reason."
How tall were the ceilings? She looked at him and imagined him in her shop. "I think you'll fit," she said after a moment. "I'll be selling plants, some vegetables, my own teas, lotions, and tonics. Hopefully some of my own jams and even some honey. I'm going to get a couple of hives for the roof. And if you don't fit in the shop you can come up and visit me on the roof where my greenhouse is."

"My greenhouse is on top of the second floor, so you might need to come at least partly up the stairs," Nell said with a smile. "But we can see hot it goes."
no subject
There was a particular spark in his yellow eyes as he took note of the little clan that was gathering around her lap.
"Check in on how your new little feline friends are getting on!"

"And I am quite well, thank you, Nell! A bit forlorn to see the passing of summer upon us so quickly, but I know the march of winter is but inevitable! I am prepared for it, though, and hopefully, it will be a mild one. Things have also been...mostly quiet back home, so that is...reassurring."
no subject
"I must admit that I'm a bit sorry to see winter coming," she said. "I know everything will come back in the spring, but it gets so quiet. Oh! I should offer for you to come visit my greenhouse in the winter if you want. It's always quite warm and very humid. It might be nice for you."
