Turtle & Canary; Monday [10/17].
Yes, the store ran just fine by itself and with Apu in charge, of course, but Summer knew that it ran better with her around, so, yes, Apu, she was too busy to care what it was you'd done with your hair or why you literally found the ugliest clothes in their entire stock and put them on display out in front by the counter today and marked them down.
She was hoping he was just finally trying to get rid of them, but he then explained that this was not the case, and now the fact that he was currently sporting a pink tank top, a bright flowery kimono, and a pair of way-too-tight animal print pants at the moment...felt very targeted.
"Oh, yeah," she snorted, "because you're such a beacon of high fashion yourself."
She wore four dresses at the wedding this weekend, Apu. Two of them from Paris. And her usual look was simple and classic...
...but one hundred and ten percent with those other two, oof.

“Hi,” she smiled when she approached, “how was France?” she asked, since she hadn’t had a chance to catch up with Summer at the wedding.
no subject
"Uuuuugghhhh," she answered Liz's question with a groan and a tilt back of her head, "amazing. Could have done with a little less old castles and towns and shit, but, whatever, I get it, it's educational for the kids. Paris more than made up for it. I definitely spammed everything to my Insta, though, you should totally check it out.
"How was here?"
Quiet, Liz? Was it quiet? Summer was going to bet it was quiet, call it a hunch.
no subject
Liz smiled, “it was quiet, it felt weird with most people gone,” she said, “but I’ll definitely check out your insta,” she promised, she really had to be better about keeping up to date with her social media. “It sounds like it was a great trip,”
no subject
No one that she had heard about, anyway. She could have missed it. That was fair.
"So it really was, even though I was a little nervous about going straight from the trip into the wedding, but, my god, that went blissfully well. Like, ten out of ten, hands down, best wedding I've ever been to, and with that crowd? And this place? It's a miracle nothing went horribly wrong."

Which in most contexts she'd have totally used as a backhanded compliment, but that was absolutely not the case with this one. She meant it very approvingly, especially since she imagined comfy was a word that Liz was not going to get to associate with much in the near future.
"If that was your first wedding, though," she noted, "I feel sorry for other weddings you wind up at, because that one set a pretty high bar."
Not, like, the highest; it was pretty understated, too, but that was part of its charm. A good balance. A perfect for the couple.

“Thank you, It was,” she told her, “it did make it easier moving around especially when I was dancing with Prompto,” she smiled fondly at the memory, “that was nice,” she turned a little red at that.
“I think it would definitely have to be a very impressive wedding,” she considered, “if it did top that one, everything worked out really well for evening,” she wasn’t sure how many weddings she was going to get invited to be able to compare to them.

Summer Smith, that man was roughly the same age as your own boyfriend.
"But, hey! Speaking of old age," and how was that for an excellently executed narrative segue? Boo-yah!, "you still gonna want to do that whole birthday thing for him? Now that the wedding's over, I can totally shift my focus onto that."

NFB from here, please!
Remembering that Liz wanted it to be a bit of a surprise, Summer did her due diligence in offering the usual bribe to the squirrels just in case Prompto was inconveniently listening to radio tomorrow, and then gave Liz a considering look.
"I was thinking about it a little yesterday, when I wasn't hungover or dealing with a gremlin bite for class," she stated, "and I know we threw around a dinner party, but I'm starting to feel like that much be a bit too....I don't know, restrictive? After the wedding, something more casual might be nice. I still think the puppies are a good tie in; I was wondering if maybe we could talk to Sidon about something at the shelter..."

Re: NFB from here, please!
Another, perhaps even heavier and more dramatic sigh, and then she looked speculatively at Liz.
"I mean," she said, "what else does he like? That's, like, party-workable? ....karaoke, maybe? I bet Goose still has all the karaoke stuff in his spare bedroom from his and Gladio's party. Oh! What about, like, karaoke with puppies? At the shelter, or some shit, and, like, you can do a think where instead of gifts, maybe people donate to Furnado to help the animals? I bet he'd love that shit."
Because he was a soft, squishy cinnamon roll.
"Maybe we could ask Gladio, too," she then mused. "He's the one who's spent the most time with him lately, after all."
Well, not lately lately, but you knew what she meant.
Re: NFB from here, please!
“He does enjoy singing,” Liz mused, “he sings all the time to Rain,”
She smiled, “but that does sound like a great idea, karaoke and puppies, I could talk to Gladio and see if he has other ideas as well,” she had managed to talk to him at the wedding even if it was very briefly, surely she’d be okay with a conversation about Prompto’s birthday.
“So should we keep this to a small party still or invite more people?” Liz asked.
Re: NFB from here, please!
She'd definitely told herself that a few time in her pre-Fandom high school days whenever a party wound up pretty sparsely populated. She was, after all, not always the radiant and self-assured social butterfly you see before you today!
"But we'd need you to put together a guest list, then," she pointed out, "and figure out how to spread the word. Fancy invitation could be kind of nice, but we also don't have a lot of time. It's coming up here soon, isn't it? Like, this weekend?"
Re: NFB from here, please!
She bit her lip as she thought about it, “that really isn’t a lot of time for a guest list and for people to RSVP,” she considered.

Re: NFB from here, please!
It was definitely going to be one of those 'if you think you got on, you did!' kinds of things, wasn't if?
Re: NFB from here, please!
“I’ll definitely do that, when did you want me to get the list to you by?” Liz asked as she started silently going through a list of who she could invite to the party.

Re: NFB from here, please!
Liz was pretty sure it was probably a bad idea, considering who she was thinking of but she figured maybe Summer would know more what to do with situations like these.
Re: NFB from here, please!
"I mean," said Summer, "like I said, I'm all about the more, the merrier, but it's not my birthday, nor is he my boyfriend. Why would you invite people he didn't know?"

Considering how anytime she saw them together, they seemed almost surgically attached at the hip.

So he was here for another book, maybe a newspaper, and whatever else he could find that might help.
He stepped in and looked around.
"There are some very ugly clothes at the front of the store today," John informed him. "Not just modern, but bright, clashing colors and odd patterns."
Well, at least it was reassuring that John cared about that sort of thing, since Arthur had had to rely on him for choosing his current suit and hat. (They looked fine, John had assured him, even if they were a different cut than he was used to.)
"Let's go to the books first."
no subject
"Oooh," she said. "New face! Did you come in while we were all in ~Fraaance~~?"
Yes, she had to say it like that.
no subject
which I totally didn't forget. "I was in last week for a book, and one of your colleagues helped me."no subject
"Was it the cheese panda?" she guessed.
"We have an official form," she offered, "if you'd like to file a complaint or for medical compensation."
no subject
"I have no idea, either, Arthur."
Arthur shook his head. "No, it was a young man. With strange hair. My leg was broken when I arrived."
no subject
no subject
"Yes, I think so," Arthur agreed. "He helped me find some history books. I was hoping for another."
no subject
"We can go have a look? It was mostly French history and occult books when I was inventorying it earlier. If there's one thing this store loves, it's a theme."
Which was why it was perfect for her, really.

Not that any of that really affected this weird little corner of the multiverse, thank god.
"Anyone hook you up with a phone yet?"
no subject
He shrugged awkwardly on the crutches. "The man at the clinic had a phone thing. It didn't seem much like any phone I'm familiar with, but he said he wasn't from Earth."
no subject
"Stark?" Summer guessed, with a faint grin. "And, yeah, definitely leaps and bounds in phone technology in the last nearly-ninety years, and if no one has hooked you up yet, you have to let me. You won't even need to lug around books, you'll pretty much be able to have all that information at your fingertips....for better or for worse. Like a little mobile encyclopedia."
Were encyclopedias a thing then?
"Mobile library? Anyway, doesm't matter, I've got a whole thing set up for the time displaced, a phone is pretty much a necessity for this modern society."

And thus her phone appeared in her hand, almost like magic. It wasn't, of course, it was more just her returning to her nature state. She gave her phone a little shake in the air.
"Ask me about anything. Anything at all. What's something you definitely want go know more about right now?"
no subject
"I'd like to know how a thing like that is a phone, for starters," Arthur said.
no subject
She turned the phone toward Arthur to show him the screen as she touched the listing for Turtle & Canary, made the call, and...
Looked very satisfied as the phone started ringing from the counter. She waited, as it kept ringing, and then rolled her eyes again.
"Apu!" she shouted. "I'm with a customer! Answer the phone!"
Which he did.
"Never mind, Apu," she told him. "It's just me. Okay, byyyyyyye!"
She held the phone out to Arthur. "Wanna try it for yourself?"
no subject
Arthur stretched out his hand for it and brought it closer.
"It's got what looks like a calculator, but the numbers are in the opposite order, and they're just pictures on the screen," John said. "Oh! Each one has little letters under it, Arthur! I think these are meant to be like the numbers on a phone."
"Oh! So if you know the number of the person you want to reach, you would just dial it with letters and numbers like an actual telephone," Arthur guessed. "What about the handset, though?"
"She was just talking into it, but I don't see how it would hear you, or you the other person," John admitted.
