Look at who remembered she had responsibilities outside of the Darkhold today. Wanda hadn't showed up to work on time, but she had shown up. She had noticed the cats, sure, but she figured one of her employees was taking over the Halloween decorating since she sure as shit wasn't doing it this year.

Live cats was a little over the top though...oh well, not her problem.

She did conjure up some toys for them to play with though, she wasn't totally heartless.

"What did he say?" Steve asked softly.

"He reminded me of what grief is," Wanda replied. "It's love persevering. Nothing to be afraid of."

Steve's eyes welled up for just a second before he turned away. "Vision might've been onto something there."

"He had a way of simplifying things like that," Wanda said, coming around the counter so she could put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm sorry about Peggy. She seemed like a good person."

Was gonna be a real shame what happened when Wanda met her.

"She was the best," Steve said with a slightly watery smile. "First time I met her was when I was in boot camp. A guy got fresh with her and she just laid him out with a single punch--while wearing heels--and kept right on talking. Fell in love right then."

Wanda smiled. "To be honest, I probably would have fallen in love too if I saw that."

Competency: the fastest, easiest way to Steve Rogers' heart. "She had this fire to her--and in the 1940s, let me tell you that being a woman on the front lines was not for the faint of heart." He shook his head. "Now I sound like one of those old men on a front porch, talking about the past."

"No, no, it's good to talk about her," Wanda assured him. "I don't mind. If anyone knows what it's like, it's me."

Steve smiled back a little shyly. "I am truly sorry I didn't get more time with Pietro. What was one of your favorite things about him?"

"I liked that he always knew what he wanted," Wanda said, smiling as she thought about it. "He never had to think about anything--he just knew what he wanted to do, and then he did it."

Which was the same impulse that lead to his death, but Wanda knew he wouldn't have had it any other way.

Wanda's gaze shifted down towards the floor. "...if you had the chance to see her again, somehow, would you? Even if it wasn't necessarily the one you know--like how I'm not really your Wanda."

"You're one of my Wandas," Steve said with a tiny, sincere smile. "And I think so, yeah. Just for a moment, at least, to see her as she was. The last few months with Peggy were...really hard."

He'd even do it if it was through some completely illogical time travel!

"I'm sure it was." Everybody in Wanda's life had left suddenly. She wasn't sure if she'd be able to handle someone slowly fading away from her. "I'd do it too, for the record."

Only she wasn't as keen to make it for only a few moments.

"Who would you see first?" Steve asked. "The first year I was here we had that, you know, terrible weekend with the visitors. And Bucky didn't show and it just about broke me."

Wanda chewed on her lower lip thoughtfully for a moment. Her first instinct was to say her kids, but they weren't really gone, were they? Just...waiting for her someplace else.

"I think it'd be Pietro," she said. "He was my twin--I literally didn't know what life was like without him until he was gone. I lost a part of myself that day."

Steve nodded. "I remember," he said softly.

"I guess that is one thing this island did right. I did get to see him again, in a way." It was just he was still dead, which was a bummer. "I do wonder what would have happened, if he lived."

"...probably would have been a real pain in the ass at that airport in Germany." No matter which side he took.

Steve laughed, shaking his head. "That was--"

A clusterfuck.

"--chaos."

"It really was," Wanda said, glad Steve could laugh about it right now. "Never in my life did I think I'd be flinging Wakandan royalty through the air to keep him from clawing at a World War II veteran."

"At least you didn't tase him," Steve said dryly. "Natasha's Widow Bites pack a punch."

"Well, Natasha," Wanda said. "Knowing her she probably amped those things up before the fight so you'd feel it."

"That seems like her," Steve said. "She got T'Challa too, at least?"

"She did come through in the end," Wanda said approvingly. "That's what I love about her."

Loved, anyway. Another person she would have wanted to see one last time.
