Look at who remembered she had responsibilities outside of the Darkhold today. Wanda hadn't showed up to work on time, but she had shown up. She had noticed the cats, sure, but she figured one of her employees was taking over the Halloween decorating since she sure as shit wasn't doing it this year.

Live cats was a little over the top though...oh well, not her problem.

She did conjure up some toys for them to play with though, she wasn't totally heartless.

Well, Jane had spent a week as a reindeer. Which seemed like it was thoroughly unnecessary, all things considered.

"Are the cats for the witch aesthetic or for the holiday?" she had to ask, still getting back in the flow of, you know, humanity again. "But I guess it could really be both."

"Neither," Wanda replied. "Or both. I don't actually know, they were here when I showed up."

"They're cute at least," Jane said as one small one attempted to climb up her cape. Which was absolutely precious only because she had on armor beneath to protect her from the needle sharp claws.

"They are," Wanda agreed. "And I don't think they can do too much damage to anything in here."

Famous last words.

Jane looked around quickly, tugging the cat covered cape closer to prevent herself from knocking anything over. "And they have toys to distract them from it too," Jane said like a cat wouldn't ignore the most expensive toy in order to play with a hair tie.

"That was all me," she admitted. "How have you been, Jane? It's been a minute."

Wanda, naturally, blamed that on herself rather than anybody being a reindeer.

"I... turned into a reindeer for a week," Jane said, trying not to sound as deeply confused by that as she honestly was. Even after being all tied up with the Norse pantheon as she was. "With a cape on. And the hammer still."

So, just picture that one, Wanda.

Steve wandered by to prove he wasn't the moping pile of ridiculousness he'd been at the wedding!

Well, he still was, but he was hiding it better. Very healthy!

"I brought pumpkin spice something!" he called as he came into the shop.

"Just in time," Wanda said, happy that Steve seemed to be in a better mood. "We're heading into peppermint mocha season next week."

"But I like this one," Steve said with a light frown.

"That's why they take it away," Wanda said. "So you can miss it and then buy way too much when it comes back."

"That's incredibly frustrating," Steve decided.

"That's capitalism, I think." Yay, America? "How have you been?"

At some point in the afternoon Marc swung by. He was ambivalent about cats so naturally there was at least one black cat circling around his legs and demanding to be petted.

On visiting the shop for the first time, though, the thing that caught Marc's attention was definitely the giant skeleton. There was some staring, for sure.

"His name is Jeff," Wanda called. Did that make things better?

"Does he talk?" Marc asked. Because in his experience tall, skeletal beings did.

"Once he did," Wanda said casually. "We had tea together. Island thing."

"Okay," Marc said. Island thing was something he could understand. Case in point, the cat following him as he moved over to Wanda.

"Here." Marc held out a white box from J, GoB. "Not from me. From Steven."

Because God forbid Marc allow anybody get confused and mistakenly think he'd done something nice for someone.

Wanda smiled, amused at how quickly Marc added that the box was not from him. "Well, that was very nice of Steven. And of you for delivering it."

So he had done something nice for someone.

"Hey, Wanda, do you know anything about ca -- " Scott was saying as he walked in, holding a cat out at arm's length.

The cat, of course, looked exactly as pleased with her care as you'd imagine.

"Okay, changing my question -- what's with the cats?" he asked.

"Your guess is as good as mine," Wanda said, shooing a cat off the register. "I'm just glad I'm not allergic."

[dishesonthetoprack]

"Yeah, someone around here is having a really bad day. Or a really asleep one, thanks to Benedryl," Scott decided, moving to gingerly set his ('his') cat down. "People keep warning me weird stuff happens around here. I didn't realize they meant swarms of cats."

That was a new kind of weird.

"It's appropriate for the season, at least," she said, feeling mildly guilty she hadn't had the time to decorate. "Let's just hope nobody gets bitten because we don't need a rabies scare around here."

Well. Another one.

"Yeah, but isn't it unlucky, too?" Scott asked, half-teasing, half-wondering if witches were maybe immune. "At least enough people around here wear armor and stuff that it might be hard to get a bite in, anyway."

And if they didn't have armor, they might have powers that could mind-control the cat away, or turn it into a butterfly or something, right?

"'Course, then we've got frustrated cats, and that doesn't sound great, either."

"Usually these things only last for about a day," she said. "So don't bother buying a litterbox just yet."
