It was Halloween! Raiden had a giant bowl of candy on the counter for any trick-or-treaters who might happen by (and, okay, for him to snack on, which was why he also had plenty of candy in the back to refill the bowl throughout the day), and he even had a costume! Well, okay, it was a mask. He was really stoked about it.

And he had some themed specials he'd been working on. One of them didn't seem Halloween-y on the surface, but it scared him, so it totally counted.

"Nice costume, brah!" Steve said, walking in wearing boardies and carrying a surfboard. In October. Like an idiot.

Well. Halloween. "Yours, too!" Raiden said enthusiastically. "Happy Halloween, Steve!"

"You, too! Tell me about the specials today," Steve said. Like an idiot.

"Sure thing! We have a ghost pizza, which is a cheese pizza with mozzarella ghosts, breadstick bones, and..." Raiden dropped his voice like he was telling a scary story. "Mountain Dew pizza."

The horror. The horror.

"Mountain Dew pizza," Steve repeated. "You're shitting me."

Raiden shook his head solemnly. "There's Mountain Dew in every component of the pizza." He paused. "Fun fact, did you know caffeine doesn't cook off?"

"I did not know that," Steve said. "Is the pizza that weird green color?"

"Of course! Makes it more Halloween-y." And more wrong.

"Danny would love it."

Danny would NOT.

Raiden thought Danny liked classic pizzas...? Maybe he was really into Halloween. Or maybe he was a cat again and Steve thought he would like the Mountain Dew-marinated chicken. "Okay, but if he's a cat again, I'm not sure cats can have caffeine," Raiden warned Steve, out of a sense of civic responsibility.

Yes, that was what he felt civic responsibility about.

"He's not a cat again," Steve assured him. "I'm expanding his horizons past just pepperoni."

"Oh, okay," Raiden said with an enthusiastic nod. "Well, this one's got chicken, and a tomatillo sauce. With...with Mountain Dew."

"Do those three things go together?" Steve asked.

[carbsliftthespirit]

"It's citrus flavored!" Technically. "It's even got orange juice in it." Who knew? "So the overall concept is in the Mexican family of flavors, you could say."

He owed Mexico an apology.

"It has orange juice in it?"

He'd never read the back of the bottle. He just didn't want to know.

That was probably wise of him. "It's got orange juice in it!" That made it practically healthy, right?

"But that's not what makes it day-glo," Steve said.

"It might be a chemical reaction?"

That...that was probably a bad thing.

"Probably," Steve agreed, grinning. "It'll put hair on your chest."

"Or at least keep you up all night!" Huh, there was a thought. "I should make one for Gray."
