Around town- Monday evening

Lexi had insisted on her costume, but she'd really wanted it, and so Kitty let her, and she matched for trick or treating. They were walking around town and seeing who was giving out candy, with Lexi carrying an Amazon box in lieu of a pumpkin or bag.

Kitty was kind of hoping that the rain of candy and carrying a box that would get progressively heavier woukd mean they could call it an early night, but that kid was determined.

[Open if you want to trick or treat with them, or if you want to have your apartment/business door knocked on! Some SP as work is insane with costumes today.]

The clinic was still staffed by nurses dressed like crabs, a crab dressed like a nurse shark, and an alien dressed like himself.

An alien who loved giving out candy. And loved small children.

Well this small child was starting by telling "SPECIAL DELIVERY" which was the opposite of trick or treat, so.

"Did you bring me candy?" Stark asked as if it had not been falling from the sky all day and as if he'd eaten anything that hadn't been donuts today.

"I was going to give you some..."

And then Lexi realized her mistake, and thrusting the Amazon box out for more candy and said, "I mean trick or treat!"

"Nice save," Kitty told her.

"Oh, trick or treat. That's very different," Stark said, nodding seriously.

"Now. Where's my candy?"

The almost comically large candy stash next to the crab tank that was very clearly visible.

"It doesn't work that way," Lexi said.

"What do you say?" Kitty asked.

"Thank you! But it doesn't."

"I could give you some of mine..."

Stark had already come out from behind the desk and knelt down by Lexi. "Should I put it in the box? It isn't full yet, is it?"

"It's a really, really strong box," Lexi said seriously. Which said nothing about her ability to carry it, but that was future Lexi's problem.

...It was current Kitty's problem, let's be real, and she obviously knew it.

"That's good," Stark told her approvingly. "You wouldn't want it to fall apart. You'd lose your candy!"

And that would be terrible.

"Would you like to pick something out? Somethings?" he asked, gesturing towards the previously mentioned large pile of candy. "I have plenty to share."

"How much fits?" Lexi asked, wisely.

"Try two pieces," Kitty told her.

Stark would have given a very different answer to that question.

"They could be two big ones," he said helpfully. So helpfully. "It seems like a big box."

"It's a big box carried by a four-year-old," Kitty explained. Because that box was gonna get carried by a 28-year-old and it did not have handles.

"They aren't that big!" Regular size candy bars, not king size.

"But it is a big box and we wouldn't want to be too heavy. These ones," he said, holding up a KitKat, "aren't so heavy as some of the others. But I like the peanut butter cups best I think."

"Do you have Snickers?" Lexi ventured.

"I do," Stark confirmed, holding one out. "Those are good too."

Of course Stark had never met a candy he didn't like.

"Snickers," Lexi said with a nod. Then added, "Thank you."

"You're welcome."

"Do you think," he added in a conspiratorial whisper, "your mother will notice if you take three instead of two?"

Stark was a terrible influence when it came to sweets.

Hannibal was absolutely giving out homemade candies - lollipops for the children and scotch-filled chocolate truffles for the grownups.

They would have to walk past the flamingos to get to his door, though. They seemed to be playing some sort of game with flipping the candy and plastic spiders at each other. The cats were watching.

And Lexi stopped a good distance from the flamingoes, looking really unsure.

"They won't hurt you," Kitty assured her.

Lexi made a very unsure noise in response.

But they were pink! And glittery!

Hannibal got up and came over to them, bringing the candy with him. "Good evening to you both. They won't attack, but they can be somewhat off-putting." He gave Lexi a smile and Kitty a nod. "How is trick-or-treating so far?"

"She's not gonna sleep tonight, let's put it that way," Kitty said, as Lexi warily started making her way towards the door.

Hannibal chuckled as he intercepted Lexi with a lollipop. "Is your costume meant to be scary?" He asked her. He handed Kitty a small bag of his chocolate scotch truffles. "Why should children have all the fun?"

"I'm a UPS man," Lexi said proudly. "They're helpful!"

"Thank you," Kitty said. "Though honestly this is fun for me."

"So they are," Hannibal agreed with her. "I enjoy getting deliveries. What are you delivering?"

"She chose the costume?" he asked Kitty.

"She did. I'm not sure what that says about me as a parent but she's happy," Kitty shrugged.

"That you also get a lot of deliveries?" Hannibal offered. "Or that she simply enjoys the uniform and making people happy."

He turned back to Lexi. "Is that it?"

Well, there were candies and also... smoke alarms. Had you updated yours in the past year, Kitty? Did you check those batteries?

Because it was important.

Never you mind the discussion about what constitutes a two person fire happening therein.

Oh boy, safety equipment!

Lexi was mainly focused on, "Trick or treat!"

It was part of the job!

"Wow, that is a costume," Eddie had to say, grinning with delight as he offered the bowl of candy for Lexi to shove her hand into.

"Thank youuuu," Lexi said, being very selective with what she might be picking, even if she was likely to try to take all of it. Fifty-fifty there.

"She insisted on this," Kitty told him. "Could not be deterred."

Eddie nodded solemnly at it. "So, I see. It's a very unique costume. No one else will have it."

"It helps that there aren't many kids here, so everything is original," Kitty admitted. "Lexi, pick, please."

There were absolutely candy dice, but Steph had also collected plenty of regular candy (and plastic spiders) from today's weather to pass out too, in case you were worried about your kids getting the (totally understandable, in her opinion) idea that dice were just edible in general.

There was also a Steph, who'd added a goofy fake beard to her wizard costume, ready to give out candy. And... okay, she'd absolutely give out real dice, too, if it got a parental okay.

Now it was Steph's turn for a very enthusiastic "Trick or treat!" from a little girl who was having a harder time carrying her Amazon box but insisting that she could do it herself.

"What's this?" asked Steph in her best approximation of a wheezy old wizard's voice. "Ah! You must be delivering the spell components I ordered, is that it? Such prompt service!"

She put a handful of candy into Lexi's cardboard box -- she would have added more, but it looked heavy already and she had concerns.

Steph glanced at Kitty. "Is she old enough for dice yet or are we concerned about them getting mistaken for candy?"

"She's good," Kitty assured her. "Lexi, don't eat dice."

"Okay."

That simple.

Worked for Steph!

She leaned down, had to stop to readjust her ridiculous giant hat before it fell off her head, and asked, "Lexi, what's your favorite color?"
