Okay, yes, one of today's specials had also been on the board last week, but this week was different. This week was all about the leftovers.

Not that the pizzas were made with real Thanksgiving leftovers. Those were long gone in any household that included Raiden, and also, he was pretty sure the health department frowned on that sort of thing (if the health department even knew how to find this island). But it was the principle of the thing, y'know?

Rey had leftovers to deal with. That was not stopping her from coming in.

"Hi, Raiden," she smiled as she came in.

"Rey! How's it going? Did you have a good Thanksgiving? Wait, you're from space," he remembered. "Do they have Thanksgiving in space?" They should, if you asked him.

"We don't, and I completely missed it here," she said. "How was yours?"

"Oh, no!" Raiden exclaimed. "That's so sad. I'm sorry." He sounded genuinely upset, because, well, that was Raiden for you.

"It's all right," Rey assured him. "I got leftovers."

[carbsliftthespirit]

"Oh, leftovers! I always try for leftovers, since a lot of people say they're the best part of Thanksgiving, but it never really works out." On account of the Gluttony. "But that's the idea behind our specials today, too," he said, gesturing toward the board.

"I may need to get something not on the specials board today," she said, almost apologetically.

"Entirely fair," Raiden told her, nodding to show he understood completely. "I'm trying to think what kind of pizza's the furthest from Thanksgiving food..."

"I don't actually know," Rey said, thinking about it. "But I'm also willing to settle for something like cheese."

[carbsliftthespirit]

"Rey," Raiden said solemnly, "don't get me wrong, I will never say no to more toppings," because of the Gluttony, "but cheese pizza is not settling. Cheese pizza is elegant in its simplicity, like a supervillain's plan. Only delicious and not evil."

"I will be sure to remember that," Rey told him. "Though I haven't known many supervillains with simple plans."

"The ones I've dealt with are all about, 'Take over the world, enslave humanity,'" Raiden shrugged. "Maybe storm the gates of Heaven if they get around to it. If there's a plan past that, I never heard it. Seems pretty simple to me."

"Mine do that, but try to destroy particular people over years, sometimes decades," Rey said, and she denounced relation to it! "Maybe because there aren't gates of Heaven to storm there."

"Howzit!" Steve said, ambling in and grinning.

"Steve! My best customer!" Raiden exclaimed. "Hope I didn't miss you on Friday. I was in California, celebrating with my family." Although by Friday they had been well into Gray making them decorate the mansion for Christmas.

"I was in Hawaii, celebrating with mine," Steve said, smiling back. He held out a small bag. "Loco moco doesn't travel at all, but I thought you'd like this anyway."

"Which is tragic," Raiden said as he opened the bag, "because loco moco is delicious--oh my gods it's so cute."

Not as good as real loco moco, mind you. But adorable.

"Steve! You shouldn't have!"

Steve grinned, waving it off. "I was shopping for stuff anyway and it seemed perfect for you."

"This is definitely going on the tree," Raiden assured him. "I should probably spruce this place up for the holidays, huh?" He froze. "Don't...don't tell my brother I said that."

Steve laughed. "Is he a guy who decorates only after the calendar says December or does he go the other way?"

"We had to make a house rule that Christmas can't start until Thanksgiving is over," Raiden explained. "Which Gray thinks means 'as soon as the turkey's cleared away.' Dessert is pretty much spent telling him to hold his horses, unless he sleeps through it."

Steve laughed harder. "Wow. I am...not that invested, personally. But I spent a lot of time on ships where we didn't do decorations."

"I'm not sure when Gray got so into it," Raiden admitted. "We're not even really Christian." Well. It was complicated. "But it's super his thing now." He shrugged. "It makes him happy." He just sort of wished Gray could actually wait until Thanksgiving, aka 'Raiden's thing,' was over, but that was how it went in a big family sometimes.

"Guess it makes buying gifts easy," Steve said. "Just get him another inflatable Christmas thing."

He paused. "Though, apparently, those came to life one year and attacked people."

Gray was pretty easy to buy for, although Raiden had never gone that route before--it wasn't a bad idea, though, except for the second thing Steve had said. "...demons?" he guessed. "Possessing inanimate objects is rare, though..."

"It's remarkable how much gets slotted under 'Fandom weirdness'," Steve said. "Things just get strange during December."

[carbsliftthespirit]

"Someone was telling me about that." Had it been Steve? Raiden didn't remember. It had been more than a week ago, shh. "Gray's gonna be so hyped! I haven't told him yet, and I'm kinda hoping none of his little friends did, either," he admitted. "So it'll be like a surprise when Christmas throws up all over him."

"Sometimes literally," Steve said. "I took a shower in mulled wine last year. I don't recommend it."

[carbsliftthespirit]

Raiden just sort of...went hazy, as one might imagine the avatar of Gluttony daydreaming about showering in mulled wine to look. After a moment he shook his head to clear it and asked, "Sorry, what were we talking about? I--I mean, for getting clean that's probably not great, but for delivering the mulled wine straight into your mouth..."

Steve laughed. "Maybe not at 6 in the morning, but that's just me."

"What can I say?" Raiden joked. "I'm a glutton. Oh! Did you want to order a pizza?"

"Just for me, for lunch," Steve said. "So the butternut one sounds good."
