Annie was in what might well be the best mood she'd been in for a month. There wasn't any particular reason -- she'd had a really nice visit to (not her) New York earlier this week, and that had left her feeling like it was a little easier to breathe, even if it had been a little harder than she'd expected. But between that, and beating her current mile time on her run this morning and caring, and how she'd sung in the shower after and had wanted to, Annie was feeling a little more normal than she had since...well, since before the holidays.

She'd forgotten how good normal could feel, even if it was maybe a slightly-new version of normal.

"What's up, Detective Watts?" Look how smoothly Annie did that. Not awkward or self-conscious at all! (Wait until later, when she retraced the near-year of calling him by a less-preferred title and decided he must secretly hate her for it.)

Yeah, that was going to help a lot, phew. Probably no secret hatred. (Probably.)

"That's probably for the best, around here," Annie noted, and now he was getting a significant little look in light of yesterday's conversation.

“Ah, yes, of course,” Watts replied with a knowing nod.

“So,” he glanced at the specials board. “Which of these would you recommend for me?”

"Apparently she's good with a blender," Marc said, meaning Annie. "I'm having whiskey though."

“That, I knew,” Watts said. And then, after a moment: “Both about her abilities with a blender and that you would order a whiskey.”

Annie shot a grin over at Marc, because she did love that blenders were her thing now (which beat "not being able to bartend" as being her thing.)

"Are you feeling more like a grapefruit drink, or more like an orange drink, Mis -- Detective Watts?" Annie asked, considering her specials. "Margs are a classic, but you've had that before."

“Oh, orange,” Watts said without hesitation at all. Yes, grapefruit was similar in that it was a citrus only available during certain parts of the year (at least, insofar as he was accustomed), but oranges were something he knew he liked, so.

"Sunrise for you, then," Annie replied, having to smile at that reaction. "Still getting used to oranges being readily available?"

Just a guess. Annie had grown up reading, like, the Little House books, in which it was a big deal to receive an orange in one's Christmas stocking, so it seemed like they probably were kind of a luxury back in the day.

"Little bit," Annie told him, holding a thumb and forefinger apart about an inch. "This also has cherries -- it's gonna layer and make a pretty orangey-red effect, that's how it gets its name. Cherries are okay?"

"Perfectly all right," Watts nodded. Cherries were definitely less of a novelty, but he appreciated that she checked all the same.
