The Magpie Emporium, Monday [13/03]

Today when Vi came in the plushies were in quite a state of disarray, with the displacer beasts looking like they were tussling with the gelatinous cubes and the owlbears standing on top of the mimics.

She would've suspected the gremlins, but they seemed extremely caught up in their fungus game, and Saffron usually waited until Steph was around to see before making a mess.

Oh, sure, bring logic into it.

Vi returned the hug with just as much feeling. "Don't be, she didn't get what she wanted." The opposite actually.

Just because cat logic and human logic were not remotely the same.

"I was genuinely so pissed when you came in. Like... it made me so mad that you had the nerve to act like we were friends, and I just... wanted to crush that idea so hard." Steph tightened her arms around Vi in a brief squeeze.

"The look in your eyes when I went off on you still fucking haunts me."

Cat logic was superior, after all.

Such was the power of Vi's puppy eyes. "I thought you'd just been fucking with me all along, and I felt so dumb," she said softly.

Of course it was! It didn't have to get all bogged down by silly human considerations.

"I was sure you were going to bail after that even after I did snap out of it, just because I treated you like shit," Steph told her, brushing a gentle kiss against her cheek. "And I was thinking I would've deserved it for hurting you that way."

And it had its (cat forward) priorities in order!

"It wasn't you," Vi said, cupping her face. "You're not getting rid of me that easy."

Which was why it was silly that the humans kept thinking they were the ones in charge.

Steph looked up to meet Vi's gaze. "Getting rid of you is nowhere on my agenda, ever."

Silly and frustrating!

"Good," Vi said softly, leaning in to kiss her. "Because it was fucking miserable when I did think you didn't want me around."

And so presumptuous.

"I was just as miserable telling myself I was giving you space because you needed it," Steph said with a shaky laugh. "And that you probably didn't want to see me anyway. Fuck, let's never be that dumb again."

How was a cat to cope?

"We're stuck with each other," Vi agreed. "No matter what."

A cat wasn't going to cope when her humans insisted on making these proclamations to each other constantly.

Steph covered Vi's hand with her own, intertwining their fingers. "And fuck anyone or anything that tries to change that."

Especially when neither of them even noticed as she wasted away.

"And not in the fun way," Vi said. "Only you get that."

Willfully refused to notice, for that matter, despite her best efforts!

"Yeah," Steph said, laughing, and stole another quick kiss. "I'm reserving that strictly for you, too."

When she was so feeble she could barely even threaten to knock over the jigsaws too.

"And you know how much I appreciate that," Vi said, stealing that kiss right back. "Your affections only being for girls named Vi."

Because she was wasting away from neglect. Yes, that included her own neglect of her full bowl, what of it?

Steph laughed a little bit awkwardly. "Girls named Vi with pink hair, awesome tattoos, and amazing muscles, yeah."

Had to, you know. Specify which of the girls named Vi that she'd ever dated.

That was besides the point!

It was something of a two nickels situation. "Flattery a gonna get you...pretty much everywhere," Vi said, grinning at her.

The point being that her humans were wronging her on an epic scale. How? They just were, okay?

"I'm just stating facts," Steph said cheerfully. "I could make a conscious effort to flatter you if you really want me to, though."

And anyone who believed otherwise was also wronging her!

Vi pretended to think about it. "Like I'm going to pass on you saying nice things about me."

Basically Saffron was the most hard done by cat in all of existence.

"What's in it for me if I do?" Steph asked, snuggling into her.

None knew suffering like she did.

"My love and adoration?" Vi suggested, despite the fact Steph already had that.

No one would ever understaaaaaaaaand.

"Sounds like a totally fair trade," Steph decided. "I'm a big fan of having that."

Snuggle Human used to, but then Food Human had betrayed her.

"And I'm a big fan of giving it to you." Ahem.

The nerve of Food Human, making Snuggle Human happy.

Steph snorted. "You have such a one track mind sometimes."

She sounded like she loved that about Vi for some weird reason.

Only Saffron was allowed to do that!

"I mean I also like getting it from you, so that's at least two tracks." Logic!

Food Human might not have to actively try to do it, but that just meant she was encroaching on Saffron's territory by merely existing.

"Or a single two-way track," Steph countered."Your logic is bizarro logic and has no right to be that adorable."

The worst betrayal of all.

"Thanks, I think," Vi said dryly, raising her eyebrow.
