Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

Steven was pleased to see there wasn't too much work waiting for him when he got to the Museum that day. The usual amounts of mail sorting and updating records, but nothing too bad for him having had a day off last week.

He supposed that was a benefit of working in a Museum on a small island like this. Also a benefit of having an understanding boss who didn't yell when you needed a day off, or showed up a bit late, or forgot what day it was entirely.

As such, Steven was not only in his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk as he got his work done, but he was absent mindedly humming a song to himself as he did. Good moods did that to a person.

Arriving at lunchtime with, well, lunch, Watts had been about to offer his usual greeting when he heard Steven humming as he worked away. That made him smile bemusedly instead of saying anything, waiting to see how long it would take for Steven to notice he was there.

Not too long since part of the job was being ready to help out any visitors who arrived, whether or not they were your beau. Though only Steven's beau got a bigger smile for having interrupted him as well as a, "Hello, you."

“Hello, you,” Watts replied, bemused fondness morphing into delight. “Are you ready to take a break? Or perhaps I ought to return a little later?” he asked, clearly teasing with the second question.

"Don't you dare," Steven told him. He put out the sign that said he was taking lunch, then pointed to it. "See that? Lunchtime. You can't leave now. You've brought lunch."

“Not serious,” Watts informed him, dangling his hat from a corner of the sign.

A quick glance around the lobby and he was offering his arm for Steven to take.

Steven took the offered arm. "Even so I'm taking no chances. Lunch with you is far too important."

It was sacred, in fact.

Watts flushed with pleasure at Steven’s declaration about the importance of lunch together.

“I am glad to hear it, as it is a sentiment I share.”

"So is seeing you even if food's not involved," Steven added, just so that was clear. "You're the important bit. Everything else is extra."

Did Watts preen a little at being referred to as important? Maybe.

“And that holds true even after a week of that being a near-constant?” It certainly did for him.

"Very much so," Steven said. "If anything, only proves how much I like spending time with you."

And how sad it would be to not have Llewellyn around as much.

Watts beamed at him, gently bumping their shoulders together as they walked.

Steven beamed back, glad that Llewellyn felt comfortable enough for a shoulder bump. "So how's your day been? Mine's greatly improved."

They were already arm-in-arm, what was a little shoulder bump compared to that?

Now that they'd approached their usual spot, he was still going to wait until Steven sat before taking his own seat though.

"A strange coincidence, as mine rather recently went from unremarkable to remarkable indeed."

As far as Steven was concerned every bit of progress counted as something to be proud of, even if some steps weren't as difficult as others.

Steven took his usual seat. He smiled at Llewellyn to let him know a joke was coming. "The food's that good then, is it?"

Watts sat- not quite as close as he did when they were alone together, but a little closer than he'd been tending to lately.

"Hilarious," he shook his head. "Although I do hope it doesn't disappoint. It is the company I am here for."

"Well the company is here for you," Steven told him. He would've normally followed up that sort of declaration with a kiss but he knew to let Llewellyn take the lead there even when right now it was only the two of them and the fish.

Watts certainly wanted to, and yet- he held back, instead focusing on unpacking their lunch, which consisted of chickpea mafe, yassa and slices of tapalapa, along with two glasses of bissap.

Steven took a deep breath as the food came out. "Smells amazing. Can't wait to tuck in."

"The bread is mine," Watts admitted. Because yeah, he'd felt the need to make something after a week of not having that particular outlet. "But a traditional Senegalese variety. I made it this morning." Following a shopping trip for the kinds of flour this particular bread had needed.

Steven's smile grew wider. There may have even been heart eyes. "It is? Yours?"

Watts nodded. “I do hope you like it.” New recipes were always a little nerve-wracking, after all.

Steven reached for the bread. "That gets tried first. High priority there."

"Do make sure you save some for the stew," Watts said, even as he waited to see what Steven thought of it.

Dutifully warned, Steven tore off a bite sized piece and tried it. He chewed and then smiled at the results. "It's lovely! I like the inside."

"I am pleased it has your approval," Watts said shyly.
