Fandom Island Museum, Thursday Daytime

Steven was, of course, concerned about the well being of his beau after the second night in a row of Llewellyn having poor sleep. But Llewellyn had insisted he was all right for Steven to go to work, so there Steven was at the Museum on his regular day.

Steven was there with a large cup of tea given that Llewellyn sleeping poorly had meant Steven sleeping poorly. But Steven was used to poor sleep so he wasn't much bothered by it. He just needed to keep his tea handy is all.

And perhaps not do any work which required accurate attention to detail. But otherwise fine, really!

Nell popped in as usual to say hello. She'd brought some vegan shortcake biscuits, fresh cut strawberries, and some whipped cream with her. "Good morning, Steven."

"Nell, hello!" Steven said, smiling when he saw her. "Thank you for the brownies. Had them as dessert yesterday."

[mylandmyrules]

"I don't usually put colored frosting on them," Nell said, "but I thought for the holiday it would be fun."

She smiled at him. "A holiday that none of us there actually celebrate back home, of course."

"Really?" Steven asked. "Not even you?"

"Church wasn't a big fan of the government," Nell said with a smile, "And it's not a religious day, so back home it was just another day. And we were far enough out of town that you couldn't really see or hear the fireworks mostly."

"Suppose that makes sense," Steven said. He peered at what she had with her. "Dare I hope that's something for me to share?"

"More than enough to share with anyone you want," Nell said. "Fresh strawberry shortcake. Vegan shortcakes."

She made a little face. "The whipped cream is in a can and I don't know how good vegan whipped cream will be, but you don't really need it I suppose."

"Oh that's lovely," Steven said. "Actually, come to think of it, I should take their picture while they're fresh. Hang on - "

Steven patted himself down to find the pocket he put his mobile in.

"Wait, I have to put one together," she said. "You don't make them till you're ready to eat or the biscuits get all soggy. Don't worry there are still plenty to bring home and share."

Nell opened one of the containers and pulled out one of the biscuits and set it on one of the paper bowls she'd brought. Then she opened another container and spooned strawberries onto one half of the biscuit before covering it with the other half. "Cream?" she asked.

"Excellent," Steven said. "You know how Llewellyn loves things with fruit in. And cream I say. Unless that ruins the cream for later? I wouldn't want him to miss out."

[mylandmyrules]

"No, no," Nell said. "It's a can of vegan whipped cream, so there's plenty and it will last. If I'd whipped it at home it would be a bit of a mess now."

She took the can off and decorated the top of the strawberry shortcake with the 'cream'. "There," she said, stepping back. "Now you can take a picture."

"It looks wonderful," Steven told her. He took a few photos to be sure he got a good one. "There we are. Could I take one of you as well? Picture of the chef to go with her creation?"

Nell looked a little surprised. "Well, certainly, if you'd like. I don't think anyone but Prompto has ever wanted to take my picture and that was a long long time ago."

She stood by the counter and smiled for him.

"One, two, three - " Steven counted down so she'd know exactly when he took it. He smiled at the result and turned his mobile around so she could see. "There we are. As lovely as your shortcake, you ask me. But if you don't care for it I can delete it. It's no problem."

Nell glanced at it and smiled. "I'm sure it's fine. I don't mind at all - I wouldn't ask you to delete it." It was strange looking at an image of herself, but it was for Steven, just as it had been for Prompto before, so that was fine.

"Cheers," Steven said. He put his mobile away. "It was Prompto's idea, actually. Well, I mean not you specifically. But that I should try to take more photos of things. To help me remember them."

"That's a wonderful idea!" Nell said. "I never really thought of that. I mean, I have pictures of some of my plants and tea packages for my online store, but I never thought o taking them for me to remember things by."

"I've been doing it along with keeping a journal," Steven said. "I write down things I've done, who I've seen. So today would include you coming by and your lovely shortcake - Oh! I should try that before it goes soggy, shouldn't I?"

[mylandmyrules]

"That must make it much easier for you," Nell said. "If you're uncertain of something you can check in your journal."

She smiled at him, "Yes, don't let it get all soggy."

"Right, before I forget again," Steven said. He helped himself to a forkful.

"Oh that's very nice!" he said, impressed enough he mentioned it around a mouthful of shortcake.

She smiled at him. "Nothing like fresh strawberries."

Steven swallowed so he was no longer talking with his mouth full. "They're not yours, are they? That you grew?"

[mylandmyrules]

"No, not these. But I do grow some - not enough to make much of this, but the leaves are very good in teas," Nell said. "So occasionally I have my very own fresh ones. Back home I had several strawberry beds, but not here. Maybe next year I'll have more."

"That reminds me," Steven said, "I need to pop by your place and restock. I'm running low on mint."

"I'll make sure to set some aside for you," Nell said. "I'm always there Tuesdays, but you can come by anytime."
