In theory, summer was coming to an end. Starbucks had apparently decided it had, anyway, and while Raiden normally loved him a PSL, in reality, it was still definitely summer out there, so some summery pizzas were clearly indicated!

"Howzit, Raiden!" Steve said, ambling in with a grin and a wave.

"Steve! Hey, buddy!" Raiden exclaimed. "How's it goin', man?"

"Well, I'm not an otter any more, so things are definitely looking up," Steve said with a laugh. "Tell me about the cherry feta pizza. It sounds awesome."

"If you were an otter, I'd expect you to go more for the crab," Raiden mused. "It's otter-ly delicious."

Too much pun?

"Oh, the cherry feta pizza is great! The sweet ripe cherries, the salty bite of the feta...plus there's a balsamic glaze I drizzle on top."

"That sounds awesome. I'll take some for lunch," he said with a grin. "I worked up an appetite running the island earlier."

"Yeah, exercise is great for that," Raiden agreed. "Well...that and keeping me from being perfectly round." Which would have been the inevitable conclusion if Raiden's appetite for exercise wasn't as big as all the others.

"Very true," Steve said with a laugh. "How have you been?"

As a general rule, Travis didn't eat a whole lot of pizza. Not unless someone else had happened to order it, anyway. He wasn't anti-pizza, he just didn't tend to think of it first when he wanted something to eat.

But he was for some reason he was craving some today, so he decided to swing by while he was out walking Probie.

". . . No one on this island can ever just have normal specials, can they."

Sorry, Raiden, Travis mostly ended up going out to Caritas when Summer was doing jello shots. So "weird specials" were stuck in his head.

"Huh?" Raiden asked. "What's wrong with them?"

Travis had obviously missed the smörgåstårtepizza if he thought these were weird.

Yes. Yes he had.

"Cherries and cheese?" he said, pointing to the board. "What lunatic thought of that?"

Ew, Travis. Way to be ablist.

"The salty bite of the feta perfectly offsets the sweetness of the cherries," Raiden said defensively. "Lots of dishes put fruit and cheese together. Oh, no. Are you one of those picky eaters?" He'd heard about those.

"I'll eat day-old grocery store sushi. For breakfast."

So that was a 'no' on the picky eater thing.

"I . . . guess I can see your point. It kinda sounds like pineapple pizza or something, though."

He was, apparently, one of those "no pineapples on pizza" people unlike his mun who loves that shit.

"Don't...don't do that," Raiden counseled him. You seemed human, Travis, and human digestive systems were not meant to be tested so.

"But what's wrong with pineapple on pizza? It's not my favorite, but I'll eat it. Live your truth, eat what you like. YOLO, if they still say that."

"I have no idea if they say that. I wasn't one of the people saying that when I knew they were saying that." Travis shrugged. "It's just . . . not where pineapple goes. Pineapple is for fruit salads and cocktails. And sweet and sour dishes."

"And sweet and salty dishes," Raiden said. "You know, like a praline bacon thing. Ooh. Praline bacon pizza. I'm doing that." Thanks, Travis, for giving him the idea!

"Aren't those, like. Pecans?" Travis asked. He was from the wrong side of the country for praline. "I don't know about my pizza crunching."

Really, Travis. Open your mind! What would your mother say?

"Not a thin crust guy, huh?

"You know, you don't have to order the specials. They're just for fun. Switch things up a little bit." Granted, sometimes they were because he'd gotten a delivery of cricket flour instead of wheat, but great news: that wasn't the case today!

Travis was very glad to hear it.

"I know, it's just. . . ." Travis trailed off with a sigh. "No. You know what? I'll be adventurous today. I'll try a slice of the cherry and feta." A beat. "A small slice. Please."

"Sure thing!" Raiden agreed. He could just eat the rest of the pizza himself, although, "Uh, are you sure that's all you want?" That was an awfully small amount of pizza.

"For now. If it's good, I'll order more of it. If not . . . I'll get something else I know I like."

"That's fair," Raiden agreed, and went back to the kitchen. Travis might have heard Raiden asking, "Do I look like I know what 'small' looks like?" through the door before he returned with a piece of pizza one of the kitchen staff had cut for him, because, well, like he knew what small looked like. "Here you go. One...small...piece of pizza." It was so sad and alone.

It was indeed small! Travis appreciated that.

"You sound like you're disappointed in me," he said, amused, as he accepted the piece.
