It was almost Raiden's favorite day of the year, and he could be found at Pizza Planet today alternately writing out a T-Day game plan by the minute for what went in and came out of the oven when and on the phone with Alastair, who had taken the task of doing the Thanksgiving grocery shopping to Raiden's standards upon himself.

"No, we need the fresh cranberries and the stuff that comes out of a can can-shaped. Gray and Daman like that kind...well that's because Daman wouldn't admit he likes anything under torture, but trust me on this one."

"You look prepared for the holiday," Rey said when she came in.

"Well, I'm trying," Raiden said, rubbing at the back of his neck. "It's tough planning it from out of town, but we're basically only gonna be there a day and a half. I'm a little worried about the turkey getting thawed in time," he confided, "but I have a few tricks for that up my sleeve."

"Of course you do," she said with a smile. "Summer and I have been talking about doing a Friendsgiving kind of thing here. I'd imagine out of town would be harder."

"Oh, yeah?" Raiden asked, visibly perking up. "When were you thinking about doing it?" Please don't say while he'd be in California, Rey. How could he deep fry you a turkey if he was in California?

"Next Saturday. We figured people would have plans on the day," she said. "Are you free?"

"Oh, yeah! I'll be back in town on Friday! I can help cook." 'Help.' "I can probably do a lot of it ahead of time before we leave...let me think..." Stop him, Rey, this is gonna get out of hand quickly.

Or, y'know, don't, because what's Thanksgiving without six kinds of pie?

"What are your feelings about deep-fried turkey? Done a proper distance from a structure, of course." Raiden wasn't about burning down anyone's house.

Better Raiden than Rey. Her food was perfectly serviceable but this girl who grew up on synthetic bread needed a few lessons in spices.

"I've never had it," she said slowly. "Are you sure that's not too much on top of what you're already doing?"

"Nah, are you kidding me? Thanksgiving's my favorite day of the year! The only way it could be better is getting to do it twice. Plus, this way Smalls has to cool his jets on Christmas just a little longer." Sorry, Gray. The waiting would build character or something.

"Definitely one thing at a time there," she said. "Thanks for this. I've been sort of fumbling through on a lot of it."

"I'm happy to help out however I can! This is going to be amazing. Our family rule is that Christmas can't start until Thanksgiving is over," he explained, "but Gray's pushed the envelope up to vibrating out of his skin until dessert's over and then it's time to put up the tree right that minute. Even though it's still Thursday." Raiden might not have a mean bone in his body, but he was still a big brother. He was so going to enjoy this.

"Maybe we can give him a tiny tree?" she suggested.

"You're an only child, aren't you?" Raiden could tell. "Nah, the suffering will be good for him. Patience is a virtue, y'know."

Technically speaking, who knew how many other Palpatine spawn were out there!

"I'm telling him I tried," she said.

"He'll appreciate that." If he was awake. "So, what else have you never tried? Or should we just have a little bit of everything to cover all our bases?" 'Little bit,' ha. As if.

"I've never a really done Thanksgiving," Rey admitted. "Though Master Skywalker has brought back maybe every pie for me."

Not even close, despite alllllthe pies!

"I'll say I've never understood the difference between all the different potatoes."

Raiden gasped. "Then you need to be educated! Potatoes are amazing! You can do so many different things with them!" You could even put them on pizza, although probably not on the Thanksgiving table. "I'm glad you haven't been deprived of pie, though. Pie is so important." So important.
