The Perk, Thursday Morning

The Santa hats were back, which meant that Anakin had removed at least ten only to have them return to the top of his head.

Oh, how he loathed them.

He took himself into town to sulk his way through the indignity with the help of a gigantic peppermint mocha, only to realize that the Perk's musical holiday selections also included Silent Night on the accordion. He was going to need a much bigger cup of coffee for today.

Jon had taken his hat off once this morning just to verify it was that day, and then he'd just let it alone and tried to ignore it.

Now he was trying to ignore it with a peppermint tea in hand.

Anakin waved. "Nice hat," he said dryly.

Jon huffed in rueful laughter. "I suppose at least it's warm. Hardly seems fair to those that don't celebrate Christmas, though."

"It squashes my hair, too," Anakin said because that was the massive problem.

[intheeyeofthebeholding]

"That...er. Yes, of course." Jon was not nearly so dedicated to his hair routine as Anakin.

"I'm sure it will be gone by tomorrow, though."

There were supermodels who probably weren't as insane about their hair routine as Anakin.

"I really hope it's not eggnog showers."

Two hair disasters in a row, Jon! Two!

"Oh, lord no." Jon grimaced. That was just...sticky. "Although I should thank you for the reminder to check the faucets before stepping in the shower this month. The hats are relatively harmless, put against that."

"Oh, definitely do that," Anakin said, nodding. "Sometimes it's wine, sometimes it's hot chocolate, but it's never just water."

"I suppose there are worse things it could be, but I do wish the island would skip that day. And the pushy mistletoe."

Anakin laughed. "That one was more fun when I was a teenager."

"Rea...erm. That is, I would have thought it was worse. But I suppose I wasn't a typical teenager." Jon shrugged. "I didn't realise you'd grown up here. That must have been an experience."

"Well, I could blame the plant for making me kiss the girl I wanted to kiss anyway," Anakin said. "Very convenient. Now it's less charming because she's my wife and we've been married for more than a decade." He grinned. "I graduated here, went home for a while and then returned. I've known Stark and Jaye since we were all students together."

Jon frowned. "I don't think I've met Jaye, apart from hearing her on radio. I didn't realise Stark had been here that long, either. People seem to like staying here."

Not that he didn't, but he was coming from an apocalypse, and he assumed most people weren't.

"People come and go," Anakin said with a smile. "I've just been here forever and remember them all."

"How...erm. I'm curious how long you have been here, then," Jon said.

[sith_happened]

"Twenty years," Anakin said, making a little face. "It doesn't feel that long."

[intheeyeofthebeholding]

"That probably means it's been good," Jon noted. "Or I suppose the island could be doing odd things again."

"Well, the first time I left, I was gone for years and came back to learn that it had only been a very short period of time here."

"That seems to happen to quite a few people," Jon noted. He frowned. "I'm supposing you don't count those intervening years as time spent here."

Anakin shook his head. "No, in those years I was married for the first time, had two children and fought in a war."

"That seems..." Jon frowned. "Well, busy."

"I came back to Fandom for the slower pace," Anakin said, only half-joking.
