Town fundraiser!

There had been rumors all weekend of people from the Big City coming in and buying up local businesses to turn them into soulless malls and parking lots, and Hannibal could not have that! He loved this quirky small town where love was constantly in the air.

So he had opened up his ~~psychiatry office~~ banquet hall and gone full-out on the catering and set up a party to fundraise for all the businesses under threat. There were totally tasteful and non-gaudy red and pink decorations, hearts (of the valentine, not the anatomical) variety throughout, and somehow the air itself was glittering in a way that wouldn't actually show up on anyone's clothes or in their sinuses.

There were moddable foods and tables and chairs all over! There was a dance floor where only slow dances ever played! Anyone not from the Big City (or who was from there and wanted to find new purpose in a small town and switch sides) was welcome!

Show up and be dreamy!

Steve's entire wardrobe had turned into cozy sweaters, flannel shirts, and jeans, so he was wearing a cozy sweater over a flannel shirt and jeans.

He was definitely not looking for the city slicker from the B&B yesterday. That would be sad.

Arden was only a Cupid-in-training, so while she showed up in a pretty pink dress, it wasn't particularly showy or eye-catching. It wasn't her job to steal the spotlight from the happy couples.

This would, of course, change if she found love or if they were able to squeeze in an extra couple of minutes at the end to celebrate her getting her wings or whatever, but honestly, her plotline was pretty secondary to the romance plots.

Because she was a free-spirit, Navaan showed up in a blue dress instead of a pink or similarly feminine color. It was also a little revealing, but that was okay, because there had been a whole montage of her finding it her aunt/grandmother/third cousin twice removed vintage shop and you couldn't be mad at vintage.

So now she was here and hiding a broken heart behind a bright smile that showed she was quirky and still true to herself (when she wasn't compromising her beliefs for a man) because that was important to her story. And stuff.

And Arthur was here, mostly to shop around the song he had written while inspired by the agony of actually having feelings for Navaan. While avoiding Navaan. And pining over her from afar, because she couldn't possibly be interested in him after he'd abandoned her.

It was true, he had hurt her free-spirit grievously. But what was being a manic pixie dream girl for if not to be able to forgive a man his foibles while teaching him very important lessons about living, laughing, and loving?

Their eyes met from across the room, because of course they did.

Arthur firmed his jaw and tried to look tortured and in love but in a fetching way. He sighed and went to get a drink.

Oh, if only Jon were here to advise her instead of once again being in the stuffy library--!

Wait! Of course! She just needed to play up the whimsy and quirkiness that had caused him to both fall in love and abandon her!

She looked around for a microphone and sound system they were going to use to do whatever fundraising was supposed to happen to save the town or whatever.

Jon would advise her just to be herself, of course! It was like she could hear his voice in an audio clip laid over the scene!

There was a convenient microphone at one end of the hall that wasn't being used for anything at all.

Meanwhile, Arthur was downing his drink in a way that suggested deep pain rather than alcoholism.

See? She got the benefit of his advice without them having to pay for him to appear in the scene! Ingenious!

"Excuse me," she said, tapping on the microphone to make sure it was on. "I'm sorry to interrupt this slow dance, but I have something I need to say. Yesterday, I met this man and fell in love with him, even though it seemed he had almost no redeeming features except for how handsome and full of pain he was. But that's okay, because I'm a manic pixie dream girl and that's what my whimsy and free-spirit are for, helping men along their spiritual journeys. But then he broke my heart by abandoning me in the rain, so of course I spent a long montage scene learning about music because he's a composer. I'm not super sure what I learned, because it was just 'music,' maybe to appreciate it on a deeper level or something, but since I have, could you all join me in convincing Arthur - because that's his name, Arthur - into singing his song so I can be very moved by it, but on a really spiritual level because I understand music better now?"

Hannibal, whose only purpose was to be the rich-but-philanthropic local who supported everyone, clapped. "Show us the song, Arthur!"

Arthur looked awkward and tortured. "I'm not sure it's ready. I'm not sure I'm ready."

"You just have to listen to your heart," Navaan encouraged. "And the movie's runtime."

Arthur came closer to the makeshift stage, which had a piano on it now. He touched the keys lightly, then seemed to come to a decision. "If I play," he asked dramatically, "will you dance?"

"I thought you didn't like my dancing," said Navaan, her eyes filled with tears.

"I couldn't let myself enjoy your dancing," Arthur said painfully. "I cave too easily to pressure from family and society. But now I understand that true happiness can only come from pinning all my romantic hopes on someone that I've only just met and would otherwise be completely incompatible with."

Navaan gasped. "Do you truly mean it?" she asked. "Then yes, I'll dance. I'll dance every day, at the least appropriate times, just to remind you of what you said."

"I look forward to a lifetime of being embarrassed by you," Arthur said fondly as he sat down to play.

And Navaan danced. It was a very weird, Wednesday-Addams-esque dance, because she was a free spirit who danced as she liked, with no regard for rhythm.

Which was okay! Because Arthur's music could only charitably be called "marketable", since they'd had to write a new song rather than get the rights to one. Besides, this made it more authentic! And quirky!

When the...tune, sure...drew to a close, Navaan went over to the piano. "Does this mean we're living our happily ever after now?"

"Unless they decide to make a movie later on where our kids get us back together, I think so!" Arthur answered.

"Well then let's grab a horse-drawn carriage which will be just outside for some reason, even though they haven't been in any other scene, and go...I don't know. Back to your place or something?"

"Definitely!" Arthur stood up as the phantom orchestra that had accompanied his song died down, and took her hands. "But it will be our place now, forever more. We won't even have to have a wedding scene, but it will definitely be implied, because we can't just live in sin."

"But right now, while the cameras are rolling, should we share a completely chemistryless kiss?"

"Definitely."

Belle was, of course, thinking of her lost love and the possibility he might have been shipwrecked.

This fundraiser was the perfect place to distract her for a while. Or, perhaps, to allow her time to brood. It all depended on the scene.

Dance and find love!

Throw a drink at someone who's offended you! Feed each other finger foods!

Brood!

~~Anakin~~ Nick never got to have any lines, so he was shoved into a dark corner to admire people with plots and chuckle heartily at forgettable dialogue.

He was going to be so pissed tomorrow.

"Grandpappy!" Rey called, walking over in her expensive-looking business suit. "There you are!"

"Rey!" Nick called out--yes, heartily--and reached out to give her a hug. "When did you get in from the Big City?"

"This morning," she said, hugging him back stiffly because she had yet to relearn feelings. "Mom told me you needed caring for."

"Well, you know that at 55 years old, I'm almost ready to be sent to a home," Nick said sadly. "I definitely can't keep up with the artisanal scarf shop."

"That's why I'm here," she said. "I did have good memories growing up in that shop."

"You were always very talented," Nick agreed, "but then you went into business instead of knitting."

What a weird choice to make, Rey.

"We all have to live our lives, Grandpappy," Rey said seriously. "I only hope you can accept mine."

"I'm doing my best," Nick assured her.

"All right. Would you like a blanket for your legs?"

Being as he was elderly.

So, so elderly. "Did you make it yourself?" Nick asked.

"I don't do that anymore," Rey said, looking down. "Sometimes I miss it."

Maybe if she picked up a knitting needle, she could remember feelings!

"You can always go back," Nick said, "and do something you loved."
