Tino was giving Jane exaggerated shocked and confused looks about her coming into the bar to set up for the evening. Because he was Tino and not at all for any other reason. Really

"Okay, okay. So maybe I've been busy," she sighed, hauling one of the kegs that he'd been ignoring down to where it needed to go.


Sometimes it just went that way.

"How long have you been here?" Sabine asked. "Long enough to get away with it without people asking if you're new?"

"Oh, definitely long enough for that," she admitted. "Sometimes I'm just bad at being around, I think."

For plot reasons. Sure.

"Then good job on getting out," Sabine said. "Very proud."

[needsacatchphrase]

"Why, thank you." Look at Jane being social and such. Look at her.

"Doing anything interesting while you've been being a recluse?" Sabine asked.

"Mostly being spending time off island, uh, kicking ass?" Oh yeah, really making your super hero thing seem plausible, Jane.

"Girlbossing, or literally?" she checked.

That's right, she knew what girlbossing was.

[needsacatchphrase]

"Literally usually," Jane replied, "The girlbossing is more... me without the whole muscles and like."

With science.

Sabine raised an eyebrow. "Without the muscles?"

[needsacatchphrase]

"I'm normally shorter and less..." Well, you know. "Magic hammer. It's kind of a thing."

That made perfect sense!

"Okay I'm going to need more detail on this," Sabine decided.

[needsacatchphrase]

"Magic hammer doesn't do it?" Jane asked, laughing as she set Mjolnir down on the bar top with a thunk that implied it would not be moving come hell or high water.

Sabine frowned at it, because 'magic hammer' was a little... new for someone science-minded.

"Can I see it?" she asked, in case she could get a closer look, which would not go the way she thought.

If it helped, so was Jane. Most of the time.

"Feel free!"

Sabine, maybe figuring that she could do anything even if that thing sounded like it was not budging, reached to pick it up.

And then repositioned herself to try it again.

Sure, keep trying, that'll work out.

Jane grinned wider. "Magic," she said, this time with a huff that implied she wasn't too fond of the lack of explanation either.

"Whosoever holds this hammer, if they be worthy, shall possess the power of Thor."

It was a very good if dry and unimpressed impression of Odin.

Just one more thing she wasn't worthy of, apparently.

"Like the mythology?"

Sabine, like a true cool nerd, had done a looot of reading on what she could find from this world.

[needsacatchphrase]

"Yeah," Jane replied. "But also real. Asgard being another planet or plane of existence."

She hadn't gotten to plot that one out before it was destroyed. Also, she disappeared for 5 years around that time.

"Makes as much sense as anything," Sabine decided. "Definitely more than a magic hammer."

Was it wrong to be a little mad at a hammer?

But it was so adorable! Look at lil' mew mew.

"I had all my thesis work screwed up by it," Jane said. "And had to go with all new theories on wormholes instead."

"Your thesis was on wormholes?"

See now she was torn. Because... magical insulting weapon, but also smart woman who knew about wormholes (who also had those arms, let's be real).

[needsacatchphrase]

"And I was proven right," Jane said proudly. "It's completely feasible, it's just the details now."

And power.

"I want all the details on this," Sabine told her.

Jane positively beamed, grabbing a cocktail napkin and a pen to start writing out the math on it and pointing out each part with far, far too much enthusiasm. It felt like it had been ages since she'd done a lecture on the subject after all.

And Sabine listened intently, adding some of her own perspective, because while she might not be into astrophysics, she absolutely had questions on the math parts.

"I love that you know all this," she said.
