Turtle & Canary; Monday [04/15].

Cass and Bixby would be sticking with Summer today at the store while she took care of things; it seemed marginally safer to just have them poking at the shelves of T&C than it would be to have them poking around a bunch of medical equipment and people's personal medical histories. She was a little nervous that Apu might have gotten in octuplets back, but, since she hadn't received any panicked texts from him over the weekend, she figured they were in the clear. And, sure enough, coming in confirmed as much, as there were not eight little tiny Nahasapeemapedalons running around.

Just Apu being an absolute fucking weeb today, apparently.

She was, admittedly, a little disappointed to not see a little tiny panda cub running around the cheese section, because, um, adorable? But the kids seemed to find something to keep themselves occupied while she worked (Bixby mostly wanted to play with the turtle; Cass decided it was time to play A Million Questions about Cheese with the cheese panda), so Summer wasn't worried about not getting her crap done of the day, at least.

Atton was a coward, who continued to be a coward, and was now cowardly sitting back at home not having any of the conversations he had planned to have with anyone in that particular neck of the multiverse. And then there was this part of the multiverse, where he could also continue to be, if not a coward, at least dodge-ily inclined, and... sigh.

Maybe if he touched on that last one, he'd feel less guilty about the rest of it.

He stared at his phone for a good long while before texting, so just getting this out here before Wednesday because awkward interpersonal face to face bullshit blah blah, but should we talk about last week? Because I know I'd dodge the whole issue if I could get away with it, and I THINK you probably would too, but if we need to clear the air I'm

Up for it? No.

happy to do that. And if we don't, just hit me with a thumbs up on this message and I'll delete it and neither of us has to think about it again.

There.

Oh thank the Force.

Atton rubbed idly at his scruff with the palm of his hand.

I'm good. Like I said I kind of knew. Didn't want to embarrass you or make things awkward so I just spared us both the 'I'm twice your age and emotionally unavailable' talk.

He looked up at the ceiling for a second. Probably should add to that, huh.

I've needed a friendship like this back in my life so yeah if we're both good on not fucking that up I'm

What? What. A word. Okay, he knew the word, he just felt pathetic typing it.

grateful

There.

He almost kneejerk added a 'or whatever' but, maturely, managed to restrain himself just in time.

yeah absolutely zero worries about screwing this up with all of that, Atton typed. He almost wanted to point out that he had a history of ignoring people's crushes until they either went away (Sparkle) or blew up (Sia), but that felt maybe one bridge too far.

A few seconds later, he found himself halfway into mentally composing something about his current home predicament, because that was the point, wasn't it, Summer was just so easy to talk to in a way all of his other Fandom friends weren't because she understood being a messy bitch and he didn't feel like he was talking to some lofty porcelaine god(dess) who had it all together. Except then he thought about uncles, and the idiot in the other room messing around with a guitar, and honestly bringing that up would be a level of shitty Summer didn't deserve, so...

Ugh.

so anyway how badly do you want to rant about whatever brats you have right now.

Much safer. Okay, it brought the risk of him eventually feeling the need to bag on Stark, but he was much more comfortable taking that one than anything else.

i got snipped after one of these a few years ago.

There, have some TMI in return for that 'Casserole' factoid.

seems to have done the trick. though Lana's knew me in the future and called me 'uncle' and frankly, that's karking weird enough.

Oh, huh, look at that. He'd identified some kind of self-restraint in the Stark department. Good job, Rand. Maybe you'd accumulate some maturity sometime, somehow. I hate kids.

look if I'm ever getting ambushed by a kid again I don't want to know and did you just say 'eat your exhusband's heart'

This needed clarification, Summer.

Atton did appreciate how quickly they'd rolled right past that! That was the way he liked things!

He eyed his phone for a moment, and realized - resigned - that he had heard much crazier things in his life, and not just on this island.

I guess the rules on cannibalism would be lax under those circumstances.

you know I want to point out that's kind of psychotic and I'm concerned now, Atton texted, but as someone who served in the mandalorian wars and the jedi civil war I'm honestly not sure how many legs I have to stand on.

Well, he'd definitely never known anyone who'd eaten someone's heart before, but he had been very close with someone who'd inverted the mass shadow of an entire planet with up to hundreds of thousands of people on it, and he wasn't really sure how those ethics stacked up against Summer's hypothetical heart-eating future.

I'm sure Mical would have something about respecting people's traditions or something

I don't? I guess?

He didn't!

He just, uh. Could admit now that Mical was better at diplomacy than he was.

this is not encouragement to eat mical's heart, though it would be funny
