So Kitty was staying phased as hell because Tino was taking it seriously. Not a fan. She was not a fan.

"Why's the other bartender eyeing you like that?" Remy asked without preamble.

Kitty could of course more than handle herself. But Remy was still giving Tino the stink-eye about it anyway.

"It's National Hug Your Cat Day and Tino thinks he's funny."

He was not, of course.

Remy blinked at her for a moment, then looked at Tino. "Homme. No."

As though that would work to discourage the man.

"Suppose it's good that the cat he's trying to hug can go intangible, hmm?"

"Who knows what I'd catch if I couldn't," she quipped. "What can I get you?"

“A whiskey, merci. Other than dodging hugs, how’re things?”

"Boring," she said, getting to work. "Which is not necessarily a bad thing. What about you?"

“Same. Picked up some work at the junk shop,” sorry not sorry Harley, “otherwise . . . I am enjoying a nice break between people trying to kill me.”

"Don't say it too loud, Fandom might take it as a challenge," she warned, setting his drink down in front of him.

Remy started to laugh, then stopped. “Does it really do that?”

"Wouldn't be the first time it's happened," Kitty said. "It also tends to happen during the times of year everyone starts expecting something to go horribly wrong but I don't know which is the cause and which is the effect now."

“How many times of year we talking about?”

[throughaphase]

"It varies. Three or four times a year?" she said. "They kind of blend together after a while."

“Sounds like how often the old mansion used to blow up.”

[throughaphase]

"Yes, but usually fewer explosions."

Usually.

“Usually,” Remy echoed. “Well. Suppose I can at least change that.”

Since, you know, he made things explode.

"You should have fun with the next invasion." If the next thing was an invasion. Sometimes they were more inner turmoil-based.

. . . Yeah, Remy was full up on inner turmoil, thanks.

“Don’t tell me: the Brood like to show up here?”

"They showed up once, and only once," she said, and added, "Thank god. We get things like evil Christmas decorations, murder clowns and capitalism."

“Not really sire you can call that last one an invasion, mon amie.”

"You weren't there," she said simply.

Remy tilted his head, then nodded. “Fair.”

He had seen the X-Babies. He knew there were things in the multiverse he could not otherwise imagine.
