Groovy Tunes; Thursday [12/05].

It was the first Thursday of the month, and, according to the grand schemes of previous months' Stewart, that meant it was time for another Open Mic Night at Groovy Tunes. He had almost thought about canceling, though; he'd been in sort of a funk this week and had only oh so handwavily somewhat unenthusiastically went around putting up flyers earlier this week to remind everyone, in case they forgot or just didn't care. Because he knew that if he did cancel this month, out of apathy or ennui or just general holiday blues, then it would be difficult to get himself to get it started again next month, and then the whole thing would fizzle before it even really got off the ground.

And people actually had shown up last month.

And if people didn't show up this month, he could just tell himself it was because everyone was busy with holiday bullshit.

So there really was no reason not to hold it this month, and so he was there at the shop getting it ready and dealing with customers in the day before setting things up on the stage for the performances that evening.

Groovy Tunes is open!

Come on in and buy some music, instruments, or whatever else they actually pretend to be peddling here at this store during normal business hours!

You know, Dante used to work here. And play here. Sometimes he did feel a vague hit of nostalgia.

So here was, slipping into the store with his hands in the pockets of his red leather coat as he looked around.

"Man, this place just does not like change."

Stewart's head popped up from behind a nearby shelf, to look at the actual person who had actually come into the shop and squint at him a little.

"In a cultural landscape," he stated, "of a staggering depletion of the existence of physical media, this place is a veritable shrine to the increasingly obsolete and antiquated. Change would be antithetical to its entire business model."

Show up and hang out before and after the performances! Psyche yourself up to go up there yourself or peer pressure your friends! Or, if you don't have any friends, just sort of sulk and brood, like Stewart is wont to do!

When Dante was done, he collapsed back against a comfortable-looking shelf and eyed the stage.

Graham had come to terms with the fact that he was probably not much of a music performing type, but he still definitely was a huuuuge music enjoying type! So he was definitely there again this month, to cheer on his friends and see what groovy tunes were brought to the stage this time!

Despite any claims that the narrative was clearly unfounded in making, Stewart did have friends, thank you. They were all just, you know, in a different country.

But it had been right about the sulking and brooding...when he wasn't on the stage or making sure everything else was going smoothly, anyway.

Belle was once again not going to perform, though she did keep humming bits of the cat songs from the morning's movie in spite of herself.

But she was there to see what others were up to.

Hopefully with far fewer cats than earlier in class, too!

Summer had debated whether or not to bother coming to Stewart's little open mic thing again, or whatever, but, well, she was here, wasn't she?

Just because she didn't want to have to deal with her giving her those pathetic kicked puppy pouting faces in class on Friday! Not because she would, like, feel bad or something if she just skipped it, okay???

Graham was definitely squinting at that very familiar looking sloth in Arden's company.

"....Gray?" he guessed.

It could be Kamala! But Graham didn't really know Kamala, and he felt like he definitely knew this sloth.

Lol, 'peer pressure'.

Dante strode back into the store in the evening, his coat swishing behind him. He grabbed a guitar from the stand and, in a fluid motion, walked-then-hopped-onto-the stage. "Yo, I'm Dante," he called. "Class of somethin'- oh, fuck if I know. Anyway, this is by a chick called Elena Huston."

And proceeded to shred.

Charlie was feeling perhaps a little contemplative today. Or maybe her player was just on a Sting kick after watching The Voice.. In any case she started out with his Message in a Bottle, drifted into Fields of Gold, and ended with a beautiful rendition of Fragile.

Was Graham cheering the loudest for Charlie after her set was done? It may have been hard to tell, but he was definitely putting in the effort to claim the title, that was for sure!

Considering the recent news, Stewart felt it was his duty to ensure that his remix set this month paid a bit of a tribute to some MCR, starting, of course, with Welcome to the Black Parade, and, thinking he was hilarious, he merged that into a mix on Uma Thurman, which naturally had to bleed straight into You Never Can Tell. And Teenagers was the obvious choice to follow that one, and while he was on that thread, he took it into Seventeen, and into Shampain, finishing up, naturally, with Dead! and I'm Not Okay.

Belle didn't know this music. But she did enjoy Stewart's sense of showmanship was clapping appreciatively at the end all the same.
