Over Easy, Sunday Morning

Okay, well, they had gotten through an entire week without the restaurant burning down, going broke, or being swept out to sea by the merciless arm of a kraken. And their laundry delivery had finally come in, meaning everyone had clean kitchen towels and uniforms to work with. Raiden was feeling pretty good about this.

"We have enough potatoes, right? And eggs? 'When will I stop asking?' I don't know, we're always going to need enough potatoes and eggs."

Steven and Llewellyn who would ping themselves in had heard the news of a new brunch spot with excitement. That it was Raiden's of course meant it would be excellent. Now that they were back no the island they wasted no time in checking it out.

Well, other than sleeping in on a Sunday morning to an hour that was far more reasonable. But luckily such an hour was perfect for brunch!

"Doesn't this look nice?" Steven said as he, indeed, looked around the inside.

"Nice indeed," Watts said. "As I am sure the food will be. Brunch. What an ingenious idea," Watts replied.

"Don't have to get up early for brunch," Steven said. After an exhausted Saturday thanks to the drill and needing to leave early regardless, sleeping in today had been a huge advantage.

"Does that mean we've been having brunch all along, you and I?" Watts wondered. "When we have a lie-in before getting something to eat?"

"A form of it, yeah," Steven said. He gestured around them. "Not like this though. This is - more of an event? People can queue up for hours for a good brunch in some places."

"How intriguing," Watts noted. "Well, no doubt the bar will be set fairly high for other brunch experiences following today."

"Hey, guys!" Raiden greeted them. "Welcome to Over Easy! Have a seat anywhere, and a NPC server will be right with you!" Wait. Vegans. Right. "The plant-based items on the menu are marked with a little leaf, and the vegetarian ones are marked with a 'v.'" There was also a key on the menu, but he liked to be clear. "And we might be able to modify things; just ask. Obviously the already baked things like the cinnamon rolls are, uh, going to contain dairy." He wasn't going to apologize for that. Cream cheese icing was proof that God wasn't all bad.

"Raiden, hello!" Steven said with a cheery wave. "Congratulations on your new venture! This looks amazing!"

"Oh, thank you!" Raiden said. "So far, so good, right? How are you guys doing? Recovered from that drill thing the other night?" He'd missed it, but he'd heard all the complaints from Gray.

So many complaints.

"It's a wonderful idea," Steven said. "Brilliant thing to do with a Sunday. And now, yes. Yesterday was completely knackered. Think we've caught up on our sleep but I suspect we'll be enjoying your coffee all the same.

"And you?" Steven asked. "This is in addition to your pizza place, yeah? Not getting rid of that?"

"Why would I get rid of the Pizza Planet?" Raiden asked, confused. It was pizza, Steven. Pizza.

"Hello, Raiden," Watts greeted. Where was his hat going? Nowhere hats were intended to, anyway. Possibly on a display case for bakery items if such a thing existed. "Looking forward to giving this a try."

"Hey there, Detective Watts," Raiden greeted him. "Is that where you really want to leave your hat?"

Look, this had been bound to happen eventually.

"Er," Watts blinked, and then looked over at his hat. "Would you prefer it elsewhere?"

It would end up somewhere equally ridiculous, for the record.

Raiden's hat was pretty much surgically attached to his head unless he was in the shower or something, so he could not relate, but, "I mean, it's up to you, man. Maybe you could keep it with you at your table? I can't be held responsible if anything happens to unattended property." It felt important to get these disclaimers out there when they were talking about the sheriff's property in particular. "What if a gremlin takes off with it?"

Stark gave a little wave in Steven's direction as he walked in.

"Morning, Steven."

Steven waved back. "Stark, hello! How are you today?"

"I'm fine," Stark said. "Thought I would have another brunch this week."

Brunch improved all things, right?

[hasaknightjob]

"This place is wonderful, isn't it?" Steven said. "No surprise, coming from Raiden. Always know food's in good hands with him. Nice to have a place to pop in on a Sunday as well."

"I go to the bakery on Sundays, sometimes," Stark said. "Always a good choice. But it's good to have more options and Raiden always makes good food. Always filling and tasty."

Maybe Sunday brunch could be a new routine? Or maybe it just sounded really good today. One of those things. In any case, Stark was walking in to the restaurant ready to eat.

[carbsliftthespirit]

"Stark! How's it goin', man?"

[stykera]

"Going all right," Stark said. "And you? I didn't see you for the drill. For the kraken that wasn't there."

[carbsliftthespirit]

"Gray told me about that. I was in Baltimore. You know. Making sure there aren't any demon problems." As you did.

He'd say he was sorry he'd missed it but he was not.

[stykera]

"Were there any?" Stark asked curiously.

Raiden was correct to not be sorry he'd missed out. It was just too bad he hadn't been there to look imposing and half-naked and raise some spirits.
