Caritas - Open [6/27]

Veronica was still running on nerves and caffeine when she got to work. She was grateful to see Tino was back from wherever he'd been, though he snorted at her when she asked if he'd had a nice vacation.

Aaron hadn't appeared to her again since Anakin chased him off. She was hoping that was a good sign, even though Piper hadn't been able to help her.

Joxer stripped off his helmet and started pulling off his armor.

"He's normally not happy unless I'm unhappy," Joxer said. "Which means I have him beat. Cause there's no way I can be unhappy with you around."

"Guess I'm just gonna have to be around a lot then," Kaylee said, still concerned.

Joxer was now sitting in Caritas completely naked to the waist, trying to rub the beer off his back with a towel grabbed from Tino.

"I'd like that," Joxer said.

Dead Joxer, on the other hand, was wishing he could just smack himself. But he couldn't.

"I wish there was something more I could do," Kaylee said, frowning.

Joxer rubbed the back of his neck. "You know what? I'm thinking we need to kiss, just because it'll make him unhappy." Joxer said.

"Well, and I'd kinda like it."

Kaylee grinned. "I think that can be arranged."

Joxer leaned forward and shut his eyes. "I promise to keep my hands to myself."

Kaylee also leaned forward and kissed him. "Think the ghost is gone now?"

Joxer looked around, and didn't see Dead Joxer around. That is, until the bucket of ice ended up in his lap, and the bucket placed over his head.

"Shame on you," Dead Joxer said. "You play rough, I play rough."

Kaylee frowned. "You're sure this ghost is you? Because he's not very nice, like you are."

Joxer knows exactly how he can get, if he's being stubborn about something. He knows it's him, so he just nods and takes the bucket off his head.

"He thinks he knows what's best for me," Joxer said. "Which just means he's not looking through the same eyes I am, cause he wants me to have a future without you, and even though we're not even really officially going steady or anything, I don't want that."

He gulped and shot a glance towards Dead Joxer. Dead Joxer, on the other hand, was sort of standing there, agape.

Kaylee smiled. "I don't want that either."

Joxer grabbed his armor and shoved it under his arm. He plopped his helmet on his head and short another glance at Dead Joxer.

"I think I have him confused. If we run quickly, maybe we can lose him."

Kaylee nodded. "I'm ready if you are."

Joxer went to take hold of Kaylee's hand with his free arm and make a mad dash for the door.
