The Fourth Sin, Tuesday Night

Jarod, had done a little bit of research into Halloween and had spent the day preparing for the holiday. He set out a very large bowl of chocolate, as well as little bottles of massage oil, feathers and little containers of body paint. Anything else that was offered to trick or treaters was strictly a business deal between the trick or treater and the offerer.

Jaye stares at him. "You can't tell me that unless you're serious."

Jarod grinned, then got the phone and handed it to Jaye. "Just don't tell them where you got the number. Our number is blocked on all caller ID systems."

Jaye's almost gleeful when she takes the phone to call the number back. As soon as they pick up, though, she decides she doesn't really have anything to say.

So instead she greets them with, "What are you wearing?..." There's a long pause, and then a frown from Jaye. "Really... Are there pants to those?" Now there's a headtilt. "...Oh, no reason, I was just wondering... No, I don't want to see your pistol..." And then her jaw drops and she hangs up really quickly.

"You're right. Weird."

"So what was he wearing? And did he have pants on?" Hey, Jarod was just as curious as everyone else, but he decided he probably didn't want to know about the pistol. "Do I want to know what made you hang up?"

"According to him, assless chaps, and no. To both of those last questions," she says. "I'm going to pretend he's just some old globby guy sitting in front of his TV with no time on his hands and oh my god, now the mental image is worse."

"Assless..." Jarod blinked, handed over the bowl of chocolate, and tried to ignore the mental image he got of Raines in those chaps. "I need brain bleach."

"Think of pretty, think of pretty..." Hey, wonder how Obi-wan's doing... "Okay, yay."

"Help?" He looked at her hopefully.

"Um. I don't think mine will help," she says. "Bikini babes?" Yes, that is Jaye trying to help.

And now Jarod was imagining Parker in a bikini, glaring at him. "Um, thanks. I think."

She offers him an Almond Joy and says, "Penance?"

He took it and looked the wrapper over. "I didn't realize almonds were particularly joyful."

"Oh, yeah. They've got a rep for it," Jaye says seriously.

"I'd feel guilty eating something happy," he said, setting the candy bar aside.

For some reason, Jaye is now determined to get him to eat the Almond Joy. "It's only happy if you eat it," she says.

"Did it tell you that?" Jarod asked, looking skeptically at the bar.

"Nope. It's just one of those things everyone's supposed to know." She nods. Very convincing.

"Is there a list of these things somewhere? Because I never seem to know them, and it gets frustrating after a while."

"If there is, it's probably hidden in a museum somewhere," she says thoughtfully. "But that's why there are people like me. So we can tell you about those things."

He grinned and opened the Almond Joy. "So your purpose in life is to enlighten the masses on societal norms?"

"My real purpose in life is to live in a van down by the river," she lies. "The enlightening part is just a hobby."

"What color van and which river?" He asked. "I might want to buy you a vanwarming gift and need to know where to drop it off."

"Haven't decided yet. I just like the way it sounds. I'll let you know, though. I like presents."

"How do you feel about plants?"

"I thank them muchly for their oxygen production," she says. "Why, are you planning my birthday early?"
