A.J. double checked the sign. Yup, this was the place. And, coming in and taking a look around, he was a little too distracted by something else to really notice Charlie floating around CDs. It was so weird! As soon as he stepped foot in this place, it felt....but it looked entirely different! ...Weird....

"A.J.! Hi!" Charlie waved from the counter, smiling as she put away another CD. "How's it going? Are you here for music?"

A.J. did a little turn on his heel to redirect himself....yup, the counter was where he was thinking it would be. So weird...His index fingers were pointed toward her, and he took a moment thinking about this a second before heading over. "Charlie, hey! And no, actually, I'm here to see you. You said I should stop by, remember?"

"Cool!" Charlie grinned and hoisted herself up on her hands, then cocked her head. "What were you pointing at when you came in? And how's the musical going so far?"

"Good," A.J. nodded. "Should have a cast list out....soonish. And I was pointing at....It's weird. This place looks entirely different, but it feels a lot like the record store I used to work at. Has the same vibe, or spirit, or whatever, y'know?" A.J. shook his head. "So weird."

"You used to work at a record store too?" Charlie came around the edge of the counter, picking up a somersaulting Mopsy on the way. "Tell me they didn't have cats, too. Miss Valentine loves them." She grinned, holding up Mopsy, who yawned. "There's not much else to see here. Yitzhak lives upstairs, there's more booths over there," she waved to the soundbooths. "Oh, hey, I brought my notebook along today, though. Want to see?"

"No cats," A.J. admitted with a chuckle and wave a finger-waggling wave to one of them that seemed minutely interested in him for the flash of a second. More interested in his baggy sleeves than anything else, probably. "But soundbooths, definitely had those." He looked up. "So that's where the boss lives," he muttered, mostly to himself, and then moved on closer to the counter. "And I'll love to see."

"Awesome. I just finished a big part of a plot with kidnappings and aliens and mutants," Charlie said, setting Mopsy down on the counter to purr and groom herself while Charlie rummaged in her bag for her ever-present notebook. "So, if I can just find where it starts..."

She pulled out the book, and flipped to the first page, with Bobbi going diving off the cliff while being chased by the Fire Guy-- Michael-- and the Nightmarish Forest Dude, and handed it over. "I really need to edit it, but, I'm pretty happy with how it turned out overall. How's your artwork going?"

"Good," A.J. said, lightly, as he leaned over for a better look at Charlie's notebook. "Haven't had as much time as I'd like, though, for it..." A smile surfaced as he read along. "This is really good, Charlie."

"What else have you been up to?" Charlie asked guilelessly, then grinned. "Aside from the musical. And yeah? The guy who fishes Bobbi out of the surf if based on Yitzhak, actually. Silent and mysterious. And cool." She bounced on her toes. "The Nomadic Chef story is on the pages after that one."

"Yitzhak, huh?" A.J. grinned, already starting to get some sketches in his head as he flipped a page. "Nomadic Chef?" His eyebrow quirked. Sure, he could just read, but, as an artsy person himself, he always liked hearing people talk about their ideas, too.

"Have you met Ronan?" Charlie snickered a little. "He was fixing food for people a lot early in the semester. And Turtle and I weren't sure what floor he was on. So, Nomadic Celtic Chef. Feeder of people, fighter of evil! Griselda's based on--" she coughed, suddenly, embarrassed. "Uh. Someone else. But she's not really that bad, I was just annoyed at her when I wrote that part about being buried alive in the desert."

A.J. held in a laugh, eyes widening. "Note to self," he muttered as he turned his eyes toward the notebook, "don't annoy Charlie. Ever."

"It's better than yelling at people," Charlie protested, still smiling. "And, anyway. You have to have a good villain, right?" She cocked her head. "You're working at Luke's now? Are their milkshakes as good as Rikku says?"

A.J. looked over at Charlie with a grin. "Well, now, you'll just have to come in one day and find out, won't you? Can't just take my word for it. I'm an artist; we can't be trusted."

"Shading the truth in favor of beauty over accuracy?" Charlie offered, then grinned. "Okay, then I have to stop by. So, you think it's a good story? You could really illustrate it? I know that graphic novels need lots of action... I can probably put in more explosions on the spacecraft carrier."

"Would definitely not be opposed to more explosions," A.J. said, "but, yes, it's good. Really good. I think it will be insanely fun to do..."

"Cool!" Charlie said gleefully. "Next to seeing someone make a movie of one of my stories, this would be *awesome*. Although I should start trying to figure out a script for the Zombie Movie from Hell, too. Do you want me to Xerox the pages, so you can work on it when you've got time?"

"That would be great, Charlie," A.J. beamed a little. "Thanks! Also? Script? Zombie Movie from Hell?" He paused, his head nodding. "Niiiiice."

"I'm trusting you here, even if artists always lie," Charlie said, grinning a little. "Dean and I keep saying we have to film one here, that'll be better than other zombie movies. You know, more accurate. Scarier. It's just all jumbled ideas right now, except there'll be scenes in Caritas and Turtle & Canary for sure." She widened her eyes. "Want to help when it becomes a real thing?"

"Of course I do," A.J. chuckled a little, shaking his head that Charlie would ever think that he wouldn't. "I might be able to put together some really good zombie make up for you, even, if I start practicing now..."

"Oh, perfect. Hey, have you seen the zombies in Caritas? Rikku says the ones in her world are green and glow more, but otherwise, I think they're a good place to start." Charlie bounced on her toes. "I think I love summer vacation here. Workshops that are fun, but enough time to do other stuff, you know?"

"There is a lot to do," A.J. admitted. "I don't work as much as I used to, but there's enough else to fill up the time that I hardly feel like I've had much of a chance to paint as much as I'd like."

"You paint, too?" Charlie looked intrigued. "I'd like to see those. Oils, or watercolors, or...?"

Laughing at himself, A.J. rolled his eyes a little. "Everything. There's nothing I can't...or at least won't try to use as a medium."

"Awesome. Now I'm *really* looking forward to seeing what you so with my story." Charlie grinned, and bit her lip, thinking and studying A.J. Her conversation with Johnny of the day before came back to her, and impulsively, she said, "So, um. Maybe we could go out for ice cream? When you've got some drawings done?"

"Yeah?" A.J. grinned a little. "That could be fun; you'll have to promise not to get any ice cream on my sketches, though."

Yes! "Any more than you'd get it on my notebook," Charlie promised, delighted. "So, cool. It's a date." Just in case, well, that wasn't clear. Or maybe she didn't want to be that definite... "When you're ready."

"I'll have to get working on those sketches pretty soon, then," A.J. grinned. "Pretty clever, bribing me into productivity with ice cream."

"Well, you know writers. Always plotting," she joked. "Plus, it gives me an excuse too, doesn't it?"

"You writers," A.J. grinned and waggled a finger at her. "So sneaky."

Charlie was feeling pretty proud of herself on the guts and sneakiness scales, actually. Whew. She tried to look innocent, with little success. "Collaborators should make sure they keep their strength up?" she tried, opening her eyes wide.

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," A.J. chuckled. "I better get to work on those sketches, then. Maybe I'll pick something up before I leave. Oooh, a soundtrack to our collaboration to help inspire even more?"

"Ooo! Super idea!" Charlie grabbed the Rat Man Returns soundtrack, some Foo Fighters, a little AC/DC for the parts where they blew up the ship, and some Springsteen as well. "Do you like any of these? I listened to some of them when I was writing this."

"I actually know some of these!" A.J. commented with a light laugh. He bit his lip a moment as he looked at some of them, and he reached back to fish his wallet out of his back pocket. "Wonder how much I could spend...."

"Ohhh, right." Charlie turned red. "Okay, I should push these at you like there's no tomorrow, but you shouldn't go broke, um... maybe you can download some of them from iTunes? Without having to buy the whole CD?"

Charlie's not going to get Employee of the Month, and Turtle would have a fit.

"...iTunes? And, I, uh, kind of don't have a computer...um....I have some AC/DC, so that's cool. Maybe, uh...the soundtrack would be a good place to start, yeah?"

"Cool," Charlie said in relief, ringing up the CD. "Oh, iTunes? Well, you can use the school computers, if you want to. They let you buy, like, individual songs for about a dollar, online. So if you only like the one song that some band covers, you don't have to get the whole crappy album." She put the soundtrack in a Groovy Tunes bag and handed it over, beaming at him. And restraining herself from doing a happy dance.

"Thanks, Charlie," A.J. matched her smile. "Sounds kind of cool." Although, then, he'd have to try figuring out all those changes in the Internet since his time, catch up and stuff. Not easy; maybe Troy could help.... "I'll talk to you soon, yeah? And we'll plan our ice cream date?"

He bit his lip slightly. Date date? Or just, like, doing stuff date? He didn't even think about it until just now...

"That works!" Charlie grinned at him. "And I'll drop off those copies as soon as I get a chance, so we can get ice cream as soon as possible."

Yay!

"Sounds good; see ya, Charlie." And, with that, A.J. left with a kind of shy smile and a wave.

Although, they'll pounce if you try to play Keepaway. Fair warning.
