The Park [after sunset]

Anakin was in a fantastic mood this evening.

This had absolutely nothing to do with alum who may or may not be arriving tomorrow.

He was out in the park with a ball and hyperactive, flying vampire puppy.

You might have to look twice. Anakin Skywalker was actually laughing.

Creepy.

Isabel was not out thinking. Nope, not at all. She was just enjoying the evening. Even though it would have been much nicer if it actually felt like Fall.

She stopped when she heard the laughter, and blinked.

Now that was you definitely didn't see every day, and she wasn't talking about the flying puppy.

"Vladdie, bring the ball back," Anakin was calling. "Vladdie? Vladdie!"

He finally saw the other person in the park. "Oh. Hello."

"Anakin," Isabel said, holding out a hand to Vladdie. "How are you?"

Vladdie was halfway to Isabel when he spotted something Very Exciting in the grass.

It was a bug. Sigh.

"Fine," Anakin said, shooting the puppy an amused look.

"I'm crushed. I lose to a bug," she laughed. "Maybe I need to sprout the alien antennae after all."

"Rory's coming down tomorrow?"

Vladdie rolled onto his back, batting something only he could see.

Anakin chuckled. "Yes, she comes to town sometime in the late morning, I think," he said. "And Aeryn and John and Jaye will all be in town, too."

Brilliant diversion, Skywalker.

As far as diversions went, it didn't. But Isabel just smiled, glad to see him happy. "It'll be good to see them all. It's weird without them around."

"I'd say quiet, but that's not true," Anakin said, "but different."

"Not a bad different. Just different," she agreed.

"So I've had some news." Isabel was pretty sure her news wouldn't trigger a lecture. Hopefully.

"What kind of news?" Anakin asked, tossing the ball.

Vladdie went zipping after it.

"Good news for a change," Isabel said simply. "Max and Michael are back in Roswell. The whole save the planet thing is over and done with."

"They're all right?" Anakin asked, skipping to the important part first. "All of their limbs still attached?"

"Physically yeah. The usual I've been living in a war zone bumps and bruises but nothing some TLC by their girlfriends won't cure." Which was a thought that alternately made her want to roll her eyes at the sheer schmoopiness that was Max and Liz or hug them for being so devoted to one another. "Mentally? Well, you know how that goes. It's going to take some time."

Rose was still wandering around in the park and once again, a wolf. She wasn't a moment ago, now she was again. Then Wolf-Rose spotted the flying puppy, she approached it and saw Anakin.

Wolf-Rose nudged Anakin's leg.

Vladdie yelped and hid in Anakin's robe.

Anakin stared down. "...hello?"

She growled a friendly 'hello', at least she hoped it looked friendly and grinned. Unfortunately it meant she was baring really sharp and scary fangs.

"Vladdie, down," Anakin said as the puppy tried to climb up Anakin's hair. "She's not a real wolf."

He smiled. "Fandom weirdness, right?"

Wolf-Rose nodded and tried to roll her eyes, apparently that's harder said than done when one was lupine. Instead she nodded to the puppies direction and asked, "Is that an alien dog?"

Or what actually came out was: "IYANADGWHOOO?"

"This is Vladdie," he told the wolf. "He used to be my friend Rory's, but vampire puppies don't do so well at Yale, do they, pal?"

He ruffled the back of the puppy's neck.

Vampire puppies! That was fascinating! Rose's tail swished to one side. Wolf-Rose approached the puppy and was about to give it a head nudge when--

*pop*

Rose found herself forehead to forehead with the puppy. "Well, this is awkward."

Vladdie flew backwards and hovered off the ground, yipping.

What a great trick! Do it again! Again!

Anakin chuckled. "Hello."

Rose got up, red as a tomato, "Hello." She looked at the hovering puppy, "Sorry 'bout that."

Anakin waved it off. "Not your doing. Vladdie, this is Rose."

"Hello, Vladdie," Rose said, "aren't you a cute little fellow?"

Vladdie totally agreed. He went over to see if New Friend, Yay! would pet him.

"He keeps me busy," Anakin admitted.
