Caritas, Wednesday Night

Faith made sure to show up bright and early for her shift, since she'd been late last week. Freaking New Year's.

So the school had new kids. Should be interesting. Good thing they didn't card. She'd never been one to deny teenagers their booze.

Caritas. Open. And all that jazz.

(OOC: I'm here, but I might be hit-and-miss, so if speed's your thing, mod Tino.)

"Duuuuuude," Melody said sympathetically. "I hope somebody caught her. Did you have to walk home?"

"I was more concerned with getting the car back. My boss was ex-CIA. I was worried what he'd do to me if something happened to the car," said Mike. "My buddy and I caught her. Turns out she was working for some chop shop. They had already started taking the car apart, but when they realized who my boss was, they put it back together and gave it back."

"You must have had some boss," Melody said lightly. "I love stories with happy endings."

"He was this really tough, scary guy. You really had to watch out if you crossed him," said Mike. "But he was great to work with. He got me out of working valet and into working in the casino's surveillance department. If he was still around, I'd probably still have a job there."

"But if you were still there, you couldn't be here," Melody pronounced. "Unless you can be in two places at the same time, and I can't, can you?"

"Nope," said Mike, smiling again. "Besides, I had other reasons for leaving. If you stay in Las Vegas for too long, you get burned out. Teaching computers to high school kids is a whole new challenge for me."

He sipped his beer before continuing. "So, Melody, what are you doing in a town like this. You said you were a drummer?"

"Uh-huh," Melody nodded. "The singer in my band decided to make a solo record and she is spending about 500 years on it, plus I needed a break, and our manager knew a manager in New York who had a client who was trying to unload a record store. I figured it would be an investment." The last sentence fit a little awkwardly in her mouth. "So I've been here since May."

"Aw, man, it's always tough when you have a singer who decides to go solo for a while," said Mike. "But on the plus side, now you're bringing some sweet tunes to the people of Fandom."

"Yeah, that rocks," Mel said. "The shop's redecorated and most cool. You should stop in sometime."

"I will make sure I do that," promised Mike.
