The Park, 10am Saturday-early afternoon

Yesterday's weather had worried Willow, but according to the weather report Saturday was warmer and so far snow-free.

Willow got to the Park early so she could set up. She cleared a space for dancing, set up music and some food that she'd brought along, then waited for others to show up.

[ooc: OCD a-coming Up! All are welcome. 'tis very informal in nature. And this only takes up a small part of the Park, so plenty of room for others to do Parky things without being crowded.]

Glitch saw him and gave a little wave for him to come over.

Then, as another synapse fired off a reminder, he went to look for something in the box he'd brought with him.

He trotted the rest of the way, looking a little worried but glad to see him. Glad to see Glitch.

Ah, there it was! Glitch pulled out a leather-bound book and offered it to Liir.

"It's a book of Ozian history. There are maps in there, too." He gave a small, reassuring smile, because he didn't want the boy to run off again. Synapses took note of the worried look. "I thought you might be interested in it."

"Oh."

He reached out, as careful as if he was to touch a snowflake, and ran a finger along the cover.

"Thank you," but he didn't take the book yet.

"I'm sorry."

"Sorry?"

Glitch let his synapses fire and pop as they looked for anything Liir had done to be sorry for. They didn't find anything, which wasn't exactly unusual.

"For what?"

"I shouldn't have--"

He breathed in, closed his eyes, and went on. With his eyes closed.

"I shouldn't have presumed," he said, "t-to touch you. To, well, you know. I shouldn't have. And you don't have any responsibility towards me, even if we are from the same place. A-and I don't have any right to a-act as if you do."

And he cursed himself blue, silently of course, because he hated when he got so nervous that his stutter started up again.

Glitch's synapses crackled in recognition. Liir was afraid of getting reprimanded for a hug. He shook his head, and kept the book out towards him.

"You're right. I don't have to," he paused for effect, "but I will anyway. And you don't have to feel guilty for it, either."

That hit him like a shot to the jaw, a shake rocking through him from head to toe. Green green eyes opened almost as wide as they could go before shutting again as a huff of breath zoomed out of him.

"Oh," he finally managed. He sounded nearly drunk.

There was a moment where all the synapses, at once, fired away in worry at the boy's response. Then Glitch put a hand on Liir's shoulder to steady him and nudged him lightly in the chest with the book.

"Is everything alright now?"

He nodded.

Then the book was snatched and he leaned over, practically fell over at Glitch and wrapped his arms around tightly, holding on like a drowning man as something almost seemed to hit him in the chest and the throat at once.

Glitch blinked at the suddenness of the hug, and his synapses were all questions and concern. What happened to him?

He paused, for a second, as his arm went around the boy and patted him reassuringly on the back. "I sent for something else for you, too. But it probably won't arrive until next week. I thought you'd like some Ozian things, to help adjust." Glitch hoped quietly that the thought was right.

It probably wouldn't matter much to Liir, if he'd heard, but he didn't really hear. He was using all his focus to stay there, to stay together, and not run off screaming because he was a looney.

But he nodded, mostly because he'd heard something, and whatever Glitch said was fine because it was Glitch.

Glitch stayed there, quiet. In a moment of clarity, his synapses reasoned that pulling back right now wouldn't do any good. Whatever had happened was something Liir was trying to move away from, and if that meant a clinging hug, then that's what would happen.

He took another moment, just one more, soaking up the warmth and the smell and the feel of another human being, of their affection and concern and thereness, before he pulled back.

He cleared his throat and attempted to look in any way like a sane, mature human being who hadn't just had a fit of emotional upheaval.

He swallowed an apology, since he wasn't supposed to feel guilty, before turning to pull the book up and look at it.

"Thank you," he said again. And it wasn't just for the book.

Glitch smiled and nodded. "You're welcome."

There was still that strange, worried curiosity in the back of his mind, but he let it go. This wasn't the time to ask questions like that.

"There's food over there," he motioned to the tables, "if you're hungry. And I'll be going to teach the dancing in a few minutes if you want to learn."

"I do," he said. "That's why I came. To talk to you and to learn dancing."

Facts were very helpful in awkward times. Good to say them out loud so that there wasn't empty silence.

He had a brief desire to give Glitch another quick hug but squashed it cleanly before nodding dutifully to him.

"And I'm sure whatever Ozian things you got, I'll find them very interesting."

He tapped the cover. "This included."

"Well, there's Papay fruit over by the food. And an Ozian Crystal Music Performer, for the dancing."

Then he gestured towards where the dancing would be. "Dancing which is over there, for when you're ready to start."

Re: Gather! Mingle!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never heard of Papay fruit," he admitted. "But the music sounds similar. Sounds, well, sort of as if I've heard it."

Though he hadn't.

"I'll be over in a minute."

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I guess there weren't Papay in your time, then." He nodded to himself, considering it.

Synapses flashed and popped. There were other things to consider right now that had nothing to do with the Papay.

"I'll be there," Glitch said, smiling, as he started to make his way over.

He smiled at Glitch and let him go as he went for some food.
