The Park, 10am Saturday-early afternoon

Yesterday's weather had worried Willow, but according to the weather report Saturday was warmer and so far snow-free.

Willow got to the Park early so she could set up. She cleared a space for dancing, set up music and some food that she'd brought along, then waited for others to show up.

[ooc: OCD a-coming Up! All are welcome. 'tis very informal in nature. And this only takes up a small part of the Park, so plenty of room for others to do Parky things without being crowded.]

He smiled a shook his head. "Just checking."

Taking a step forward, he took Liir's right hand and moved his left to just under his arm and on his shoulder. "As a warning, this is where the hands are supposed to go. I've already given one person permission to kick if they start to wander." There was a mockingly serious look to punctuate the statement.

Liir quirked at him, rather confused as to what Glitch might be talking about but he ended up nodding.

"All right."

Glitch started to count, setting the tempo, and gave a nod when he took the first step.

He started with the basics first, before moving into the turn.

Liir stumbled, but shook it off.

"Again?"

He realized what he'd done and he could fix it. It was the other person throwing him off, attempting to keep track of the other person's movements and body parts.

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Glitch nodded. "Of course."

He started again, with the same tempo.

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
He got it this time, moving more smoothly now that he'd gotten a hang of how Glitch moved and he looked at the other Ozian to give a broad smile at having learned something.

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Glitch smiled back. Some synapses were firing that it was unusual for someone to get it that right that quickly, but the rest were more focused on the dancing.

"Very good. Do you want to try without counting?"

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Can I keep counting inside my head?" he asked. Because he didn't want to foul it up by doing it wrong."

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "If helps you, there's no reason why you shouldn't."

Glitch started again, without counting.

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-12 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And Liir counted in his head.

"Do you want to try something more complex?"

Glitch figured that if Liir was quick at learning, he should probably teach him a little extra.

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
He considered.

This had been simple, and as such he didn't look like a fool. But something more complex might make him look like a fool in front of Professor Ambrose... which wasn't something he wanted.

But Professor Ambrose, Glitch, didn't seem to mind when he acted like a fool.

So.

"All right."

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Glitch began to show him a more advanced step (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JRE3AXm1NgE&feature=related). "This usually leads into a changing of partners, where there are enough people on the floor."

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh," he said as they moved in the step.

"Okay. I like the music."

He figured Glitch should know.

"What's the thing you're using to play it? It looks different than the one Dean was using the other day."

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
"It's a C.M.P. Crystalline Music Projector." He paused as they did the step again.

"Like a T.D.E.S.P.H.T.L., only it just projects sound instead of images."

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 02:59 am (UTC)(link)
"T.D.E.S.P.H.T.L.?"

...yes, he did remember all the letters.

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
"Tri-Dimensional Energy Stored Projected Holographic Time Loop."

Glitch thought for a moment before explaining further. "It records images and then, uhm, projects them. Then it doesn't stop projecting them until the loop is disrupted."

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 03:13 am (UTC)(link)
He couldn't think of any practical use for such a thing other than to drive someone insane, but didn't say as such. It wouldn't add anything to the conversation and she'd always said that if he didn't have something useful to say--

Well, in this case, he liked Glitch so he'd actually keep it to himself instead of doing his best to irritate.

"One of your inventions?" he said instead.

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
Glitch nodded. "It was meant to record events."

There might have been a slight stress on the word meant, but he wasn't quick to elaborate on what it was used for. The idea of it still stung, and as his synapses mulled it over, he might have faltered in his steps. Just a bit.

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Liir didn't say anything. But the falter made him think.

"Do you have the Grimmerie?" he asked, the thought bubbling up from somewhere. The idea of Glitch making new things, making things he'd never heard of, made him think of Elphaba and her work... though the fact that Glitch was telling him about the work immediately ranked him above the Witch.

"When you are? Has anyone ever found it?"

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] a-no-brainer.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
There were a few moments of quiet, synapses popping and firing away, at the mention of the Grimmerie.

"No," he said finally. "Not that they haven't looked for it, but it was never found."

Then they went back to firing, misfiring. "I think."

Re: Dance!

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-01-13 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Liir nodded, but it was a distracted sort of nod. He was listening to the music, his feet and hands and spine moving as they'd been taught this very evening. His mind seemed almost gone as he listened, as if all the space that was usually filled with thoughts and considerations and worries was filled with lines and lines of music and he could see it, Hear it, feel it slip down his neck and down his back and into his belly to fill him up as no amount of cookies could.

Something flashed behind his eyes, a different time, a different place, what was no more and would never be again but he couldn't catch it, couldn't grasp it. Bittersweet and beautiful, eternal and ephemeral.

If he was questioned later on, he wouldn't say he'd done anything. But if anyone was to question him right this moment, he'd say that he was wishing he could give something as wonderful to Glitch as Glitch had given to him.

He blinked, and stopped mid-step. Synapses stopped misfiring, popping, crackling, rattling, and just worked.

Memories came back, steady and clear. No missing pieces or faded edges to them. Having Ahamo teach him to dance in the stables when he was still just an inventor at the palace. Taking to it quickly, then staying there afterwards to practice and falling asleep on a pile of hay.

Azkadellia and DG, before the Cave Witch, taking turns standing on his feet as they pretended to dance in the courtyard. The two of them running around after each other and informing him that there was a Royal Decree that he make them the most fascinating toys in the whole Outer Zone.

The first ball he attended as Royal Adviser, dancing only once with a woman from Central City who talked endlessly about a cat she had dyed pink to match her favorite dress. Standing, after that, against the wall with no other offers.

He blinked again as it all settled in, like the snow settled all over the island the day before.

It was as if there were images from a Tri-Dimensional Energy Stored Projected Holographic Time Loop at the corner of his eye... but he was unwilling to look at them.

Then he noticed that Glitch had stopped and he stepped back, trying to figure out what he'd done wrong or fiddled up or even just if he'd stepped on Glitch's toes.

"Professor Ambrose?"

Had he fouled things up again?

Glitch was smiling, broadly, and stood very still. As if moving would dislodge them and have them fall right out of his ears. He wouldn't have that happen any time soon, so he was still.

"Yes?"

Except, of course, for the slight raise of his eyebrows at the question.
